Or is behaviour at all inclusive hotels hilarious?

So in the last 2 months, I've been to Dubai, Cyprus and Jamaica, and now I'm in Greece, and 3/4 of those have been all inclusive hotels.

I've got to admit, and I'm as guilty as any, but it's so weird just observing behaviour at all inclusive hotels!

Getting up and starting to drink cheap and sugary cocktails straight away!

Piling 3 plates full at the buffets.

Getting up for 6.30am to nab a subbed before they all run out.

There are probably so many more but I'm just sat at breakfast, after going to get a second full breakfast (though I've had a gastric bypass so it is all relative) and it's made me chuckle.

I'd love to read any other weird behaviours typical of all inclusive holidays!

This is LIGHT HEARTED for those who soon enough will tell me I'm judgemental haha.

I’ve never been AI and was thinking of booking a holiday soon with AI soon - I may have to rethink 😂

I do like the idea of having 2/3 plates of food.
I’m not sure my waistline would though!

Would you say it works out cheaper than self catered?
Do you always put on a lot of weight?

Siameasy · 27/08/2022 08:06

We went to a nice one (4*) but yes I did meet a Queen Bee who name dropped the staff (the staff are like celebrities).
My first time AI and am converted. And who goes AI for the culture, come on! Just enjoy it for what it is

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:08

@Sellorkeep you've clearly not actually read anything... I've literally said several times I do the same... for example I had a couple plates for breakfast, I joined in with sun bed situation in Cyprus!

gogohmm · 27/08/2022 08:12

I've personally not observed this but I have stayed in nice places mostly. All the hotels I've stayed at have had a sun bed policy for starters and they removed blocking towels after an hour. Last trip was a cruise, the amount people could eat was ridiculous but portions were tiny individually (you could have as many courses as you wanted)

Harridan1981 · 27/08/2022 07:58

I’m sure they’re equally judgemental of your carbon footprint ✈️

🙄I don't think they'd be privvy to where she's travelled , you carry on @inaminute23 I love a good people watch
My favorite -also in Jamaica, people loading their plate so full it was slopping , why? You could go back a dozen times if you wanted
I also love the loud boasty conversations they want you to hear , it's fascinating

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:15

@Siameasy exactly! We chose AI for the proximity to the beach, good for kids, nice pool and sun! That's it. I base them type of travel I do on a) what I want from it and b) who I'm going with.

I can't cope with people who are 'above' AI, or at lest they think they are!

The whole point of this thread was I find human behaviour weird and some of it is exacerbated by free flowing alcohol, unlimited round the clock food and people who want the sun all day... that's it, nothing more nothing less!

Bit of course I'm now getting comments about my carbon footprint and how judgemental I am haha. Honestly, nobody can win on here!

Oh yes haha this place is the definition of a luxury hotel, very well known for being super fancy haha

Honestly, I would have my doubts about that. I’ve been to AI in most of the destinations you’ve listed (been to other places in the Caribbean but but Jamaica) and I’ve never experienced the behaviour you’re describing. I’ve always noticed everyone being respectful, generous with tips and never rushing for the pool (usually because there are enough sun beds and pools around the resort that no one needs to be selfish). So I honestly suspect it’s not as luxury as you think.

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:17

@SunnyD44 honestly go for it, AI is good... you know what you're gonna spend and you go there and know what you're getting. I've always enjoyed AI holidays, I also enjoyed backpacking round Europe and a road trip across the states and staying in local accommodation in Indonesia... it's just a different type of trip!

(Hang on, I'll get stick for my carbon footprint again now haha)

The entertainment around the pool always makes me cringe. Come do aqua aerobics to 90/00s dance music blasting so loud people have to shout at each other while getting another beer 😂

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:19

@Glitteratitar I can assure you, it is. It's one of 'those places' where people who stay here pay through the nose for the 'name'...

Like I said, i'm here with work.

The sun beds aren't the issue here (as I've stayed with a policy) and the alcohol isn't as it's a very family friendly resort but the guy and the apriocots... well who am I to comment eh.

I love AI especially now I have discovered the luxury adults only ones. I went to one recently that only had 50 rooms. Gorgeous pool with plenty of sunbeds, the big double bed types with canopys. It was heaven!

losingit31 · 27/08/2022 08:21

If you want adults only AI, try Asimina Suites in Paphos - bliss, and no sunbed wars!

FrancescaContini · 27/08/2022 08:21

My idea of total hell would be AI full of British people.

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:22

@crochetmonkey74 sounds lovely!! Might explore this for next year!

I was snobby about AI until I actually tried one and loved it ... but it didn't include alcohol !

It sounds like an absolute nightmare. But I am a raging snob.

You do know Hyacinth is a comedy character not a role model don't you?

This! I couldn’t think of a worse choice of holiday

WhereAreMyAirpods · 27/08/2022 08:34

We did 2 weeks AI in Menorca this summer, the hotel was a real mix of British, French, Spanish and Italian guests.

Didn't see any of this behaviour. The biggest queue in the mornings was at the coffee machine. Some guests weren't AI, we did witness an Italian family one morning forming a production line at breakfast to make sandwiches from the breakfast buffet, presumably for lunch. There were loads of sunbeds, never had to scramble for one and it was all very relaxed and chilled out.

whoruntheworldgirls · 27/08/2022 08:35

The hotel I'm at now and the one i stayed in at Easter had certain pools that didn't open until 9am/10am which gave people more options on where to sit if the others filled up. They also remove stuff if left longer than 45 minutes.
Easter hotel started serving alcohol at 10:30, here it's 11.
So far at both hotels i haven't witnessed people with plates piled high

I read everything before I posted

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 27/08/2022 08:36

I'm a snob, but last time we went on an ai I couldn't stand seeing people wearing swimwear to breakfast or lunch, bare feet in the restaurant, or men in shorts for evening meal. I hate eating at buffets anyway, so general bad maners around buffets does my head in. 🤣 Bad manners towards the hotel staff is shocking.
A friend and her small family were the only occupants once of a small hotel not in a wedding party. They literally spent the first week of their holiday being spare parts of a wedding party.

luckylavender · 27/08/2022 08:38

So many reasons why I hate AI

SurpriseSurprise · 27/08/2022 08:38

I’ve never been to an AI where the Sun bed thing didn’t happen. It’s frustrating.

This thread is almost like a stealth boast though! Four times jetting off in two months! Maybe I’m just jealous!

Iwantmyoldnameback · 27/08/2022 08:41

I love a good AI and have rarely seen any of the mentioned behavior. Just the sunbed thing and I've seen that in non AI and all British hotels too.

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:42

@SurpriseSurprise haha oh honestly I have no need to be stealthy... I do see your point though!

this is a handful of my travels this year and I am aware I'm very lucky to be able to travel as much as I am currently.
