Or is behaviour at all inclusive hotels hilarious?

So in the last 2 months, I've been to Dubai, Cyprus and Jamaica, and now I'm in Greece, and 3/4 of those have been all inclusive hotels.

I've got to admit, and I'm as guilty as any, but it's so weird just observing behaviour at all inclusive hotels!

Getting up and starting to drink cheap and sugary cocktails straight away!

Piling 3 plates full at the buffets.

Getting up for 6.30am to nab a subbed before they all run out.

There are probably so many more but I'm just sat at breakfast, after going to get a second full breakfast (though I've had a gastric bypass so it is all relative) and it's made me chuckle.

I'd love to read any other weird behaviours typical of all inclusive holidays!

This is LIGHT HEARTED for those who soon enough will tell me I'm judgemental haha.

@leccybill I’ve only been to a couple of AI hotels but there were definitely no wristbands,
tiny beakers or songs!! Can’t remember anyone smoking either. As far iPads at the table…reminds me of when DH and I were debating whether to take our DCs into the fine dining restaurant of the very upscale Beverly Hills hotel that we were staying in…we decided to go for it after discovering that they had a kids menu…we sat down and both burst out laughing as there was a toddler at the next table with an iPad! Don’t know what we were worried about!

leccybill · 28/08/2022 11:56

I've just been to a 5* in Spain that did do wristbands (but ribbon type ones) to differentiate from the half board guests.
They had a song too....
Same last year, also 5* in Greece.
Both pricey upmarket hotels!

BunsyGirl · 28/08/2022 12:23

@leccybill Presumably because they have different board options (as you said they had different bands for half board). No wrist bands at Maxx Royal or Ikos but they are 100 per cent all inclusive.

marmiteadict · 28/08/2022 17:40

@Ponoka7 the piling plates up and leaving loads of food drives me up the wall. I hate it.

I can assure you, it is. It's one of 'those places' where people who stay here pay through the nose for the 'name'...

I know you say that, but truly luxury places really don’t attract people such as apricot man. Such ill mannered people simply don’t go.

Yes, yes they do because money isn't class.

Sprockermum · 28/08/2022 17:57

In Gambia we got up early and swapped all the sunbed towels around... Then sat and watched the mayhem ensue... To be fair we were sick and tired of not being able to even get a sunbed let alone choose...it didn't change anything but made us feel better for a while 😂

Toomuchtrouble4me · 28/08/2022 17:59

I don’t do those things, I’d rather relax and I always manage to find a subbed and something to eat. Try Club Med.

Wiscowoman87 · 28/08/2022 18:07

Not an AI story, but once at a Las Vegas all-you-can-eat buffet, we saw two women stuff their beach bags FULL of steamed crab claws (think claws sticking out of the open tops of their totes!) and carry them off to wherever they were headed next... another Vegas buffet, maybe?? 😵‍💫

Vapeyvapevape · 28/08/2022 18:11

My friend and I used to like taking the children to AI when they were younger because they could go and get a drink whenever they wanted without us having to give them the money.

Rmw12 · 28/08/2022 18:17

The lounger issue is definitely not just AI. We went for an expensive spa weekend (1 night in fact as it was too expensive for 2!) in the UK recently. The few loungers by the pool always had towels on them, even with a sign next to it saying that towels shouldn’t be left on loungers when not in use. Some people are just selfish and entitled. The last holiday we went on that had this issue they started to remove towels when the loungers weren’t in use which was brilliant. If only people could be smart enough to realise that if no-one left their towels there would always be enough loungers! 🙄

xippo · 28/08/2022 18:18

we go to proper 5* AI, sun-beds are managed by the pool people, always can get a bed.
don't see people with plates piled high, unless its Americans, who pile fruit, full English and pastries on one plate.
cheap AI is always full of very fat people who go on holiday just to eat.

Jojoe29 · 28/08/2022 18:19

If you have enough money to go on so many holidays, maybe not go for ‘all inclusive’ in future.

riceuten · 28/08/2022 18:20

I've never been AI in my life, and look unlikely to. Chacun a son gout, however. I can imagine there would be circumstances where it would be a good idea. For me negotiating the mystery of foreign food, languages I don't speak, and getting lost are a plus rather than minus, though I do recognise I am in a minority.

A few people I know who've been AI got food poisoning, but this was particular destinations (the Dominican Republic, for instance) where perhaps food hygiene and rotation weren't high on staffs' mind.

DanceItOut · 28/08/2022 18:24

I wish I had enough money to go on an all inclusive holiday (or any holiday abroad actually) even once in my life let alone three in two months 😂 If I ever manage to figure out how to break into higher paying work I will have to try it.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 28/08/2022 18:30

I’ve only been twice, about to go a third time mostly for convienance of our DD, but I’ll never understand those who go and ONLY eat at the hotel, we will either go out for lunch or dinner and never stay for the “entertainment” it’s not my cup of tea. Im used to back packing, I can’t wait until our girl is a little older to head off with her!

threatmatrix · 28/08/2022 18:30

Tip the pool boy, you will have the best sun lounger for the rest of your stay.

Flatfish123 · 28/08/2022 18:31

AI holidays are my worst night mare but must provide great people watching for a day or so. An anthropologist would love it.

Movinghouseatlast · 28/08/2022 18:33

My friend and her husband always have two Irish coffees each straight after breakfast!

jewishmum · 28/08/2022 18:39

To be fair you can get a pint with your breakfast at Spoons.

Maybe they are on their only holiday for a very long time and want to make the most of it?

shiningstar2 · 28/08/2022 18:41

Dh And I only go AI when we go with DD her husband and family. With two teens who like to spend all their time around the pool and join in water polo ext it is the best option. They get up for early breakfast and hopefully get sunbeds. Everyone does what they want at lunch time. DD and her DH sometimes go in for a proper lunch. The teens eat when they feel like it around their activities DH and I sometimes go off site to walk, explore and have a snack and drink somewhere scenic with great sea view. We all eat together at night. It is annoying when there aren't enough subeds to go around though. If people are paying up front for most of their food and drinks I would think it should be obvious to the hotel that for whatever reason, toddler clubs and naps teens activities or elderly and inability to walk far, the customers intend to stay around a lot. Not rocket science. It is not a particular problem for DH and I. No sunbeds we stroll to the beach for some, but for cash strapped families who've paid up front it's no joke. It's not the price of the beds that's a problem, it's. that it means they have to pay again for all those snacks, ice creams and drinks they've already paid for back at base. If hotels are going to promote this type of holiday they should get to grips with the needs of the paying clients. If there really are not enough sun beds there

should be some kind of ticket system set up so that you know that on certain days you have a definite sunbed. Maybe every other day you definitely get one. If you haven't taken it up by say 12.00 it's free for others. That way you can get up at a civilized time some of the time and take your chances on other days. Unless you're a heavy drinker AI doesn't work out cheap. We are booked for next year and I was surprized how much cheaper other options can be. If hotels are going to take drinks/snacks/food money for an 'all day' experience they should ensure they have the beds/comfortable seating/ staff to provide the experience which has already been paid for. On the few occasions we have gone for this option it sometimes feels that Ai guests are second class citizens with staff concentrating on those who haven't yet paid as they already have my money. Some of the comments here reinforce the idea of AI being second class although most AI clients, choosing this option because they are mainly staying on site, have brought more money into the hotel coffees than those who will be spending more of their money off site.

Coffers 😁

Taking ziploc bags and stuffing them with breakfast things (granola, pastries) for later in the day. My SIL. Although I followed suit eventually 😳

I grab a few extras at breakfast for snacks in the day but it is more because I am not as well & mobile as I used to be so it saves me getting up & down to get food if I just need a quick pick me up snack.

In my experience it’s usually not that there aren’t enough. There are always loads with towels on and no-one on them for hours sometimes. If people took their towels away when not using them there would be enough. Sorry, not much bothers me but this a huge irritation of mine!

Frazzledstar1 · 28/08/2022 18:48

The sun bed thing really gives me the rage! We went to Greece earlier this year and struggled to get loungers most days. On the last day we didn’t get any at all and I sat by the pool bar and clock-watched as two loungers that had been reserved with towels, yet no sign of the towel owners by 2pm! If I was bolder I would have removed the towels but alas I am a pushover!

I've never been to a holiday with sunloungers but I'd most likely just neatly fold the towel up and set it aside if it was not being used for ages and I needed a plunger.
