Anyone else use the words ironically, but before they know it becomes a regular part of their vocab? Just me hun?

Porridgeislife · 25/08/2022 13:03

Can’t get too excited about kiddo/doggo but absolutely loathe the name of the pram brand Ickle Bubba. I silently judge anyone pushing one of these very, very hard.

StClare101 · 25/08/2022 13:04

Hun, hubby and fur baby are the ones that get me.

oh, and anyone who refers to their wife as “the missus’. Yes this happened in a work conversation the other week.

SavageTomato · 25/08/2022 13:04

Most of these are childish, I agree, not my thing. But the word kiddo sends the red mist down on me like you would not believe. I can and do ignore it if people are saying it about others, but if applied to me I would tell them to not do that again - and mean it. My mother used to use it all the time, when I was already an adult, as a way of saying, you're still my child, I can patronise you any time I want. Fucking hated it and it's stuck.

Little one & baby girl both make me heave with disgust.

Seen some photos of someone's kid starting P1 recently with a big speech about how far she's come and how incredibly proud her parents were of all her achievements then the stinger - "you got this baby girl, we are all behind you"

Fuck me man. Got what?! She's going to draw around her hand and play in sand for a few hours a day, no run in a political campaign.

See also "X smashed their first day at school today".

theworldhasgoneinsane · 25/08/2022 13:06

Hate most of these but my worst is 'holibobs' and 'famalam'

Urgh fuck offfff

justaladyLOL · 25/08/2022 13:08

I hate KINDA HEY LIKE

Spanielsarepainless · 25/08/2022 13:10

Kiddo is regional. All my Liverpudlian friends use it, but I have never heard it elsewhere. But, yes, so much crap, juvenile talk about.

I don't think it's regional. I've heard it loads in the midlands.

rainbowmilk · 25/08/2022 13:11

Little man! Awful. Imagine calling your infant daughter little woman. You just wouldn’t.

I hate anything that’s like buba, babba, bubz etc. I had a friend who used to write me Christmas cards as if she was her baby (“fank yew for da prezzie I wuvs it” etc) and I used to think I should call a dr out to her or something.

Entire agree with all the “you got this, we’re all cheering you on!!” updates on starting preschool or whatever. I also loathe graduations featuring four or five year olds - just seems utterly silly to me.

Little man makes me vom, especially if preceded with sexy . WTAF, who describes a baby/toddler/child as sexy 😡

Newbestmate · 25/08/2022 13:11

The fb statuses “hot date with my little man!” with pic of mum and baby or toddler in a cafe. Should be a criminal offence..

MissyB1 · 25/08/2022 13:15

This thread has cheered me up - had a horrible morning!
Keep them coming kiddos!

Yeah, I see it a lot from people on FB - these people are were my friends Sad

I like doggo. We refer to our dogs as the doggos, the woofers or the babies. The babies really annoys my MIL so I make sure to use it often in front of her whilst holding them like a newborn.

RelativePitch · 25/08/2022 13:16

I agree with your list, but I do call the dog doggo, doggins, dogothy. But just to her. I refer to her as the dog to other people.

I'll admit to using little man.

It's a hangover from not being able to decide on a name for a few weeks, and me and DP still use it as an affectionate term at home.

...but who are these people calling babies sexy little men?! I have literally never encountered this 🤣

DettyPig · 25/08/2022 13:16

Does it not actually effect your physical and mental health to be this fucking miserable?

CloudPop · 25/08/2022 13:17

@ThermoSpooklear but did it make you howl? Was tea spat out ?

This is the only way I approve of babies being used to refer to pets - when it’s done to wind up someone who is adamant that only those who are parents can use it!!!!!!!!!

I’ve not seen sexy but I’ve seen a lot of women describing a day out with infant or toddler as being a hot date, saying that their baby son is “into the ladies already” (after he glanced at a woman once), or that he’s a little heartbreaker. It’s a really weird thing to me but it absolutely happens.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/08/2022 13:19

I'm currently reading a book sets in Australia in the 1920's and they say littlie a lot. Don't think it's a new one. My mum has said all my life she hates hubby Grin
