it's funny how 'this one' was suddenly everywhere. I suppose it's meant to sound all casual and affectionate.

JubileeTissues · 25/08/2022 12:24

Pupper? Did you just say pupper? Envy

And "super cool"

Oh god, I might have to hide this thread

People on MN get incensed about the most innocuous words and phrases. I saw a comment once where someone said they got really angry at people saying 'slice of pizza'. No fucking clue why. Another person who felt 'physically sick' at the word 'meal'. Nuts! Or should I say nutso.

Having said that, of course anyone who says holibobs or bokkle should be shunned by decent society.

Agree with Bokkle ,can I also add Hospical and Sangals ?

FiveDollarMilkshake · 25/08/2022 12:25

i quite like doggo Smile

but I fucking hate it when my friend does a status update as “Out with the Mr” I cannot explain why that phrase gives me the shits

CandyLeBonBon · 25/08/2022 12:25

What are your thoughts on 'doggonaut' op?

Asking for a friend <ducks>

Imagine meeting a really hot guy and then he came out with the word 'hospical'. You'd have to end it there and then. Tragic.

Whilst wearing his Sangals 🤣

ShaunaTheSheep · 25/08/2022 12:32

Ugh ugh ugh. You are my people.

All the above plus preggers, preggo etc <vomits>

Top up the leccy gets me. It's electric. It's not fucking leccy. And my ex friend refers to children as the ickle ones. This is why she is no longer my friend. Plus horsey, doggy, kitty... arrghhhhhh! Stop adding ie onto everything. Talk like a fucking adult! You're not two!

That's regional and as often pointed out, some of us don't want to lose our regional accents or dialects. Here in Liverpool, it's leccy.

Teder · 25/08/2022 12:33

Shall I can my husband ’husbo’? Ooh or maybe the hubinator!

Georgeskitchen · 25/08/2022 12:42

Don't mind most of them.but I hate "hun"
I love the Australian way of adding "o" to the end of every word 🤣
Does that make me a wierd-o? 🤣🤣
P.S. I'm not from Oz

LadyWithLapdog · 25/08/2022 12:42

This thread makes me a bit sicko.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 25/08/2022 12:44

Can't stand people saying 'packet of cris' and leaving off the letters 'ps'.

It's CRISPS!

Also - 'sunfin' when they mean 'something'.

But that's due to pronunciation rather than 'trendy <🤢> language'.

My husband asks visitors if they want a 'tinnie' - another one from Australia. He probably wants to be 'down with the dudes' or something equally sickening.

Put him on a hubsticale course

ThermoSpooklear · 25/08/2022 12:49

"A cracking bit of kit, this." It's a laptop bag/dishwasher/pen, not a spare part for the Hadron Collider.

IodineQueen · 25/08/2022 12:49

I used to get annoyed about this. And then I got my beloved cat. I live alone and work from home. 95% of my daily vocabulary consists of ’din din!’, ‘brush brush!’ ‘play play’ ‘baby boy!’ ‘sweet boy!’ ‘cheeky boy’ and ‘chicken’. Thank god he’s the only one around to hear it. I disgust myself sometimes BlushGrin

StartupRepair · 25/08/2022 12:50

Australian abbreviations are not so twee. I think there is a distinction between the tweeness of 'hollibobs' and the laconic 'Arvo' as a greeting.

ThermoSpooklear · 25/08/2022 12:52

Ooh I say, "Let's change that bum bum," AND I WILL NEVER STOP <maniacal laughter>

SizzlerFizzler · 25/08/2022 12:52

Yes, I immediately read leccy in a Scouse accent.

Coastalcreeksider · 25/08/2022 12:53

Telly box anyone?

Zoe Ball uses it, one reason I have her on very low in the morning.

Underanothersky · 25/08/2022 12:54

Why even bother getting so incensed about such trivial things?

ThermoSpooklear · 25/08/2022 12:56

Aw, this thread has had me laughing (lolling) on what's been a very trying day so far. I think we're all capable of taking the piss out of ourselves about it Grin

Sonnex · 25/08/2022 12:57

I agree, fur baby, hubbie and little man are the WORSE. Make the speaker/writer sound like an absolute idiot.

What I hate even more though is the cutesy names for massive, muscled, in bred dogs that can kill grown adults, and regularly kill babies - staffies, pitties, rotties. It's pathetic, do they people won't judge then for having dangerous dogs if they try and make them sound cute?

That might have been me, the word meal makes me want to barf

meal is swill, something you’d feed animals from a trough

my mum uses it and it gives me the BOAK
