As a fully grown woman, I like using these terms.

Soz ladies, hubster, doggo and I are off on holibobs with the kiddos. Need extra nappies for bum changing and obvs will give them the boob when peckish. Making memories! Live laugh love!

Trulyweird1 · 25/08/2022 11:59

Agree with all of these, especially fur baby, but ‘ doggy’ and doggies gets me even worse.
They are 30 kg of sinew and muscle for goodness sake. They are not effing doggies.
To be honest I think it’s because the people who call my beautiful dogs ‘doggies’ do not realise that they are far more important to me than most humans 😂

People on MN get incensed about the most innocuous words and phrases. I saw a comment once where someone said they got really angry at people saying 'slice of pizza'. No fucking clue why. Another person who felt 'physically sick' at the word 'meal'. Nuts! Or should I say nutso.

Having said that, of course anyone who says holibobs or bokkle should be shunned by decent society.

missymarrk · 25/08/2022 12:00

The term crotch goblin for children too. I don't know what's worse. Little one or crotch goblin.

MabelMoo23 · 25/08/2022 12:02

I confess I am guilty of saying doggo when I’m speaking to the dog directly.

and I saw a good friend last night who called me kiddo when he gave me a hug, but he’s as Australian as they come, and it’s just what they do. I’m also 5 years older than him, but it’s a term of endearment from Aussies so doesn’t bother me. If anyone else said it to me, I wouldn’t be happy 🤣

SizzlerFizzler · 25/08/2022 12:02

I've just remembered an acquaintance who refers to her husband as Big Man and her son as Little Man. Too twee for words.

I've never heard of crotch goblin before! But right now...I'm amused.

I can't stand "change their bum!" 😡. I also can't stand "hun".

Oh wait what’s wrong with ‘change their bum?’ Have I been saying the wrong thing since I’ve had kids?😂😂

brightnesses · 25/08/2022 12:04

‘Holibobs’ is honestly the worst

Notanotherwindow · 25/08/2022 12:07

Top up the leccy gets me. It's electric. It's not fucking leccy. And my ex friend refers to children as the ickle ones. This is why she is no longer my friend. Plus horsey, doggy, kitty... arrghhhhhh! Stop adding ie onto everything. Talk like a fucking adult! You're not two!

ThermoSpooklear · 25/08/2022 12:08

Littles/Smalls/Smol. Little Man. Lickle Man. Bubba. Bubz. Husbeast. Husbear. Hubby. Hubz.
"I did a hair thing."

FrogFairy · 25/08/2022 12:08

My pet hate is when someone puts a photo of their child on Facebook and refers to them as “this one” as if they have forgotten the name of their own child.

Notanotherwindow · 25/08/2022 12:12

And boobing the baby. Boob is not a verb!

strawberryswirl3 · 25/08/2022 12:12

AGHHH I used to work in childcare and would physically shudder every time another girl would say to a child "let's change your bum". Not only is it cringy and crude but it doesn't make sense! You're not taking off their bottom and replacing it with a new one, are you?!

SpeckofDustUponMySoul · 25/08/2022 12:14

I loathe it, but also can't stand it when someone says that something gives them 'the rage'.

Mangogogogo · 25/08/2022 12:15

Where do we stand on boi? As in, this boi [accompanying photo of son]

CoffeeDay · 25/08/2022 12:18

Very different origins for those words. Kiddo has probably been around for decades and a very 70-80s American thing. Wasn't there an episode of SATC where Big called Carrie kiddo as a reminder of their age gap?

Doggo (and pupper) came out of meme culture in the mid 2000s and used to be super cool & edgy for millennials. So lots of older millennials still use that phrase out of habit even though it's now considered cringy.

without wanting to be inappropriate I only ever use boi if I'm referring to some adult male as a 'fuck boi'.

Maybe that's why there's the trend for "ee" girls names - Gracie, Evie, Poppy, Ruby, Ellie, Emily - because they sound very child-like too to me.

Boi is actually still very trendy! It's used by a lot of "cool" Gen Z Youtubers for laddish banter. (Yeah boi! Go boi!)

Onlyhuman123 · 25/08/2022 12:21

Can I add when a man posts a picture on SM of his DW and says 'going to XYZ with this one' or 'enjoying time spent with this gorgeous one'....no, she's not 'your one', she is your bloody wife?!!? gaaa.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 25/08/2022 12:21

In full agreement with all of the above.

See also 'Night out with 'this one'

Also someone posts a usually unfunny/semi-amusing meme/picture and someone comments underneath 'I'm dead', or 'Howling' etc.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 25/08/2022 12:22

X-post @Onlyhuman123 😁
