I’ve started seeing someone (likely for not much longer).

We were discussing what each of us were doing for bank holiday a few weeks back and I’m going to Brighton to see a friend. He commented that he didn’t like Brighton and then asked that’s the gay capital right? I said it was and is there a problem with that?

He said no but it’s very liberal there and he doesn’t like it in his face.

Ok …..

And today I was saying how I want to see Queen, he said he loves Bohemia Rhapsody. I commented did he not like any others? So I stated listing them and I said “I want to break free” - and he said no definitely not that, I asked if it’s because he’s dressed as a woman in the video. He retorted no but it’s about how he wants to break free …

Whatever that means. I’m on the fence with him anyway but this has sealed it for me I think.

I wouldn’t see that as homophonic
your allowed not to like things that is perfectly acceptable.
if you start promoting hatred about something then that is totally different

From what I've read of Brighton it's a hateful misogynistic place that hates women. The place the woman was raped was banned from a rape survivor group because she objected to a male sitting in the woman's group and grinning as she recounted her trauma. It's a place that doesn't believe in sex attraction and believes lesbians not wanting to fuck a lady dick is 'transphobic' so I wouldn't worry about the comment from that guy, I'd worry I was hanging around a hateful, misogynistic, homophobic area. It is not homosexual friendly or women friendly. I'd never choose to visit there, or raise girls there.

Bring up your imaginary gay friend who just proposed to his husband to be and how happy you are for them

or tell him you had a same sex partner before and stab him in the eyes if he says he’d like to watch

I live close to Brighton. It's a bit up itself but not because of its gay population- Brighton just thinks it's better than everyone else! The area around the lanes/north Laine and the seafront is nice but there's a lot of scabby run down, tired looking areas behind the facade. And landlords there are awful from my experience. Nice to visit, wouldn't want to live there though.

If that's what it is then I'm with him. I don't want to see men, or women, or women and men doing that in public. So...he's not necessarily homophobic. Brighton tries to push boundaries so I see what he's getting at.
