Men holding hands in the Street

Saw two men walking along hand in hand earlier and I admired their bravery and thought hope nobody starts on them.
Have seen women before but not men?
Do you think they were brave. Would you be scared for them if they were your sons?
Brave men. Perhaps it's something we will see more of in the future?

Zoeslatesttrope · 20/08/2022 20:01

Surely these days it's acceptable?!

AuntieMarys · 20/08/2022 20:02

I see it regularly. No big deal.

Pinkflipflop85 · 20/08/2022 20:02

I wouldn't think anything of it because it's been a perfectly normal thing to see in our area for many years.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 20/08/2022 20:02

I've seen it numerous times and never given it a thought. Sad to think it might still be a brave thing to do. I hope it no longer needs to be.

sweeetpotato · 20/08/2022 20:04

Wouldn't look twice.

It's perfectly normal and acceptable to most people in 2022.

Hopefully homophobes, while still in existence, are a (slowly) dying breed.

OldFashionedWoman · 20/08/2022 20:04

Have I just over revved the Delorean and ended up in The Eighties? Confused

Fairygarden1992 · 20/08/2022 20:04

Actually seen this during the week in my small hometown, first time in 30 years and I smiled the same whole way home. Two very young guys around 16 years old, I thought I hope they never face the prejudice or abuse that many others have throughout the decades.

FlyingSaucerss · 20/08/2022 20:04

Wouldn’t have noticed

Cocopogo · 20/08/2022 20:05

OP it’s people like you who are the problem. What’s the big deal? Who cares?

ImBoilingJackie · 20/08/2022 20:05

Confused by the voting but I would be fine with this. Haven't seen men holding hands in years, but do often see women and opposite sex couples doing so.

Jovanka · 20/08/2022 20:06

Crikey OP - where do you live that this is such a big deal?

Anewdayanewdawn · 20/08/2022 20:06

I’m gay. I think they’re brave. People yell stuff all the time to LGBTQ couples holding hands or showing affection.
DW and I often avoid hand holding and showing affection in public because it’s not worth the hassle.

LastWordsOfALiar · 20/08/2022 20:07

Let's not pretend, that in most areas it's still rare to see openly gay men holding hands and that homophobia, against men especially, is still rife.

I hate it when people are like "have I just ended up on the eighties?".

Uh no, but stop being so ignorant or dismissive of active homophobia that definitely still exists. Therefore, yes, it 100% is risky for guys to openly express their sexuality, sadly. And pretending it's not still a problem is dangerous.

girlfriend44 · 20/08/2022 20:07

I haven't seen it
at all with men and I would worry for them in case they came a cross some horrible ppl it does happen. I am not the problem. Stop twisting it the poster who said that.

Sirzy · 20/08/2022 20:08

I wouldn’t think twice about it. In the nicest possible way I couldn’t care less about who holds hands with who as long as they aren’t blocking the path doing so!

the fact we are in 2022 and you even thought this was noteworthy though shows how far we still have to go sadly

LastWordsOfALiar · 20/08/2022 20:09

Jovanka · 20/08/2022 20:06

Crikey OP - where do you live that this is such a big deal?

Where do you live where it isn't?!

My close relative is lesbian and talks about how she'd be worried about being openly gay in most places.

I think you're ignorant to homophobia.

Nellodee · 20/08/2022 20:09

It’s a lot more brave in Grimsby than it is in Brighton. I hope it becomes more normalised in the future, all across the country.

MingeofDeath · 20/08/2022 20:09

There is nothing inherently wrong with same sex couples walking down the road hand in hand. I do think that they are very brave as there are still plenty knuckle dragging homophobes around.

Oysterbabe · 20/08/2022 20:10

Brave? It's 2022. An entirely normal thing to see in my experience.

drpet49 · 20/08/2022 20:10

Not brave. Just normal.

Onandupw · 20/08/2022 20:10

It’s very naive to think that there is not an awful lot of homophonic people in the uk!

in was at the oval in south london a few years with a male couple and one of them wouldn’t hold hands because he was worried about being glassed 🤷‍♀️

Beezknees · 20/08/2022 20:11

My close friend is a gay man. He holds hands with his partner in public and kisses him. Never had any trouble. Maybe it depends on area, they live in London.

Jovanka · 20/08/2022 20:11

Where do you live where it isn't?!

Hackney

jugglerofballs · 20/08/2022 20:12

Have a fallen through a rupture in time and landed in the 1960s?

Fancydancer1934 · 20/08/2022 20:13

I think reactions are probably age specific? And gender specific. Myself and my female friends wouldn't care less if we saw this - I can think of at least two males in our group would react very differently. Each to his own I guess.
