DH has completely changed

GeorgiaDe · 20/08/2022 17:18

My DH has completely altered his worldview/ opinion over the last few years. It was gradual, and only now am I coming to realise the full extent of it. We've been together for 15 years.

He believes in the great reset, believes there will be a nuclear war, covid is a hoax and the vaccines are killing people. He's stockpiled around £3k worth of food/ camping equipment/ knives. Our spare room is full of this stuff. He's also invested thousands into cryptocurrency.

He believes that inflation is all part of the "plan" and all the world leaders are "in on it" together.

I can't take it anymore. He disrespects my opinion by continuing to talk about it daily, even when I've expressed that I do not share the same opinion and don't want to argue about it. He tells me that "I will see when the time comes."

Every time there's news of a celebrity death/ unexplained death of a young person, he blames the covid vaccine. He threatened to leave me if I got it, although changed his mind when I made clear how serious I was.

Aibu to feel at the end of my tether? It's so draining.

Gold* not hold

Pebble21uk · 22/08/2022 10:49

No it won't. People who have committed a lot to believing something are rarely swayed by rational argument.

This is very similar to those who have been victim to scams and lost money etc, but keep on giving more of their life savings away. Because to think any alternative means their life comes crashing down.

Nobody wants to think they have been taken in by something... they have also lost money (in the form of buying generators, silver bars etc etc) and so they keep buying into the ideology because not to do so is unthinkable...

Indoctro · 22/08/2022 10:48

I don't see anything wrong with the prepping side of things, as long as he is rotating the food so nothing is wasted

We got left high and dry in NE Scotland with storms. Rural communities cut off and no access to food etc. it was a absolute shambles.

Never will I be left in that situation again. We have installed a log burner for heat and a generator for electricity , and I have also done food prepping

I don't think he is unreasonable in that sense.

If freak weather comes no one really comes to help you, did you see what happened in the big freeze in Houston. I had friends there thinking they were going to freeze to death.

As for crypto..I know people investing in hold to try and protect there money from those inflation. Again I don't think your husband is crazy by trying to be proactive in protecting your future for the worst.

I would just let him be and tell him you support what he is doing but can he do it quietly and not bang on to you about it all the time.

I'm always suspicious of what the future holds , and I would take comfort in his efforts to try and prepare for the worse

My motto is prepare for the worse and hope for the best.

OPs husband thinks COVID is a hoax and gets his information from youtube.

I'm not sure why all the attempts to normalise his behaviour when he's clearly not capable of critical thought right now.

saltedcaramel1 · 22/08/2022 11:42

And @Indoctro , in what world in this reasonable behaviour?

He was coercing her into not following medical advice. Replace "vaccine" with HRT/anti-depressents/statins and see if that doesn't sound abusive to you?

Actually quite annoyed at all the gaslighting posts to someone who is already in a abusive relationship.

Indoctro · 22/08/2022 11:46

@saltedcaramel1 so what do you suggest she gets a divorce because he watches YouTube Confused

She got the covid vaccine she has already said that.

So the man isn't allowed to have his own beliefs and views and should have his wife leave him over it

Just tell him you don't want to listen it to. If he brings it up shut him down. He surely will soon stop banging on about it to her.

Such a disengenous reply. Obviously couples have differing opinions, of course watching youtube isn't grounds for divorce.

I'd give your head a wobble about why you're so commited to giving weight to CTs that you'll happily justify abusive behaviour in a relationship.

Except she’s done that and it’s made no difference. It’s right there in the OP’s first post.

In truth it doesn’t really matter what the subject is conspiracy, religion, veganism, environmentalism, health anxiety, mlm’s etc. if it’s an obsession or radicalism then it can rarely become a completely off limits subject in a relationship because the person is so fixated that everything comes back to the beliefs they hold.

This thread has digressed but it’s noticeable where this happened and the absence of acknowledgement of the relationship aspect of what was originally posted.

UniversalAunt · 22/08/2022 13:09

Surely @Userg1234 you are being sensible based on your own experience of ‘bare-cupboard’ poverty & being flooded out of your home.

Many folk living remotely stock up in case they are snowed in or cut off by seasonal flooding. It’d be daft not to have reserves.

I don't think YT or Alphabet can be trusted at all. They have proved themselves just as bad and their censorship is terrible. Shadow banning, removing subscriptions by stealth etc.

You seem obsessed by the algorithm though.

But the Guardian, Times, or BBC etc no longer have any credibility. They don't report the news. They tell you want to think and create the narrative for the 1%

So it's not the people posting on Youtube that you don't trust/dislike, it's Youtube admin? The people posting are all fine, honest and upstanding? Righteo.

You're right.

I'm happy to give the op some advice.

Talk to your GP and see if your partner will engage at all with people who could help him. Maybe look up resources for people in your situation. If all else fails I would split up. It will be awful to live with, won't do you any good and is potentially dangerous if it carries on.

georgarina · 22/08/2022 14:03

I don't want to freak you out but I knew someone who suddenly got really into conspiracies like this and the conspiracies got weirder (aliens building the moon) and they ended up telling me they had started hearing voices.

So it can genuinely be the first sign of serious mental illness.

YT are big tech. Big tech are as much of problem as much as the MSM and Pharma. It's all about global corporatism aided and abetted by governments. The job of government is to take public money and put into private hands. They use anything they can to do this. War is usually the main one but anything will do.

I'm not a fan of people like Alex Jones either, the term CT was I believe created as a distraction fron the reality and I believe hes the same.

You want some examples? OK

  1. Check non covid excess mortality figures, it's through the roof in all age groups.
  1. Why are governments paying farmers not to farm?

These two things are easily checkable but won't be in the MSM ever.

Hopefully you won't come back with a 'do your own research' to this question but...

If they're 'easily checkable' then please can you provide some links showing the evidence for these?

I'm not saying evidence doesn't exist. I'm asking to see some.

And I can't understand why people wouldn't be willing or able to provide links showing evidence that is 'easily checkable' if they really believe that evidence is reliable.

So please can you share some so that I can take a look with an open mind?

Wouldyouthough79 · 23/08/2022 00:08

@loginsaredicks I'm also interested, please could you explain points 1 & 2

wellhelloitsme · 23/08/2022 00:28

I'm interested in this too, @loginsaredicks. I do try to be open-minded, but every time I ask someone about this type of thing, I just get told to find it myself. If its not in mainstream media, where do I find it?

It's so frustrating when you're genuinely open minded isn't it? I love learning. I'm not trying to find a 'gotcha'. I genuinely want to see evidence that people say is easily accessible but if it's easily accessible evidence, why don't they share it? Why can't they? It's very frustrating.

HappyDays40 · 23/08/2022 03:59

OP this is so hard. I lost my friend this way. She lost her husband and children who she now just sees occasionally. It's not something I could do.

Ritasueandbobtoo · 23/08/2022 05:58

My sister is just like your husband and she actually works in mental health! She has gone as far as making her partner wear condoms so she doesn't get the vaccine in her bloodstream. Obviously I'm all for condoms but she is sterile and he's had the snip and they've been together 20 odd years.
Her partner is considering leaving her as she has become obsessed to the point of staying up all night watching videos and reading the app Telegram ehere she connects with like minded people.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and belief system but like my sister, they should not push this on other people who have a different mindset.
she bombards people with videos and articles and regularly tells my 16 year old her theories, he found her hilarious when she said we would all be cannibals very soon!
She is now talking about not paying her electricity bill as a protest and switching it off completely.
I feel for you it's very frustrating as they are not open to the possibility of it being utter bullshit.
I will eat my hat if it does somehow materialise but she's been telling me the reset will happen for a couple of years and when it doesn't happen, she says it is blamed on war or government 🤔
Oh and she is an avid putin supporter and believes Ukraine are stockpiling chemical and nuclear weapons and Russia are defending the world from Ukraine.
Sorry about the essay and really terrible punctuation. Take care op. I really do feel for you xxxx

knittingaddict · 23/08/2022 06:18

Cryptic posts about excess deaths are meaningless. I have no clue what you are trying to say. So what do you think it means?

If you were even slightly trying to educate people surely you would just say but no, it's all coded words that only those in the "club" will get. It's a bit pathetic really.

Zilla1 · 23/08/2022 07:58

Non-COVID excess deaths if material (the last time I looked there were some transient periods but not material over time with anything like the magnitude of COVID excess deaths) would have an explanation in the UK from pressures on a health-system that is under pressure and which operated sub-optimally during the outbreak in diseases such as cancer care. The reality was that if care had continued unchanged then the deaths would have been worse. Surgery needs ITU which was full during the outbreak.

Farmers were paid not to farm when CAP led to milk/butter/other mountains (mountain ranges) then a recognition that industrial farming ruined the environment and would lead to soil depletion. Then a recognition that soil and solar PV and tree-growing had a major contribution to mitigating climate change which in non-conspiracy theory land is a crisis arriving. Farming isn't something that can easily be turned off and on and although output prices might be rising, the input costs of fertiliser, seeds, diesel and so on are astronomically high. Brexit will harm farmers but oddly the CTs don't tend to be remainers IME. Haven't looked what the latest protean CT theory is about farming beyond Gates' plan to own all the land and control the seeds. Will he control the brain chips, the vaccine chips and the McCain chips too?

Perhaps if people wrote down their falsifiable CTs then looked later if the evidence showed what had transpired then they might learn something about themselves instead of thinking watching a video enables them to become more of an expert on a range of subjects like medieval constitutional law, vaccines, mRNA, farming, airplane atmospheric conditions and so on.

Good lord. Funnily enough, a national health emergency that impacts a countrie's infrastructure tends to lead to lots more death than normal.

I don't think people repeating these statements with no context have an excuse anymore, when hundreds of literal epidemiologists taken the time to provide commentary.

foliageeverywhere · 23/08/2022 10:34

For anyone interested, this covers some of the claims I think the PP is making, although it's hard to tell when they're so vague. From an epidemiologist who has published high quality papers including those on coronavirus.

I'm even starting to question myself. Which is ridiculous, as I know my own mind and I do not believe any of this. He's just so persistent. He even thinks the train strikes are part of the "plan."

Don't they have something like this in the US? I'm sure I've read people stock pile what they think are necessary items for some sort of horrible world event ? food meds guns etc. Can't remember what they're called.

Cornettoninja · 23/08/2022 11:12

@been and done it. Preppers.

Theres nothing inherently wrong with being a ‘prepper’, but it does attract people who’ve lost perspective and see patterns that aren’t there. There’s a danger of beliefs becoming a self fulfilling prophecy (see the Capitol Hill riots/qanon).
