Would you be happy with your partner sitting on other women's laps?

And dancing intimately with them at 4am (even if they didn't kiss)
I've read the articles about the Finnish PM. I think it's ridiculous that she's being criticised for going to a nightclub with friends, and enjoying herself. Boris and co have done far worse.
However I do feel a bit bad for her husband. She was caught dancing quite intimately with some hip hop singer and sitting on different men's laps.
How would you feel honestly if your partner did this?

Bloody hell you have no idea about her relationship with her husband, to know he'd be unhappy with it!

Also, it's dancing. In no way impacts her availing to lead the country.

goshy · 20/08/2022 13:21

That's it's illogical because you are saying there is nothing wrong with the behaviour & the issue is that it's in the media.

Apparently, she should have known that the media would pick up her (perfectly fine) behaviour and ‘use it against her’. The problem is apparently not the sexist repugnant media using her (perfectly fine) behaviour against her. It’s her lack of judgement in not hiding her (perfectly fine) behaviour.

The misogyny is coming from inside the house. Couldn’t make this stuff up.

Livpool · 20/08/2022 13:28

I think we will have to agree to disagree @Cherchezlaspice @goshy

I just think that if you are the PM of Finland and with the issues with Russia then you have to behave in a way that doesn't bring additional scrutiny. They will do anything to cause issues - so don't give them any ammunition.

That is the job she took

Cherchezlaspice · 20/08/2022 13:31

@Livpool I’ve already said, quite comprehensively, what I think of your opinions. I have nothing further to add.

goshy · 20/08/2022 13:38

but where do you draw the line when talking about giving ammunition & additional scrutiny?
I didn't know going out drinking & dancing was immoral & crossing the line.

Livpool · 20/08/2022 13:41

Because that's life - I don't agree with it. I work in Tech - no one cares if I go out and get pissed.

She is the PM of Finland and knows Russia are spoiling for a fight. I wouldn't be doing anything that could be jumped in.

Just my opinion @Cherchezlaspice - no need to be snide.

Am I the only one who finds going to a nightclub at 35 kind of cringe? I’m 32 and would feel way too old to be clubbing.

I find them cringeworthy anyway. Always hated nightclubs.

I know that misses the point of the thread.

Would I like my partner doing this? Hell no! If that makes me an uncool wife then so be it. For a Prime Minister it will be blasted across world media and is very undignified.

goshy · 20/08/2022 13:59

Because that's life - I don't agree with it. I work in Tech - no one cares if I go out and get pissed.

i'm genuinely unbothered if any of our politicians drink.

She is the PM of Finland and knows Russia are spoiling for a fight. I wouldn't be doing anything that could be jumped in.

But surely anything could be jumped on that's the point. Perfection & saintliness do not exist.

Scepticalwotsits · 20/08/2022 14:02

So two parts would I be happy if my partner was doing this or would they be happy if I did this no.

second part. Yes she’s a world leader, but she is also young as leaders go (36) the normal age leaders is to be crusty 60 plus old men and women and they act differently. I don’t see why she should be treated differently from other people her age.

her actions as part of a relationship is different to actions as leader.

Which the uk has basically said they would defend Finland if that happened. If uk gets invoked it will drag nato in. Unlike the Poles who were begging for a single Russian bullet to land on their side of the border to trigger article 5

There’s no need for your huge amounts of internalised misogyny either, yet here we are.

Just my opinion.

dottiedodah · 20/08/2022 14:09

I think she is just letting her hair down .At 37 she is a very young PM.Many MPs have done the same or worse apart from Boris ,Micheal Gove "dad dancing" or David Mellor caught with a young beauty some years back.If she has taken Drugs then surely this would show on the tests ,if not then leave her be .She is allowed time off surely?

So, you’re contending that the Finnish PM going out dancing will cause Russia to attack Finland, thus drawing in the U.K. and NATO (and essentially triggering WW3)? Really?

That may be the maddest stupidest thing I’ve ever read on MN. Which is no mean feat.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 20/08/2022 14:17

@Scepticalwotsits blaming the start of a massive war on a woman going to a club is ridiculous.

I don't care either and she should be able to do what she likes.

But the media is completely sexist - and politicians are always picked apart - unless
You are a white, middle aged man. So maybe get pissed in private.

I don't agree with any of this btw.

@Cherchezlaspice I am not being personal about you so not sure why me having an opinion about the way the sexist media works has riled you so much

I don’t know you, so I can’t be ‘personal’ about you. I can, however, state that everything you’ve said is soaked in internalised misogyny. I’ve been very clear as to how and why. If you haven’t understood what’s been said, that’s not my lookout.

I’m not particularly riled, but you’re part of the problem and I’ve told you so. There’s nothing further to be gained from this interaction, so now I’m going to ignore you.

Erm no that’s not what I’m saying. What I was saying is in r3ponce to a PP who said they wouldn’t be doing anything to let Russia jump in. I was countering that view. If Russia got invoked the uk would get invoked and most likely nato, however because of that possibility the chances of Russia doing something is small, they are bullies hense Chechnya, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

what Russia would do has no bearing in her being at a party, and if you read my other post she has every right to be there and do what her age peers would be doing.

My apologies, in that case. I’m VERY glad that wasn’t what you were saying.

HRTQueen · 20/08/2022 15:28

While I think men are absolutely judged differently the whole bunch of them look like they have been using coke

it’s not just the dancing it’s how they are acting, the brashness the shouting, the over exuberance, the filming themselves ffs they are not in their 20’s

if a friend had shown me this of a group of friends I would have asked or assumed the were all taking coke

im absolutely sure that this happens at parties MP’s attend but when you are leader of the country you have to keep in mind you are always being watched you need to be careful

I wouldn’t be impressed if Tony Blair/Gordon Brown/David Cameron/Theresa May/Boris Johnson behaved in such a way (though what Johnson has done is far worse and May well I can’t even imagine)

Smellywellyhoo · 20/08/2022 15:42

I don't care what politicians do in their relationships, as long as it isn't illegal. However if it was my partner I wouldn't be happy.

Cherchezlaspice · 20/08/2022 15:44

@HRTQueen There’s no indication they’ve done coke and the people who think there is, they clearly don’t know a lot of cokeheads (which is great for them). That’s just how some people party. Generally young, hyper successful people with hyper stressful jobs.

She’s done a drugs test (that she shouldn’t have had to do) and it’ll come back clean. So, basically, all she’s done is get pissed and do some silly dancing. Shouting and being overly exuberant isn’t a crime at any age.

HRTQueen · 20/08/2022 15:49

I absolutely do know a number of cokeheads and that is why I think there was certainly coke being taken no one is saying being loud or partying is a problem it’s how they are acting

she is leader of a country she is 37 not 25 executive in a marketing company of course this was likely to be leaked why would she think it wouldn’t be

if she did the test from Wednesday morning onwards (even Tuesday) it will be clean

Nightlystroll · 20/08/2022 16:04

If we carry on with this demonising of politicians and intrusion into private lives, we'll end up with no one actually wanting to be a politician. No-one can live a life where 100% of people are happy with you 100% of the time unless you never go out, never laugh at a joke, never gave a holiday or time off...
SM doesn't allow any nuance and often ignores truth if it's inconvenient. It's easy to find 1,000 people to support any ridiculous stance and then it's a trend and everyone with nothing better to do on a breezy Saturday afternoon piles in. And then when that persons life is wrecked, everyone just moves onto someone else's life to destroy.

I know a lot of coke heads and I disagree. And, if you’re going to disbelieve a clear drug’s test, then there’s no way to disprove a negative.

It doesn’t matter if she’s 45 or 25, she wasn’t doing anything wrong. It ‘leaking’ is irrelevant, as there is no proof of any wrongdoing. The manner in which they were acting may not have been to your taste, but that doesn’t constitute illegality or misconduct.
