Crisps & dips, cheeseburgers on burger baps, large salad, spicy wedges, corn on the cob, strawberries & ice cream for dessert?

What would you add/change?

Sounds a tad municipal, wouldnt say nice bbq, more basic bbq.

Savemyusernameplease · 19/08/2022 19:30

@WowIlikereallyhateyou What should I add to the burgers and chicken kebabs? There are only 4 adults and 2 kids, we’ll be stuffed 😅

I’d add an alternative meat. Probably chicken

Sallyingon · 19/08/2022 19:31

Imo the perfect bbq is steak, sausage, marinated chicken thigh, garlic bread, salad, tabbouleh and coleslaw. I think you need.more meat

Sausage/salmon/steak/koftas etc, all options.

Savemyusernameplease · 19/08/2022 19:35

You dont have vast quantities, just a bit of each. I would loose the chips/dips and the wedges and go for some cous cous or potato salad instead, but thats just me.

NoSquirrels · 19/08/2022 19:38

Have you invited people for ‘a BBQ’ or to come over for a meal?

If there’s only 6 of you, and you’re just using the BBQ instead of the oven, it’s fine. Do t stress.

If you’re ‘catering a BBQ’ and the barbecued food is the whole point, add some other stuff.

NoSquirrels · 19/08/2022 19:40

What I’d do is have burgers, kebabs and sausages in, or salmon/veggie, and ask what people would prefer. I’d skip a burger and go for the other stuff, kids might only want sausages etc.

stuntbubbles · 19/08/2022 19:51

I’d 100% swap the potato wedges for a potato salad, it just “goes” with barbecue food better imo. Definitely add coleslaw!

I don’t think you need to add ALL the suggestions on the thread – it depends as pp above says, is this a meal where some components happen to be barbecued, or a barbecue where the barbecuing is the event?

ellieboolou · 19/08/2022 19:54

Id be a bit disappointed to only have burgers as not a fan of them, I'd add sausages and chicken drumsticks, lose the corn on the cob & wedges, have coleslaw & potato salad, and pitta on the BBQ

Have you never been to a BBQ before

I have and never seen one with just one meat option such as burgers

You need at least sausages, ideally some chicken too

I think with bbqs you expect a variety…. But it won’t necessarily all be eaten.
So I’d expect a range of meats but might only have a skewer and a sausage and a spoon full of the other salads and a pudding.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 19/08/2022 20:01

I would loose the burget buns too.

Most people would expect a burger to be served in a bun…

ihatebojo · 19/08/2022 20:12

I'm doing a bbq tomorrow for 38 people.

I have prepared marinated chicken thighs, pork chops, burgers (with buns and cheese slices) and sausages.

Then I have vegetable skewers, coleslaw, pasta salad and green salad.

For the vegans I have beyond burgers and some sausages.

Cakes and ice cream for dessert.

People will also bring something to contribute, so I decided just to cover the basics.

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2022 20:25

Don’t lose the burger buns!

A bunless burger is a sad thing

Chesneyhawkes1 · 19/08/2022 20:28

For me it needs more meat. That's all I eat at bbq's though. Forget the salad and sides - just give me a big plate of meat 🥩

Ravenblack1 · 19/08/2022 20:51

Get proper burger buns not those poncey brioche ones.

Noooo

Crunchymum · 19/08/2022 21:12

Who is this for?

As your evening meal for the people who live at home, it's lovely.

For guests, it's a bit limited. Needs a few more bits to actually BBQ.

Ravenblack1 · 19/08/2022 22:01

Competitive MN BBQing is very funny.

OP, your BBQ is fine.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 19/08/2022 22:14

Don't worry about cooking too much meat ... cold barbecue meat the following day is heaven!
