Is this a nice bbq?

Crisps & dips, cheeseburgers on burger baps, large salad, spicy wedges, corn on the cob, strawberries & ice cream for dessert?

What would you add/change?

More meat

This is very basic

girlmom21 · 19/08/2022 17:42

I'd add sausages and some chicken varieties

Megapint · 19/08/2022 17:43

It's your basic, no frills BBQ fare. Nothing offensive. Sounds nice 👌

MarinoRoyale · 19/08/2022 17:44

It’s a bit of a stretch to call it a bbq when the only thing being put on it is a burger (maybe the corn on the cob at a stretch), I’d feel a bit shortchanged if I was invited to one and there was only one meat option. I’d ditch at least one of the sides and add way more meat/veggie/halloumi options

erikbloodaxe · 19/08/2022 17:45

Some other BBQ items would be good. As others have said above and some fish too. Veggie tofu kebabs. BBQ cauliflower steaks. Potato salad. Rainbow coleslaw. Add Hot Brownies and ice cream and pavlova to your dessert table.

Ravenblack1 · 19/08/2022 17:48

I'm all about the cheeseburgers and hot dogs at a BBQ so I wouldn't be bothered about anything fancy.

LairyMcClairy · 19/08/2022 17:50

I’d add chipolata sausages (they cook fast so less time to burn). If no one’s vegetarian I think that’s fine, otherwise I’d add veg skewers and halloumi.

I’d just make sure there’s loads of it as people might have quite a bit of one thing if there isn’t much variety.

SummerLovin123 · 19/08/2022 17:53

Add some prawns, some veggie sausages, some halloumi, maybe some kebabs?

SummerLovin123 · 19/08/2022 17:53

And a variety of salads.

Nekomata · 19/08/2022 17:54

I think it depends on who's attending.

My brother would be disappointed as he's all about the meat! We usually do spare ribs and the kids love sausages on a stick. We also do marshmallows and have chocolate digestives to squash them between. BBQ brownies with ice cream. I'm veggie, so veggie burgers. Potato salad is good as well.

SummerLovin123 · 19/08/2022 17:54

Maybe some corn on the cobs?

UWhatNow · 19/08/2022 17:55

HelloMrBond · 19/08/2022 17:26

There’s a salad?

Lucky, lucky vegetarians.

SummerLovin123 · 19/08/2022 17:54

Maybe some corn on the cobs?

Literally says corn on the cobs in the OP😂

Hoppinggreen · 19/08/2022 17:56

Wouldn’t suit me as I don’t eat burgers but I’m not invited 😀

Ravenblack1 · 19/08/2022 17:57

UWhatNow · 19/08/2022 17:55

Lucky, lucky vegetarians.

I don't recall the Op saying anything about vegetarians attending the BBQ.

DogsAndGin · 19/08/2022 17:59

So the bbq is just burgers and corn then? I wouldn’t bother firing the thing up for that! What about prawns, steaks, pork belly, halloumi, chicken skewers, lamb kebabs, marinated drumsticks, sweet peppers, sausages.

SquigglePigs · 19/08/2022 18:00

Honestly it sounds ok but I'd be a bit disappointed if I was invited to a BBQ and that's what I was served. Your sides sound great but I agree with others that something else on the actual BBQ would be good. Even just some sausages!

By comparison, I usually do sausages (so I know the kids will eat something), some halloumi and then one other thing like burgers, marinated chicken, little steaks, pork belly etc. I think a pp's description of it as a nice dinner but a bit light on actual BBQ sounds right.

Ravenblack1 · 19/08/2022 18:00

OP, you don't have to buy the entire contents of Waitrose to have a BBQ.

Burgers and sausages are fine.

Nekomata · 19/08/2022 18:00

Is anyone else getting really hungry reading this thread? 😂

hummerbird · 19/08/2022 18:01

You have the 'enormous' salad, that will feed the veggies.

BigChesterDraws · 19/08/2022 18:01

Not much is actually barbecued so I wouldn’t call it a barbecue. More of a buffet.

bubblebabble · 19/08/2022 18:02

Given that there's a cost of living crisis, I say, that works fine and only buy/serve what doesn't put you out of pocket.

Ravenblack1 · 19/08/2022 18:03

Do the imaginary veggies at the OPs BBQ not eat spicy wedges and corn on the cob then?

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2022 18:03

You need more stuff on the bbq I think

MatildaJayne · 19/08/2022 18:05

I love a BBQ but mainly for the different salads people bring, homemade potato salad, homemade coleslaw, couscous as well as lettuce etc. Happy with sausages and burgers.
