Is this a nice bbq?

Crisps & dips, cheeseburgers on burger baps, large salad, spicy wedges, corn on the cob, strawberries & ice cream for dessert?

What would you add/change?

not really my cup of tea, I think if you’re going to bbq then have lots of lovely fish, marinaded meats etc. I’m not keen on wedges, I would do interesting salads, and meats, usually I do either Greek/Turkish or Middle Eastern themes. But if you love burgers and wedges then you’ll love it and that’s surely the most important bit?!

Pollyjun · 19/08/2022 18:13

Veggie option - halloumi or paneer tikka skewers 😋

GiltEdges · 19/08/2022 18:13

I’d be missing sausages / chicken skewers / coleslaw / potato salad. Not everyone loves burgers.

TheSoapyFrog · 19/08/2022 18:17

Tbh if I was invited to a bbq, I'd be a bit disappointed to find burgers were the only thing on offer. Doesn't really seem worth firing it up for. I'd add some sausages, chicken, and maybe fish and/or halloumi.

OhItsSpicyy · 19/08/2022 18:18

Veggie option? I’d add few different types of salads and some potato salad, coleslaw & cous cous. Kebab skewers with meat or (&) veggies, hot dogs with buns and maybe some halloumi. Unless you’re BBQing for a tiny handful of people then I understand the lack of options because it would be a lot of food to buy.

dudsville · 19/08/2022 18:22

A good meal does not have be all bells and whistles. It sounds good to me OP!

HoliMooli · 19/08/2022 18:23

When we do a bbq we have burgers, sausages and lamp chops for meat as well as halloumi, corn on the cob and jacket potatoes for the vegetarians. I usually make some homemade garlic bread or focaccia as well to have with sides of coleslaw, potato salad, Greek salad and olives. If my whole family’s coming I may even add some chicken drumsticks. Your menu does seem very basic - ok for just your immediate family but not if you’re having company.

Mammyloveswine · 19/08/2022 18:30

What? You need sausages..chicken skewers... corn on the cob... belly pork..

Mammyloveswine · 19/08/2022 18:31

FatherDougalsBlueJumper · 19/08/2022 17:40

Salmon cooked in foil packets with a bit of lemon and garlic.

Oooh yes!

OP, you don't have to buy the entire contents of Waitrose to have a BBQ.

Burgers and sausages are fine.

There are no sausages...

Lds1 · 19/08/2022 18:39

I'd just put burgers in the grill. Wouldn't be worth the hassle of getting out the BBQ just for those.

TheFlis12345 · 19/08/2022 17:07

I agree, nice enough, but basic, if it was for guests rather than just us I would include at least one alternative meat item and probably some halloumi or grilled veg.

Agree. I would add a potato or pasta salad, a plain green salad is meh and not really a bbq side. I would add some chicken skewers and a veg option too. Some garlic rolls under the grill are always nice too.

Mumspair1 · 19/08/2022 18:40

hummerbird · 19/08/2022 18:01

You have the 'enormous' salad, that will feed the veggies.

LOL. MN salad 😅

Maggiethecat · 19/08/2022 18:40

Haven’t read the thread but if this is a bbq is it just burger patties that will go on the grill?

I would consider doing chicken pieces or kebabs, sausages - meat or veggie if you’re having veggie friends over.

Coleslaw is a nice accompaniment for barbecued meat/fish.

Watermelon is good too.

Rapidtango · 19/08/2022 18:51

All those saying only burgers on the grill, surely you'd barbecue the corn and wedges too? I think it sounds nice. If it was for a party I might do a pasta, potato or grain salad and a veggie option - the ubiquitous halloumi or veg kebabs, and perhaps some lamb cutlets or chicken drumsticks to add to the burgers, but if it's just a family BBQ on a Friday evening, the menu sounds great. Maybe some giant marshmallows for toasting later.

KupoNutCoffee · 19/08/2022 18:55

Its a nice dinner....but not a bbq. More of it is cooked off the bbq or cold than on it.

I'd skip the wedges, unless you have someone that desperately wants them. I wouldn't want to turn on the oven AND the bbq.

Sausages and burgers minimum. Chicken thighs go nicely. We had a bit of an impromptu bbq with my parents the other day and had one of each, with corn on the cob and a couple of rolls.

For guests, some of the kofta style kebabs and flat breads if you're wanting something other than burger buns.

Of course going all out, ribs, slow cooked for hours, Wings.

Halloumi, veggie burgers and sausages. Grilled Cauliflower steaks, stuffed peppers might work.

Oh I'm hungry now...

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2022 18:59

Surely bbq-ing wedges is a PITA! I admit I’ve never done it!

Hshhshsh · 19/08/2022 19:00

Loaded potato skins

Ellemnope · 19/08/2022 19:01

Some pasta with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, grated cheese all mixed in with Mayo

Savemyusernameplease · 19/08/2022 19:24

Ok thanks, thought was a bit basic, but I’m not used to having like a huge range of meat on the bbq 🤣We’re abroad and basically just have it out every day, so have one meat or fish etc
I think I’ll change wedges to potatoes wrapped in foil on the bbq and add coleslaw and chicken and pepper, onion kebabs. Would I really need potato salad *And potatoes though 🤷🏻‍♀️Seems weird
Will toast marshmallows too and dc like doing that
Should I go for strawberries & ice cream or just a nice cheesecake instead?

Amandasummers · 19/08/2022 19:25

Yeah I'd at the very least add Sausages!

Despairingof · 19/08/2022 19:25

It’s pretty boring, is the 🌽 being bbq’d? I’d add another bbq dish and lose a course of dips or desserts

Ravenblack1 · 19/08/2022 19:27

You don't need potato salad. Definitely add coleslaw though. If it's just for a family dinner, your original menu sounds fine.
