To not want to be friends with fire signs

Lordylord1 · 18/08/2022 22:22

I know if I read this I would probably think I was crazy.
but it’s dawned on me I don’t get on with fire signs! I like them as aquaintences but I always feel let down by them
as im quite deep and emotional and I find fire signs to be about image abs quite hard hearted.

all my failed friendships are with fire sign ladies - have I finally gone cuckoo lol

On the back of this thread I have discovered that my star sign isn't what I thought it was, that there is such a thing as a moon sign, what my moon sign is and how its description is the complete opposite of who I am (it couldn't be more wrong if it tried).

I was also surprised to discover that Aquarius isn't a water sign. How is it not a water sign? It's a woman with a jug of water!

donquixotedelamancha · 19/08/2022 12:10

Are you spending time actually worrying about a difficult moon sign (or some other astrological characteristic)?

Actually this is one case where I think Star Signs do correlate well with specific personality traits. For people who believe in star signs it's always about them.

WalkingOnTheCracks · 19/08/2022 12:11

Years ago, I knew the bloke who wrote the top-selling annual Starsign prediction books. People swore by them. Apparently their accuracy and insight was uncanny.

He and I used to have very long, very boozy lunches in a pub in the West End, making them up.

🤣 To be fair, they're self-selected by the criterion "Thinking that my personality and life events are linked to the existence and movements of unimaginably large heavenly bodies, unimaginably huge distances away", so all-about-meism is kinda baked in.

More seriously, I've got no problem with people having a bit of fun playing around with star signs and astrology charts the same way you might have fun with a zodiac type system from a completely different culture or one made up for a science fiction/fantasy novel, or a Facebook quiz, or anything else.

Where this stuff worries me is when people take it more seriously and are led to make choices they wouldn't otherwise choose, which at the more innocuous end might be something like limiting their friendship circle to non-fire signs, but which could be something much more impactful, or where they become vulnerable to falling prey to hucksters and con artists who will take as much money as you have to give.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 19/08/2022 12:24

Wait a minute. Someone quotes me, takes my post personally for no reason, and finishes with a completely unprovoked "So fuck you yeah."

I respond, civilly for the most part, but adding "Fuck you sideways" at the end — a clear mirroring response to show how ridiculous the other poster's escalation was but not myself escalating in any way (unless you count "sideways", which was intended to add levity) — and my post is deleted but the other one stands? When the quote I'm responding to is right there in my post?

Mumsnet moderation is ridiculous.

djdkdkddkek · 19/08/2022 12:28

To be honest I was actually wondering the same thing. I took my fuck you sideways on the chin.

djdkdkddkek · 19/08/2022 12:29

And to be honest I think we both know your lofty remark was aimed at me. So don’t play the “gosh what on earth provoked that” card. It’s annoying. You said something shitty and I replied with something shitty.

It's weird right? I made a report of my own post just now to ask MNHQ about it (before seeing the post I'm replying to now) and specifically said I don't want your post deleted. The odd "fuck you" is a healthy release of frustration IMO 🤣 rather than something I'd think of as a personal attack, which would have to be more… personal.

They’ll probably delete the first fuck you if you report it.

Trying9877 · 19/08/2022 12:34

I don't know about anyone else but today is a "fuck you" day for me.... Maybe I should check my horoscope?

djdkdkddkek · 19/08/2022 12:35

It’s been a fuck you year to be fair

djdkdkddkek · 19/08/2022 12:35

I shouldn’t have said fuck you. Sorry about that. That’s was too much of me. Sorry.

malificent7 · 19/08/2022 12:37

I'm an aries but have only become "fiery" in later life.

Trying9877 · 19/08/2022 12:37

😂Yes it has.

Mumsnet should have a standing tread. Just to go and say "fuck you", and get rid of the stress of not saying it all the time. The Fuck You Thread.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 19/08/2022 12:37

It genuinely wasn't aimed at you, but you can think that if you like. My writing may be off as I've not slept, so I might be coming across differently to how I mean… It wasn't aimed at anyone here in particular. I'd been thinking about a friend I used to have who had an objectively pretty nice, chill life but would get really stressed about [not horoscopes but a different paranormal/supernatural system] and waste huge amounts of time ruminating about it.

If these things are bringing extra stress and worry into someone's life, they're not helpful. You're obviously not in that group, so the post wouldn't apply to you.

It's fine 🤣 Did it at least feel good?

Fantastic idea. Screaming it into the void Mumsnet could really vent some steam. Maybe even some calories. If you start it, I'll join Grin

Hmm no just stroppy and indignant which is never a nice feeling!! Proper teenager ahahahaha

BusterSword · 19/08/2022 12:47

djdkdkddkek · 19/08/2022 11:47

Who did I discount and judge? Huh?

I was speaking more generally about the people on this thread making (often negative) judgements about other people's personality based on when they were born and saying they wouldn't want to associate or be friends with them. Doesn't seem all that fan and lighthearted to me.

Scratch the surface of almost any supposed adult and you'll find a teenager waiting to burst out IMO Grin

I think star signs and their characteristics are nonsense. According to my star sign I should be sporty, energetic and love being outdoors - whereas even as a child, my favourite activity was reading, I hated doing sports, and was utterly crap at every one I tried, and I was, and still am, overweight.

Jupiter in the first house?

sorry I’m just being silly now because of the “I’m supposed to be X but I’m Y” responses
Yeah we get it, astrology is bullshit lol

IncompleteSenten · 19/08/2022 12:56

How the holy hell does the time of year you were born in any way shape your personality?

It doesn't.

whumpthereitis · 19/08/2022 13:04

Aries sun, Scorpio rising and Capricorn moon apparently.

Not sure what someone into astrology would think of that? No, I don’t believe in it, but it’s harmless fun.
