How much do you spend on your hair a year?

We were doing a family budget and my biggest and really only personal expense is my hair. I think I am well within the national average for a 47 year old woman, DH thinks it's ludicrous (even though he spends equally on trainers and clothes). So how much a year does your crowning glory set you back?

Zero, but I have other very expensive habits.

NewMoney1000000 · 15/08/2022 19:04

12 root touch up box dyes a year a £5 each = £60
7 cuts for £38 plus £5 tip
10 fringe trims, free but I give £5 tip
£411 in total
I am 53 and have long shiny hair I absolutely love.

Jumpformylov3 · 15/08/2022 19:05

Cut my self and dds I just can't afford the cost of it! The boys go to the barbers because it's cheaper and I would butcher their heads if I did it

MajorCarolDanvers · 15/08/2022 19:08

I get a cut and blow dry about 4 times a year so about £160.

katieg03 · 15/08/2022 19:17

£1200. Jeez, that's actually ridiculous... My hair is curly and super long though

About £600. Long, thick hair with foils every couple of months.

Elphame · 15/08/2022 20:29

Around £1000.

I have long thick hair and some fancy colouring

NotAnEmmit · 15/08/2022 20:29

About £50?

2 x £20 haircuts per year and a bottle of curl definition serum.

oh and just 2 in 1 shampoo which the whole family use.

hairs just not my thing, I’m not fussed about it at all. But if you can afford it and you enjoy having it done then I don’t see a problem.

Titsywoo · 15/08/2022 20:30

I'm pretty lazy with my hair and usually get it cut twice a year and highlights once a year. It is curly so the roots never show too badly. I'm actually really thinking about growing out all the colour at the moment. I'm nearly 44 so might end up with a lot of grey but I'm not too bothered about it. Cost per year no more than £250 inc shampoo and conditioner.

Oneborneverydecade · 15/08/2022 20:30

@katieg03 do you not spend a lot on products for your curly hair? The curly accounts I follow on insta seem to use lots of pricey products

4x £70 cut
4x £20 Aveda product
12x £7 shampoo & conditioner (each)

Sleepyblueocean · 15/08/2022 20:38

About £220. 6 cuts a year and the shampoo and conditioner that the rest of the house use. I don't colour it - age 53 and letting it go grey.

Snozwanger · 15/08/2022 20:41

£210 a year (6x £35 cut and blow dry). My only expense is shampoo and conditioner and occasionally a heat protection spray. My husband would kill me if I spent what some of you do!

BatshitBanshee · 15/08/2022 20:42

Used to be 1600-1800 a year. Now it's just under 700.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 15/08/2022 20:49

About £30 in a year. On blonding kits from Savers. I cut it myself. Have done this for about a decade. Used to spend £45 every 6 weeks in my 20s and 30s. Getting it done at the hairdressers. Must have been fucking mad. Looking back, it didn't look any better than it does now. I think hairdressers try to convince people they can't POSSIBLY do their own hair. Many people can.

Peony15 · 15/08/2022 20:56

About £900 now.
Cut back to root tint and t-section + high/low lights every 8 weeks iso every 5/6 Used to get a blow dry every week as my hairdresser only charged £25 ( £ 90 for colour , £ 50 cut ) now only on special occasions.
Have very thick, long, wiry hair. Also use Kerastase products ( shampoo/conditioner/mask ) which are expensive but difference they make is amazing.
Hair is my biggest beauty expense.

MinervaTerrathorn · 15/08/2022 21:02

6 weekly haircuts, so up to 9 a year is £144, round up to £150 with shampoo and conditioner

Horcruxe · 15/08/2022 21:02

Spent £50
Getting it cut last year.

But generally just do it myself.

So 0

gingercat02 · 15/08/2022 21:02

About £350 pa. I only have a cut every 6 weeks or so. No colours or treatment. I get my brows waxed about 4 times a year but I spend a mad amount on skincare. Dread to think how much ☺

OnaBegonia · 15/08/2022 21:56

@Snozwanger
My husband would kill me if I spent what some of you do!
Surely you can spend your money on what you choose?

Snozwanger · 15/08/2022 21:58

@OnaBegonia I just think he'd be surprised if I suddenly started spending a lot on colouring my hair but at the moment he doesn't actually know what I spend.

Saracen · 15/08/2022 23:43

About £70 total for three haircuts

Clairejay34 · 15/08/2022 23:48

£520 (£60 every 6 weeks) first time I've added that up...it's a lot 😳

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 15/08/2022 23:50

About £50 a year on a few box dyes.
DD cuts it for free. I hate going to the hairdressers.

hellosunshineagainx · 15/08/2022 23:51

Around £800 a year
