How much do you spend on your hair a year?

We were doing a family budget and my biggest and really only personal expense is my hair. I think I am well within the national average for a 47 year old woman, DH thinks it's ludicrous (even though he spends equally on trainers and clothes). So how much a year does your crowning glory set you back?

OP posts:

£100 (2 haircuts x £50ish).

And then maybe another £25 or so on shampoo for a year.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/08/2022 07:35

Do you not buy clothes OP? Have any hobbies?

But anyway, I hope you come to agreement with your DH, but if you both get an equal amount of personal money, that's affordable within your budget, it shouldn't really matter how you spend it.

Our local top salon has a training day once a week so I can get a free cut and blow dry - I leave a £5 tip ... but get at least a couple of decent coffees or cold drinks so that's a bargain. I go four times a year. I used to go a training college but the last time the experience was not good .. no supervision at all and a 'couldn't care less' attitude.

Shampoo - £1 a month averaged over the year, don't bother with conditioner - never colour my hair - embrace the grey. Smile.

Whoopsies · 15/08/2022 07:38

I only get mine cut every 3 months so £120 a year. I couldn't really justify more on our budget, it's why I stopped dying it!

DilemmaDelilah · 15/08/2022 07:40

Around £190 including shampoo and product. I go to a barber and have it cut about every 6 weeks.

Baconking · 15/08/2022 07:41

Around £400

TenoringBehind · 15/08/2022 07:43

Haircut £30 every 6 weeks = £250 ish per year
shampoos and conditioner £9/month = £108pr year
moroccanoil curl creme and shine products approx £200 per year

grand total £560 ish

FuzzyPuffling · 15/08/2022 07:47

About £100.

emmathedilemma · 15/08/2022 07:49

£45 for a cut & blow 2 or 3 times a year. Aldi / supermarket shampoo and conditioner.

Smarshian · 15/08/2022 07:50

I have my hair cut maybe 3 times a year by a mobile hairdresser at £15 a time, and then maybe 3 times a year she just cuts my fringe for £5, so £60 total

ItWasntMyFault · 15/08/2022 07:52

About £160 - I pay £20 for a dry cut every 6/7 weeks

Blanketpolicy · 15/08/2022 07:52

Mid length hair, don't colour, around 6 cuts a year at £40 each, so £240

It will vary wildly, depends on hair length and whether you get a colour in the hairdresser. How much have you budgetted OP?

PollyRockets · 15/08/2022 07:53

About £200 a year

I get it cut every 4 months, highlighted twice a year

Annaritanna · 15/08/2022 07:53

1 haircut every 12 months plus products, hairties, clips etc....probabli around 75£ per year

Deux · 15/08/2022 07:57

Colour every 3 months at £70 a time, £210. Wash, cut and blow dry every 8 weeks at £65 a time, £420. I don’t spend much on products.

I use Faith in Nature shampoo and conditioner which I love and a bottle lasts me a couple of months. I try to buy it when it’s on offer in Holland and Barrett or Waitrose. Probs about £60 on products.

So grand total around £700. Hair is just at shoulder length.

Obi73 · 15/08/2022 08:00

13 x £60 for colour & cut every 4 weeks I’m moving from brunette to grey and I hate it!

Joico hair products bundles £50 every 4 months
£780 + £150 = £930

Lndnmummy · 15/08/2022 08:00

£1340

Raindancer411 · 15/08/2022 08:01

I have mine trimmed every three or four years as I like it long, so most is the time it's nothing other than shampoo from Tesco

RosesAndHellebores · 15/08/2022 08:02

About £1500. Mostly colour.

OldTinHat · 15/08/2022 08:04

Annual haircut, wash and blow dry is £35. Wash every three days with cheap Tresseme shampoo.

MuchTooTired · 15/08/2022 08:07

I’ve just started getting my hair done again like I used to before I had kids, except I go 8 weeks between appointments now rather than 6. Having just worked it out, it’s £975 a year for full head of highlights, toner, wash cut and blow dry.

Coffeekam · 15/08/2022 08:08

about £1200. Shocking really

Nothappyatwork · 15/08/2022 08:09

Are we counting things like replacing straighteners and hairdryers and all that sort of thing ?
colour wise I need to get mind of more often I only paid 150 last year for full head of highlights but in retrospect I look shit for 50% of the year so that needs doing at least once more often.

About £500 a year

RoseMartha · 15/08/2022 08:09

Abt £80 per year

KylieCharlene · 15/08/2022 08:09

Highlights/root touch ups - 6x a year so around £600.
Shampoos and products - £100.
=£700.
