Forgive me mumsnet, for I have sinned...

Lighthearted!

My sin: I went to a Wetherspoons whilst on holiday in England. Not once, but twiceBlush The food was great and I have 3 children with very restricted tastes in food. I'm the same so the menu suited us all. I feel bad about going there knowing the mumsnet consensus on the guy who runs Wetherspoons but it met our needs. I am a Catholic and feel like I need to say a few Hail Marys as a result.

What are your mumsnet sins?

i have a cockerpoo from a breeder, she’s adorable and adored
i don’t know where our cat poos. Probably the neighbour’s garden

How long was it before you noticed a difference / reduction in pain Flowersintheattic57? Is the difference enough to make it worth giving up cheese? (I love cheese. Also have arthritis)

BarrelOfOtters2 · 14/08/2022 07:34

Weatherspoons is great when you have to feed and water a bunch of people affordably.

MsTSwift · 14/08/2022 07:35

Also I don’t have a “running away fund” that I keep secret from Dh and I never intend to. I am not a character in a doom laden Barbara Taylor Bradford novel.

Wilkolampshade · 14/08/2022 07:39

@vodkaredbullgirl me too, and similar age kids.
Weirdly did give up whilst they were little but past couple of years things just crept back.

Here's mine:
Both my kids boarded.
I have no savings.
Or pension.
I don't shower every day.
I love watching telly and don't read books anymore.
I can't keep up with dental/optical/mammogram checks.
I have absolutely no idea what to do with what remains of my life. (am 54)

Georgeskitchen · 14/08/2022 07:40

I believe in children being properly disciplined from a young age. No smart phones under 18.
I believe Borstal should be brought back to deal with the feral kids. Restore the authority of teachers, the police and the courts. Parents: stop being your children's best mate.
Some of these horrific specimens are just short of a ruddy good hiding
That's the death penalty for me.......🤣🤣

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 14/08/2022 07:41

I also watch MMA (mixed martial arts ..u.f.c.) with my son who is 22 and really love it now I have learned all about it..

Wilkolampshade · 14/08/2022 07:42

Oh yes, forgot, don't drive either.

Definitely after a week but it carried on improving and after about six weeks I stopped using pain meds. Now I notice that milk is the worst trigger and a bit of cheese now and then is ok. Cheese was and is the hardest to give up.

We go to spoons all the time. We stay in spoons hotels if we possibly can, have spoons breakfasts and meals every day, up to 5 days in a row!

My husband loves the cheap beer and the reliable food. I love the free coffee refills, it's fantastic decaf.

I'd also like to go other places mind, but he really does like his spoons!

Buildingthefuture · 14/08/2022 07:44

I have a house full of rescue dogs. I don’t put them away when friends visit.

I think children should be banned from expensive bars and restaurants (to be fair, I only decided this yesterday after having my £20 cocktail ruined by two of the most feral little feckers I have ever seen)

I have a vast selection of toilet brushes in many colours, shapes and sizes

I would run naked through my village rather than go camping

I honestly believe that the vast majority of men are emotionally stunted fuckwits

Toast clothes all look like sacks

I would never buy clothes in Primark

I would never pay £60 for a bloody candle!!!

Smoke in the house, in front of my kids.

Poor kids. There are very few parenting choices I judge but that is definitely at number 1. Smoking tobacco/drugs in the house with kids.

BuzzBeeEmoticon · 14/08/2022 07:46

I would never use no as a complete sentence because it’s incredibly rude!

@AlternativelyWired As a convert, I think your thread may be idolatrous OP. 😀
I don't really believe in that sort of ethical consumerism, plus it's a luxury not everyone can afford. The 'right on' stuff tends to be more expensive.

So if you got food you enjoyed that met your needs and was a bargain, that's great as far as I'm concerned. Good for you. Smile

My Mumsnet sins- well I'm into Catholicism and I take that seriously, I don't pick and choose which bits I believe. So that means my beliefs (which I get from the Bible and Catechism) contradict a lot of MN-ers beliefs and the leftie ethos of the site. So I've had to hold my tongue (well, fingers) or I'd be quickly banned for following God in my beliefs.

I'm a born again Christian and definitely fall into this camp! Many of my views would go down like a lead balloon here. Interestingly most of my family and friends aren't believers and they are generally interested and respectful of my views. I don't get into them here but I do like being on Mumsnet as its important to understand a range of viewpoints and experiences. Reading about some people's childhoods, circumstances and subsequent opinions and choices can be incredibly humbling. I learn a lot from Mumsnet, even if I don't compromise my beliefs.

However, in the spirit of the thread, here's my tuppence:

I submit to my husband 😮
runs away very, very fast and hides

Usou · 14/08/2022 07:49

@picklemewalnuts

Spoons have hotels????!!!

SummerLobelia · 14/08/2022 07:51

I am very open that I a a MNetter. I even say 'Oh i love MN.' to people.

I took the Dcs to wetherspoons last week. The chicken was tender and tasty. The Dcs ate their pizzas AND the wine was well under £5 for a glass.

Quia · 14/08/2022 07:53

Tim Martin is a git, but the stories about him mistreating staff during the pandemic are nonsense. DNiece works there and was on full furlough pay each time they closed. She says the hygiene standards in the kitchen are really high, and though she's looked into getting another job she can't find another in catering which pays as well.

Freedomfighters · 14/08/2022 07:53

Thank you Flowersintheattic57.

I forgot another one - when DD was a newborn, I was in a cafe . I was knackered, my boobs were huge and leaky, I’d been eating cold food since she was born, I had had no sleep and just as a delicious looking full English breakfast food was put in front of me, DD started to fuss. Lifted her out her pram and a lady of about 65 at the next table gasped, reached her arms out and said “Oh my I LOVE babies, she’s gorgeous, shall I hold her while you eat your breakfast my love?”.

I did not do any of the following:

  • Call 101
  • Say no and school her on appropriate boundaries.
  • run screaming from the cafe while I reported her to the manager
  • Told her to fuck off
  • Karate kick her in the face and flee from the cafe, leaving the pram and my handbag behind as I went into hiding for a year.
Reader, I handed my baby over. And for the first time in weeks enjoyed a hot meal. DD was fine - the woman was with her friend and their husbands and her DH was very ‘FGS here she goes again, always wanting to cuddle babies, our sons live abroad you see and we rarely see our grandchildren.’ She told me I’d made her day, and I felt so happy for the rest of the day.

Oh I love that story. How wonderful and life affirming. Thanks

I used a toilet brush today

To brush your teeth?

MsTSwift · 14/08/2022 08:03

I handed my baby to a random man once. I was a new first time mum on a bus in London and it felt like everyone was shouting at me to fold the buggy but what was I supposed to do with the newborn while I did that?!

I have grey walls and a grey sofa ... forgive me 🙏🏻

Oh. So do I. Is that bad?!

duckme · 14/08/2022 08:07

I regularly hang my washing out before going to bed. I don't have the time in the morning before work.

I'm guessing it's a bad joke.
I agree though that's the one thing that makes my blood boil. It's just cruel and wrong.

Oh I love that story. How wonderful and life affirming. Thanks

I was in the park recently. It was a Sunday morning and there was a group of Ukrainian women who meet there every week. They Facetime friends and seem to have some kind of committee going on.

I was there with my baby who was 4 months old at the time. One of the ladies was cooing at her as my baby sat on my knee. My little one put her arms out to the lady, who then lifted her up. It was all so natural. The Ukranian lady held my baby in the most heartfelt embrace and closed her eyes like she was just enjoying the precious moment.

She cooed at her, and baby giggled back. It was so beautiful to watch. After a few moments the lady gave me back my baby with tears in her eyes and said 'thank you'. It was such a beautiful, special experience. I've tears in my eyes remembering it.
