Going to the supermarket straight from Parkrun

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 13/08/2022 11:18

I started doing parkrun last year, for most of the year I have been dashing straight home to shower quickly before taking DD to an activity and doing my weekly shop while she's there, but she has stopped the activity now so I don't need to rush. I do still need to get the shopping done on Saturday mornings though, and the start/finish point of the parkrun is across the road from the supermarket car park. It makes sense to me to go straight to the supermarket after my run but I feel a bit self conscious going round the shop while I'm sweaty. I do see others doing the same thing so at least I'm not the only one!

Is this OK? Or gross?

I’d do it. I’d feel gross but also seems pointless going home to go back out again.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 13/08/2022 11:29

I think its fine, you aren't near anyone for any length of time.

Now, if it was going to the cinema for instance where you are sat near others, then that's not ok!

DogWithMyOwnRoom · 13/08/2022 11:30

Very ok,
in fact sensible - and of course others will do same if Parkrun start is nearby

Maybebabyno2 · 13/08/2022 11:31

This is the sort of thing I would do and not thunk twice about. OP, no one cares.

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 13/08/2022 11:31

It's fine. I work a physical job and often pop to the shops on my way home.

ImWell · 13/08/2022 11:31

Totally fine. It maybe gets a bit unpleasant if you’d also not showered the day before, as you thought there was no point ahead of the run, so you are a bit, well, “fragrant.”

ClasslessLady · 13/08/2022 11:34

Sorry, but I do think it is gross though I wouldn't stare or make you feel shit about it.
Ideally you'd do your shopping prior or at a different time but I know sometimes it doesn't work that way.
I'm also the type who wouldn't go out in PJs and would think it's inappropriate to wear slippers and PJs in supermarkets so...

RudsyFarmer · 13/08/2022 11:34

Isn’t this what deodorant is for? I can sweat and not smell.

AuntieMarys · 13/08/2022 11:34

I do this twice a week!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 13/08/2022 11:35

I think it’s fine… I wouldn’t think twice about it being weird

LindaEllen · 13/08/2022 11:37

Just do it! Only stale sweat smells, so while you might feel gross, you won't smell if you've only just done the run.

Plus, you'd have more free time in the rest of the day if you get it done and out of the way :).

LunaAndHerMoonDragons · 13/08/2022 11:38

I wouldn't think twice, I wouldn't go home just to come back later, waste of weekend time.

SavingsThreads · 13/08/2022 11:38

I absolutley fine unless you're dripping on the food Wink

Fwiw research shows you make better food choices if you shop after exercise. Even if you just shop in exercise gear it helps!

I wouldn't think twice about doing this. I've gone to the supermarket after longer trail runs where not only am I sweaty, I'm also covered in mud. Like others say you're not close enough to anyone for long enough for it to matter

I do this every week.

CrapBag39 · 13/08/2022 11:41

unless you reek like a baboons arse afterwards it affects no one else so no one else’s business.

DappledThings · 13/08/2022 11:43

Of course it's fine. I wouldn't think twice about this.

liveforsummer · 13/08/2022 11:43

How long do you stay sweaty for? Outside of this heatwave (where lots of non runners are sweaty) I imagine it's not long. Fresh sweat shouldn't smell and nothing wrong with going round a bit flushed. Obviously if it's dripping off your head it's not really appropriate, but otherwise don't see the problem

Imissmoominmama · 13/08/2022 11:44

I go in after a long dog walk, in my wellies. I’ve seen people come straight from the stables (they do pong a bit though), and there are loads of people in gym and running stuff.

I think I live in quite a fit town though 😁

Coughee · 13/08/2022 11:44

I usually do this but I had to draw the line the other night after a VERY sweaty gym session where I was literally dripping sweat. The thought of dripping sweat on the produce and floor of the supermarket is grim and not really fair on the staff and customers

liveforsummer · 13/08/2022 11:44

I might not be the best one to ask though as I've been known to go shopping on the way back from the stables - that's a lot dirtier and smellier than a bit of fresh sweat 😆

LammasEve · 13/08/2022 11:47

I go shopping after running all the time, I do try to make sure I don't look like I'm about to die of exhaustion before I go in but otherwise, who cares what people think? I do trail running so I'm just as likely to be muddy as well as sweaty.

I would be more annoyed by someone who smells like they've bathed in perfume than someone who has just been exercising, I find strong artificial scents far more offensive.
