To think it’s actually okay to stay in during this heatwave?!

…Obviously not the entire summer but just for the few days where it’s meant to be low 30’s and there is heat warnings?!

I don’t cope well with the heat at all - feel sick, feel faint etc, our dog doesn’t cope well with being left shut in at home with the heat and wouldn’t cope walking on the pavements all day etc if we took him, so for a few days we are planning to just stay home.

Child has access to the garden all day long with a small swimming pool etc, but I’ve had a couple of comments that it’s unfair keeping her at home all day and we should be out enjoying the weather…

Am I being too precious staying in for a few days until the weather cools back down a bit?!

We go walking in deep woodland.

But do what suits you best. Free country!

I'm not the poster you were asking, but I love my home. I can't imagine getting bored at home. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy going to different places, but I would hate to think that I would get bored in my own home!

@Anonymous48

really? I find that really interesting. Especially after we were not long ago confined to our homes for months on end in lockdown can’t imagine now not going out for days and being happy with it and not bored!

I had a short walk to the chilled aisle of Waitrose this morning and have been in ever since.

Very hot weather is such a waste of time, hours through the day when it's too hot to walk, run, garden or whatever. I'm itching to trim a hedge but it's in full sun. I would be happy to start at 6 am but not sure the neighbours would be keen.

Well, yes, not being allowed to leave your home is one thing. I also don't have young kids anymore. But I can always find things to do at home to ensure I'm not bored.

@LuckySantangelo35 no not at all! At the moment I am wfh so home anyway but come the weekend I just hang out with dd or garden, read, sort the house out . I do yoga every day. Only thing that is different in cooler weather is that I might have a walk, but I haven't handled the heat at all (menopausal) so have stuck at home mainly inside with the fan on since it all began.

I can't particularly think of anything I'd do out the house ? I've seen my folks recently, and taken dd shopping . Nothing else appeals particularly . We're away soon for a week.

Have the dog here too (rescue who doesn't like walks, so lots of daily games here building up his confidence which we will take out and about gradually when it cools ).

I like travelling abroad so do that when I can afford it .

I went out today, waited until 4pm thinking the worst of the sun and heat would be over. JFC it was unbearable, the sun was beating down on me. DS being a skinny boy didn't suffer so badly, he had a whale of a time and he was swimming in the lake we live near.

The place was fairly busy when we turned up but it was even busier when we left at 7.30pm. That's the really pleasant time to go out.

70billionthnamechange · 12/08/2022 03:55

Totally up to you. I don't find this that hot because of the 40 we had recently so it's helped me in that I can handle 30 ish a lot better now. Everyone's different tho.

sashh · 12/08/2022 05:52

I'm hiding inside with fans and AC.

You child will thank you when she doesn't have sun damaged skin in her 20s.

FreezyFreezy · 12/08/2022 06:02

You can stay in when you like, for as long as you like, surely? There's no law saying that you have to take your children out of the house for a certain length of time each and every day, is there?! You don't have to ask for permission or justify yourself if you want to stay in the house.

Cervinia · 12/08/2022 06:18

I batten down the hatches when it’s like this and live in my cool, dark house all day.

windows currently all wide open to let the cool air in but all the blinds will be down by 7:30

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 12/08/2022 07:37

It's been horrific at work this week, community nurse. The uniform, the office, the car, patients houses all boiling. Typical I have another 14 hour shift today and sun/mon/tues 😭😭😭

Pinkjacket22 · 12/08/2022 09:07

I am doing this as well. Not unreasonable at all. I don't tan, maybe if I did I'd be out turning a deep mahogany colour. Consoling myself with the thought I'm saving myself some wrinkles. Grin
