To ask if you’d expect more food at this wedding?

We’re getting married next month and starting to have a panic that we aren’t providing enough food. Ceremony is at 2.30, so everyone will be arriving at the reception between 3.30-4 ish. We’re having a bbq starting at around 5pm

Bbq foods are as follows, and each person can have one of every item if they want to
Burgers
Hot dogs
Chicken skewers
Prawn skewers
Veggie/vegan options
Chips
Salad, coleslaw, potato salad etc

We've also got a cheese table with various choices, crackers, pork pies etc and a dessert table with cakes, brownies and donuts which are both coming out at about 8.30pm

Would you then expect another substantial food option with the cheese and snacks table, such as hot food or a buffet or something!? We're expecting the bbq to be done with by around 6.30, but they can keep going as long as we want them to, and the venue closes at 12pm.

Not everyone will have one of each thing, so if some have more it will be fine.

I agree put the cheese and desserts out 8.30pm, will be eaten more than if out with the BBQ.

GG1986 · 06/08/2022 18:54

Why don't you do the bbq, then at 8.30 do the dessert table and wedding cake?

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 06/08/2022 18:54

How will you stop the non-vegans/vegetarians eating the hallloumi/veggie options?

Badgirlriri · 06/08/2022 18:55

Would people really eat their dinner at 5pm and then eat pizza or more food at 10pm? Do you do this at home?

Surely if they get peckish at the end of the night they can get themselves a kebab/maccy’s on the way home!

Ottercave · 06/08/2022 18:56

Mist vegan cheese is disgusting plus do you have dessert options for vegans?

WeAreTheHeroes · 06/08/2022 18:56

I would push the food back to a bit later and serve some canapes with drinks on arrival. With the marriage ceremony at 2.30 that gives people time to eat lunch beforehand. Make sure the caterers portion up the cheese so it's easy for people to serve themselves otherwise there will be lots leftover.

I'd also ask the caterers to serve veggies and vegans first from the barbecue.

Avelora · 06/08/2022 18:56

@sunsetsandsandybeaches its manned by staff and we’ve told them how many vegans and veggies are attending. They need to let the staff know when they go up for food as it’s being held back for them

If I ate a meal at 5pm, then yes, I would want something else at 10pm. I wouldn't want to go from 5pm to the morning without any food unless I had no choice.

Ottercave · 06/08/2022 18:57

Ah. Why is there no edit button?

Most not mist.

I'm just thinking if a meat eater sees a vegetarian with a halloumi burger (for example), what's to stop them going up and asking for one themselves?

No wonder there’s so many “help me lose weight” threads on here!

Avelora · 06/08/2022 18:58

@Ottercave so we don’t actually have any vegans attending, but the caterer provides it as standard with veggie options so it’s there if anyone wants it. I have heard the same about vegan cheese tho so I can’t imagine it will get eaten!

We went to a wedding served like this and tbh a lot of people were hungry still because it was 1 of each item, some people only liked the 1 item so had 1 burger and nothing else.

Not a competitive undereater, but even after a burger (with roll etc), plus chips, plus coleslaw, plus potato salad, are people really still hungry?! And if they were, I'm sure they could force down a sausage or something...

I think it's plenty.. As PP have said, just stagger the cheese (which presumably comes with crackers etc) and desserts so they're served about 9pm to cure any drunken hunger pangs..

Avelora · 06/08/2022 18:59

@sunsetsandsandybeaches there are also spares of those, we’ve over catered for all options so it wouldn’t be the end of the world if some people did do that

OP posts:
FlatBottomedGirl · 06/08/2022 19:00

Sounds fine for quantity and lovely. I'd have the cheese table and pork pies served at 9ish because that's perfect picking food for later and doesn't go with bbq food anyway. Enjoy you day.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/08/2022 19:00

I would hold the cheese table till 9pm - stick it out then

So you're leaping to the conclusion that I'm overweight because I wouldn't want to go 14 hours without food?

You're a bit rude, aren't you?

Ottercave · 06/08/2022 19:00

Fair enough.

Are the veggie options going to be cooked on a different bbq to the meat options?

@cherrybonbons we can always ask them to start the bbq earlier, we just picked a random time but they will be on site setting up before everyone gets there, so they could kick off as soon as everyone arrives if that’s a better way of doing it

I probably would get the food going ASAP. It'll be an early lunch if wedding starts at 2.30. And then I'd do crackers and cheese, etc later on.

What is the plan for the wedding cake?

However I think some of them Orion sizes on here - expecting you to provide enough of everything so everyone can choose 5 hotdogs each and not run out, is a ridiculous waste of food.

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 06/08/2022 18:54

It's her wedding day - how do you expect her to do this, set up guards? OP said vegans and veggies will be served separately by the caterers. I think the initial question was a fair one, but beyond that, I'm sure everyone will survive. Some may eat more, some less. I've been to weddings where the food was a bit thin on the ground but we got something later and enjoyed the dancing and chatting.

Allybob88 · 06/08/2022 19:02

We got married at the exact same time and had a BBQ at the exact same time, I'm starting to wonder if it's the same venue 😂
We did Pizza and ice cream at 10.30pm and it all got eaten!!
