To ask if you’d expect more food at this wedding?

We’re getting married next month and starting to have a panic that we aren’t providing enough food. Ceremony is at 2.30, so everyone will be arriving at the reception between 3.30-4 ish. We’re having a bbq starting at around 5pm

Bbq foods are as follows, and each person can have one of every item if they want to
Burgers
Hot dogs
Chicken skewers
Prawn skewers
Veggie/vegan options
Chips
Salad, coleslaw, potato salad etc

We've also got a cheese table with various choices, crackers, pork pies etc and a dessert table with cakes, brownies and donuts which are both coming out at about 8.30pm

Would you then expect another substantial food option with the cheese and snacks table, such as hot food or a buffet or something!? We're expecting the bbq to be done with by around 6.30, but they can keep going as long as we want them to, and the venue closes at 12pm.

@hattie43 sorry but have you actually read any of my posts? It’s manned by staff who will be serving up whatever people ask for, someone can have 4 burgers and nothing else if they want to and nobody will be going without as there’s enough to make sure everyone has at least one of each option

So if someone has 4 burgers doesn't that mean there's not enough burgers for 3 other people

Sorry it is very confusing

Antarcticant · 06/08/2022 19:21

BBQ sounds great - I agree with pps, put the cheese and things out a bit later on.

Avelora · 06/08/2022 19:22

@hattie43 no, we have massively over catered on numbers to make sure that everyone can have as much as they want and nobody else will go without

I’d like some snacks later in the evening, could be just crisps and similar easy finger foods. Perhaps a candy buffet?

Augend23 · 06/08/2022 19:24

I think it sounds fine - let people know what the timings are before they come, they can easily fit lunch in before a 2:30pm ceremony (packed lunch if they really can't squeeze it in any other way). As long as they know dinner will be at a sensible time rather than the weird 3pm set up you get at loads of weddings I don't see a problem. Dinner is then at a reasonably sensible time. I wouldn't put the cheese and desserts out immediately after the BBQ - let them come out at 8:30 or 9 say and then I think it will be fine.

The key thing is people know what there will be so no one skips lunch thinking they'll be fed immediately after the ceremony.

Sounds fine to me.

burnoutbabe · 06/08/2022 19:26

standing in a 100 person long queue doesn't sound great fun so how will that be managed? so everyone gets served before anyone can go for seconds?

maybe have some food circulating amongst guests.

its also very messy food, will people be eating at tables with cultery and napkins? my nice clothes would be ruined if i ate burgers with sauces!

Avelora · 06/08/2022 19:27

@Jmommy oh yeah we also have a pick & mix table! Forgot to say that

Not a competitive undereater, but even after a burger (with roll etc), plus chips, plus coleslaw, plus potato salad, are people really still hungry?! And if they were, I'm sure they could force down a sausage or something...

I think it's plenty.. As PP have said, just stagger the cheese (which presumably comes with crackers etc) and desserts so they're served about 9pm to cure any drunken hunger pangs..

We had a choice of burger, sausage or salmon at 2pm and all there was otherwise was a sweet table, no salad, chips, coleslaw etc, for a really posh place it was grim.

imnottoofussed · 06/08/2022 19:28

Sounds plenty to me I'd be pleased if I was one of your guests. No idea what about half of the people on this thread are reading it's pretty straight forward to me what you've said.

Summary; You've got a bbq where anyone can eat whatever they want no limits, then after the bbq mid evening ish you've got a snack sort of buffet and desserts.

Plenty of food.

LilacPoppy · 06/08/2022 19:28

Yes you need more food just one burger one sausage etc is not enough. Also you need to do a cold buffet around 8/8.30

DarkDarkNight · 06/08/2022 19:28

I think people will get a bit hungry later, or need something to soak up the alcohol. Bacon or sausage sandwiches, or pizza as someone said earlier.

Avelora · 06/08/2022 19:29

@burnoutbabe the waitresses from the catering company will be letting people know when they can go up so the food will be fresh rather than all being cooked in one go and making people help themselves. There are tables, plates, cutlery, napkins etc. It’s set up so that people can take their food back to their tables, or they can stand if they want to

OP posts:
Avelora · 06/08/2022 19:31

@LilacPoppy its not just one burger or one sausage per person, everyone can have at least one of all the food options if they want to, or they can have 7 burgers and nothing else if that’s what they want to do

DipperandMabel · 06/08/2022 19:31

I would expect bacons rolls or roll on sausage type buffet for later on tbh

JuneOsborne · 06/08/2022 19:31

Sounds amazing. Your options are (I reckon)

  1. BBQ as soon as people arrive. Cheese, cakes and desserts at 7:00.

And maybe a pared down table of the leftovers for grazing on afterwards?

  1. Canapes on arrival, BBQ at 530 and cheese and cakes out at 830.
  1. BBQ at 530, cheese and cake 730, and maybe some leftovers like option one for evening grazing.
Leggingslife · 06/08/2022 19:32

Roll out the cheese board and dessert board a little later.. 8ish?

Staffy1 · 06/08/2022 19:35

That’s plenty. They would have had lunch before the wedding, so one evening meal is fine and that sounds like plenty per person.

duckme · 06/08/2022 19:40

PuttingDownRoots · 06/08/2022 18:09

I'd have the BBQ later... or put the cheese and desserts out at 8pm.

This sounds great!

Magicandspiders · 06/08/2022 19:40

You definitely need more than one per person. Lots of people like a couple of burgers etc. I also think it's quite early if you're not feeding them again. Normally you have wedding breakfast and then food in eve so if you're not doing this then you should consider something light even if it's tea and cake. Love the actual BBQ idea but more food needed.

Courtjobby · 06/08/2022 19:41

I think I'd make sure there was around 2 burgers and 2 sausages per person, so say 120 ppl , that's 240 of each. That way if say 15 ppl took 3 burgers each and 60 ppl took 2 each (165), there would still be enough for everyone else. Agree with overstocking the haluoumi.

All the extra left overs can be brought out later in the night and I imagine little wastage.

Favouritefruits · 06/08/2022 19:41

I think you’ll need something about 9pm even if it’s just sandwiches. Most people will have two burgers and maybe one other thing such as the prawn skewers I think you need more than 1 of each item. I would just choose the prawn skewer but take 2 or 3 depending on size if there wasn’t a sign to say just take one.

Leftbutcameback · 06/08/2022 19:41

As a veggie I've gone hungry at more than one wedding so best to ensure enough food for veggies, even if other also want that food (which is great of course!). Have you got any vegans? They might not be able to eat any of the buffet food (cheese, brownies etc).

It sounds fab btw, much better than some of the food I've had.

midgetastic · 06/08/2022 19:42

5 is not particularly early !

And if someone wants multiple burgers well not everyone will so unless there are less than 10 people there it will balance out

I would let people know then people who aren't happy can come prepared
