I think the silly bint should go back to where she came from.

Its a traditional nursery rhyme. I have no problem with sensible immigrants, but why should all English customs be given up.

God made pigs, I can understand why some relgious groups don't want to eat pigs, but why is the word "pig" a swear word.

staryatmonitoreyes · 20/01/2008 20:47

Reallytired- who said she wasn't English? Completely uncalled for I think.

and "Sensible immigrants?" dont get me started...

constancereader · 20/01/2008 20:56

Mmmm - that's what I meant by not reading anything into the actions of a madwoman. Her nationality and religion are irrelevant.

SSSandy2 · 20/01/2008 20:57

This is so odd

I mean ok Muslims aren't supposed to eat pork but I never heard of them objecting to the existance of pigs or the word pig

Izzybel · 20/01/2008 20:57

Staryatmonitoreyes - you took the words right out of my mouth! Are there no British Muslims? All the Muslims I have ever known are English! That was a bit of a silly statement imo.

discoverlife · 20/01/2008 21:03

Can I ask a queation as there are a few Muslims on here.
Why don't you eat or use anything to do with pigs?

IorekByrnison · 20/01/2008 21:45

Agree with constance. I've encountered plenty of crazy people on buses of all races and presumably religions. Please don't turn this in to a tabloid style muslim bashing.

littleducks · 20/01/2008 21:46

When i did a baby massage class the lady teaching did this little teddy, but the last teddy got a massage! i did wonder if that was because she was scared of offending me or they way she did it.

I think the woman was either mad or confused, it would in no way upset me if you did this little piggy rhymes with my child let alone your own.

IorekByrnison · 20/01/2008 21:51

That's funny littleducks - when I did baby massage the lady kept the little piggies in but cut out the roast beef in favour of a massage.

staryatmonitoreyes · 20/01/2008 22:01

Discoverlife- Im not Muslim but I believe that it comes form a time when food could not be kept (no fridges etc). Food like Pork didn't keep well in a warm climate and could cause illness so people didn't eat it and they was also considered low and dirty so it is forbidden.

Not a very technical explanation please feel free to correct.

The simplest way to tell you why muslims don?t eat pigs is that they are considered to be dirty because the roll around in their own poo! (tried to think of a more technical term but my brain does not work at this time of the morning ) so for that reason we are not supposed to eat any form of pig or have anything pig related in out houses, but 99.9% of muslims would not object to ?this little piggy? being sung to someone else?s child.

Reallytired- that was a bit OTT don?t you think, I?m a british born muslim so where do you suggest I go and what so you class to be a ?sensible immigrant?

Hmmmm.

My troll antennae is beeping.

Sorry, but this just sounds like a complete load of rubbish to me.

VictorianSqualor · 21/01/2008 12:18

I was in fostered lodgings with a Muslim family and they told me that apparently because Pork is one of the most poisonous meats people used to get ill from eating it more often partly because of storage problems and it stemmed from there.

I think it's to do with health originally - undercooked pork and something yucky. Liver flukes? or totally misremembering?

GColdtimer · 21/01/2008 13:01

On my baby massage class we had to say "this little piggy ate sandwiches" because some of the veggies objected to "roast beef"
