Changedmename7 · 04/08/2022 22:47

Name changed for obvious reasons
Need to ask if this swimsuit accentuates stomach or can notice a big belly?/big hips
Some comment today has triggered this and I cant seem to get a straight answer.
I know MNetters are brually honest and would rather hear truth than appeasement.

Your niece is:

  • a trainee
  • in a profession that aims to make women fit a specific aesthetic
  • for profit
  • in LA
Unless you also live in LA and want to compete with her clientele and don’t mind spending the requisite amount of money, I wouldn’t give two shits what she has to say about your figure!

This.

Thing is you asked.

She's given an answer based on the question asked as if being asked by one of her clients who is quite happy to look like a plastic size O doll.

You look fine in that swimsuit.

Etinoxaurus · 05/08/2022 07:14

Play stupid games win stupid prizes. As pp have said she ticks every box for a worthless answer. And then you’ve compounded it mithering your family and coming here for affirmation Hmm
This will 100% go over your head, you’ve shown that with your nasty description of her figure, but you do know it doesn’t matter?
What you look like should be waaay down your list of where you spend your energy.

Posting pictures online and getting people to comment on it isn't fair.
We don't know if that's you to start with.
Mumsnet threads sometimes pop up where people say they've posted a picture of someone they hate to get mumsnet to be harsh as revenge.
Plus it's not healthy mentally to get people commenting on bodies. Those with eating disorders may read some horrible comment saying 'you're huge' and they might be bigger or perceive themselves as bigger and cause harm to themselves mentally etc.

👏
No-one should be commenting on bodies.everyone has one they are all fine.
Threads like this will eventually only go one dangerous, harmful way.
There is alot of diet culture and warped fat phobic views in society atm and it's needs to stop, but will go on it's way on here, and op it might not be pleasant.
Everyone can be beautiful. But everyone deff deserves respect. And no-one should be judged or certainly not commented on the bodies. EVER.
God we have so much work to do on this shit.
You have a body.it is yours.what she does to her won't change yours.whst you feel about yoyr body won't change via you changing.its your mindset you need to sort out.
Commenting on her body means your doing exactly as she has done.judging it, putting her I a position based on size.
Of course your body, good have changed.you have become strong enough to carry, grow protect a child.but Jesus as woman we are told to care about how round or wide it's made us.and it's bad.why.why is it bad.

Cyclewidow46 · 05/08/2022 07:35

I think you look fab.
I'd be more than happy to have a figure like yours!

iloveeverykindofcat · 05/08/2022 07:37

real womans figure

Not this bullshit again.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 05/08/2022 07:52

@iloveeverykindofcat indeed. What is a "real" woman's figure I wonder 🤔

Campervangirl · 05/08/2022 07:54

Wit woo 😘
You look fab!

Changedmename7 · 05/08/2022 08:12

Firstly, the comment I made about her figure was in response to a few comments on size 0/skinny figures being the norm in L.A. Instead of replying directly to the comment I replied as generically just answering she is not skinny/size 0 at all. Didnt say that in a nasty way at all! I have 2 daughters and always embrace any figure.
Me, personally I am an ex athlete. I was always toned/muscly before kids and that is where my insecurities lie..I am not on about size 0 etc. I played basketball with a team full of women whose sizes varied from size 16 to size 8.
I am perfectly aware that being a bigger size doesnt mean you look good! I used to have a very toned legs from all the training I was doing.
My stomach I have noticed is definitely more rounder and protuding since having kids.

So hence the question being asled..new swimwear and wanting to know if stomach is visible. I am well aware my stomach is a proper mum tum..the question was is it visible in the swimsuit? What style would be more flattering for the larger tummies. Thank you to the posters that have answered honestly. Like I said when I tried it it felt very snug so perhaps it isnt a great choice. My neice however has only seen me in this and normal clothes which I try to dress in flowy dresses so stomach isnt visable so I am.guessing the swimsuit did accenuate stomach for her to make that comment if that makes sense! Not like shes seen me in the nude 😂

I cant be bothered to read through all these messages but, my opinion is whoever is wearing it looks amazing, looks very slim and i'd love to look like that in a swimsuit.
Not a big belly in site in that swimsuit :)

Not a big belly in sight in that swimsuit :)

TheOrigRights · 05/08/2022 09:13

Can you take a picture from the side?
Your stomach doesn't look flat - and that's fine obv, but if you want a smoother line then a suit that it's monochrome and tight over your belly might make you feel more confident.

Those ones which break up the colour with a single arrow shape seem to flatter.
I'll find what I mean.

TheTeenageYears · 05/08/2022 09:29

I think your niece needs to learn some diplomacy around people who ask a casual question and haven't walked into a surgeon's office actively seeking out treatment. You've had 3 children and are no longer a teenager so no you don't currently have the perfect LA figure but you have a lovely 'real' body.

FGS

its not her job to concern herself with people with eating disorders, or anyones to avoid 'triggering' any conceivable issue/phobia.

if it's someone else's photo with a view to getting nasty comments it's a massive fail isn't it.

🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

TheOrigRights · 05/08/2022 09:50

This sort of thing. However, this cut might not suit your top half so much.

WinterMusings · 05/08/2022 09:55

Your niece is young, an eager trainee trying to 'show off' that she's an actual adult with a job & she's from LA where part of her job is to make people insecure & feel they need cosmetic surgery. They'd bloody operate on Barbie!

As I said earlier though, I think other styles/colours would flatter your lovely figure more than a black one piece. So maybe try some others & then think about whether to send that (expensive) one back or not.

but 'hips' where??? I'd have been happy with you 'hips' BEFORE carrying 3 babies, let alone after.

Butterbean9 · 05/08/2022 10:06

oviraptor21 · 05/08/2022 00:21

You look fab.

The swimsuit draws attention down via your cleavage to the stomach area. Most men will probably stop at the cleavage.
If you don't want anyone to continue down then a swimsuit without a deep plunge would be better for that.

Jesus Christ.
Does everything in the world revolve around looking good for men?

Octomingo · 05/08/2022 10:09

Right, if that was a picture of me, I would see that as a big belly and I, personally, wouldn't be happy with it. I always thought a mum tum was the pouch that sticks out under the belly button, but that looks like I did at about 4 months pregnant second time round. You're clearly slim all over and I would say very similar to my shape, definitely wouldn't say a hip problem.

I think swimming costumes draw more attention to a bigger stomach too. Weirdly, bikinis, especially with higher briefs, don't.

And before everyone starts with the 'you must have an eating disorder ', I don't. I've never been on a diet in my life and I eat nice things.

ShirleyJackson · 05/08/2022 10:18

A big belly?!?

If it was a picture of me I’d hire a billboard for it. And the side of a bus. And wear the cossie to frickin’ Sainsbury’s.

A big belly. I ask you.

Ahh another 'wank my ego' thread.

Yes, I agree.

OP really don't have a "proper mum tum". Nothing sagging, no extra pooch of fat. You need a really good look in the mirror and a reality check.

hewouldwouldnthe · 05/08/2022 10:22

How can anyone tell from a forward facing picture? Looks good from the front, but you just can't tell unless side on.

Otherwise fabulous figure.

FartSock5000 · 05/08/2022 11:16

First, you have a knockout figure and I'd never have guessed you were a Mum of 3?! You look fantastic.

The swimsuit is not cut to be the most flattering on any woman. It isn't accentuating anything which is probably why she said what she said. Your top half is stunning but the low leg cut and empire waist are cuts that hide rather than accentuate or reveal.

She should never have said you need lipo/tummy tuck when she can't even see the full hip line and you flat stomach is completely hidden. That was unprofessional and a bit catty of her.

You look like a goddess and should be proud of your amazing body!

Marvellousmadness · 05/08/2022 11:22

You look like you are pregnant. But only like first trimester pregnancy. I look like 3rd term pregnant so id kill for your body 🤣

GoodThinkingMax · 05/08/2022 11:56

You look a wee bit pregnant, but you’ve got a great normal female figure. You could look much better if you attended to your posture. It looks as if you’re slouching which will always lead to an accentuated stomach.

Think: “navel to backbone” head up, and slide your shoulder blades down your back.

Pilates classes could help you with this.
