Does tummy look big in this swimsuit?

Changedmename7 · 04/08/2022 22:47

Name changed for obvious reasons
Need to ask if this swimsuit accentuates stomach or can notice a big belly?/big hips
Some comment today has triggered this and I cant seem to get a straight answer.
I know MNetters are brually honest and would rather hear truth than appeasement.

Does tummy look big in this swimsuit?

That’s a ridiculous dripfeed, even by MN standards. You asked a trainee LA plastic surgeon if they’d change anything, and they answered. Joke my (rounded!) arse!

Lesina · 04/08/2022 23:35

What does it matter? Your body is beautiful. Just go with it.

Does look “quite big” ?! What on earth… 😮 OP I’ve had two children and if I had your figure I’d be going to work in the bloody swimsuit! You look fantastic.

Yes, it does to me. And she asked...

I've had two children, my tummy looks like that, and I think it looks big. But I also think swimming costumes are generally not the most flattering things, and that women are meant to have rounded tummies.

Changedmename7 · 04/08/2022 23:38

Also, she isnt exactly skinny. She is very curvy/rounded - think Kim K hips/boobs so for her to point out my hips was quite shocking. She also later made another comment (maybe not directed at me) about when women have kids your figure will 100% be ruined because of the toll and physical changes etc.(sciencetalk) .again this wasnt directed at me but it was a casual comment she made later on which again made me feel even more conscious

You look like a woman wearing a swim suit that fits well and looks comfortable.
I thought at first you were in an office. I know it's warm at the moment, but that would be a stretch in dressing down. I think it's a gym changing room?

MummyofTw0 · 04/08/2022 23:41

You look lovely 10/10

But you're are being unreasonable for being upset when you asked a plastic surgeon wannabe x

I have these swimmers - find the stitching gives that "illusion" I mentioned.

NaughtyDaddyPig · 04/08/2022 23:45

Posting pictures online and getting people to comment on it isn't fair.
We don't know if that's you to start with.
Mumsnet threads sometimes pop up where people say they've posted a picture of someone they hate to get mumsnet to be harsh as revenge.
Plus it's not healthy mentally to get people commenting on bodies. Those with eating disorders may read some horrible comment saying 'you're huge' and they might be bigger or perceive themselves as bigger and cause harm to themselves mentally etc.

What’s the point in taking a pop back at her figure? She’s not the one asking for opinions on changing it. She told you what she’d change to give you the perfect LA figure 🤷🏻‍♀️
You don’t have a flat stomach. Or if you do, then that swim suit is definitely doing it no favours! And it’s fine that you don’t. But… when asked, why wouldn’t a trainee plastic surgeon suggest a tummy tuck, given that a flat stomach is the holy grail for many women?

It’s not “quite shocking” at all to point out your hips when you’ve asked her. Her hip size is irrelevant.

This is all coming from you and you were playing with fire asking her.

TeapotTitties · 04/08/2022 23:48

I definitely meant it as an offhanded joke

Come on now be honest, no you didn't mean it as an offhanded joke although you might've presented it as one perhaps with a little laugh.

You said yourself you're self conscious about that area, therefore you were hoping for reassurance.

Really not a good idea to expect reassurance from a plastic surgeon. You look great but in future perhaps think about not asking opinions from people in that trade.

So to give a professional opinion she has to be skinny? Confused

What next?

Health visitors must be parents?

Doctors/Nurses must suffer from the ailments they're advising their patients on?

Dentists must have perfect teeth?

You asked her the question wrapped up as a 'joke'. She doesn't need to be skinny to give the professional opinion that you sought from her.

RobertaFirmino · 04/08/2022 23:54

I wondered what 'a killer LA figure' is meant to be. The first article I came across was 'Kim Kardashian Shares Photo Of Stomach Tightening: 'Painful, But Worth It!'. Says it all really. Plus, I'll bet that a vast number of cosmetic surgeons recommend abdominoplasty to all mothers anyway.
FWIW you look fab. No need for any surgery at all.

MrsMcisaCt · 05/08/2022 00:00

"She isn't exactly skinny". So what?! Neither are you, you have a lovely figure, really gorgeous. The way the costume is shaped, it kind of looks like you have a slight 'mum tum' imho, but it doesn't make any difference - you look lovely.

Happymum12345 · 05/08/2022 00:03

I’ve been busy people watching on a busy holiday park in France. So many costumes and bikinis and so many different sizes. Some costumes are more flattering than others. I think you look lovely and I’m very jealous of your figure!

Tablechairtable · 05/08/2022 00:17

You have a gorgeous real womans figure. You don't need any 'work' doing.

Thank you to everyone. ❤ I am quite self conscious body-wise especially after having 3 kids. Feel my figure has completely changed. (Used to play national league basketball)

Just a bit if background....spent the day with my neice who is spending the summer here from L.A. She is a plastic surgeon trainee!! My uncle lives out there and shes decided on that career path. I jokingly asked her now shes the expert, would I need anything done in her eyes
(Was clearly an offhanded joke although maybe because she has been brought up in the USA she didnt get it?)
She replied (without even hesitating) yes you could do with a tummy tuck and just zip that bit in (points to hips) you'd have a killer LA figure!!!
Was shocked about her answer. My tummy/hip area are my most self conscious areas as I feel these have changed the most after kids. Just needed to know if its that noticeable thought it could be an umflattering costume which in that case will just choose not to wear it again.

Tell her to fuck off. Seriously. What a ridiculous comment

oviraptor21 · 05/08/2022 00:21

You look fab.

The swimsuit draws attention down via your cleavage to the stomach area. Most men will probably stop at the cleavage.
If you don't want anyone to continue down then a swimsuit without a deep plunge would be better for that.

Eyesopenwideawake

No, but your make up could be toned down a bit ;)

Eh? Her make up?? What can you see that we can't?

OP you look stunning!!

She's joking about the purple and blue swirls.

waterproofed · 05/08/2022 00:53

And this is how plastic surgeons make their money. They point out non existent ‘flaws’ and then offer to get paid to ‘fix’ them. She can do one.

Patriarchy is a scam.

My goodness...A 'Tummy tuck'??
She needs to wind her neck in.. Maybe take 30 kms off of it for starters.

You absolutely do not need cutting about.
Nothing wrong with your figure at all ..Major surgery? F&ck that.

oakleaffy · 05/08/2022 01:04

Edit Thirty Centimetres not 30 kms..Bloomin spellcheck.

Patriarchy is a scam.

I watched a ''60 Minutes'' programme{Australian} on you tube about plastic surgery , liposuction &c..it was grossly unhygienic and ''Proper'' Surgeons were quite frankly appalled by it.
Whistles were blown by nurses worried about cleanliness.
Ruptured livers, infection, human tissue spraying up the wall , way too much fat being removed from a person.
These charlatans really need to look hard at themselves, it's sheer greed.

TeapotTitties · 05/08/2022 01:09

She asked her professional opinion, why on earth would she tell her fuck off because she didn't like that opinion?

Ditto to the PP who said 'tell her to wind her neck in'.

I completely agree with @TeapotTitties and @Testina - you ASKED her what needed to be done to your figure, and now you're feeling offended so you're being bitchy about hers!! Yikes. That's pretty horrible OP.

I had a contraception check up years ago with a GP who was a very large woman - and I do mean really quite large indeed. She pointed out that I needed to lose a fair bit of weight for my health, and for my contraception to remain effective. And she was 100% right. The fact that she was on the chunky side too made absolutely no difference to the accuracy of the professional advice that she was giving.

I'm another one who absolutely doesn't believe that it was a joke. I don't mean this unkindly but you've posted a photo of your body on an Internet forum to get reassurance about whether you look good in a swimsuit. You have a mirror. You can see perfectly well what you look like. Without a side view none of us can tell whether your tummy really is a bit rounded or not.

There's lots of things I might say as conversation fillers but "do I need cosmetic surgery on my body" is not on the list of the first 1000 things I'd come up with. You seem to be the kind of person who needs to be told she looks good - hence this post - and I think that's why you asked your niece that question, hoping for compliments. Unfortunately for you, she's been honest rather than giving the ass pats you were looking for.

You've had three children, and yes, childbirth takes a toll on women physically. But you look absolutely fine. Lots of women would love your figure. But you know this already.... Wear your new swimsuit and relax.

sausage767 · 05/08/2022 01:48

I can also see what pp's have referred to in the tummy area, it may just be the swimsuit or the way you are standing. Honestly from that photo, to me you look like a woman with an amazing figure and a little baby bump. Sorry, but you did ask!
