What’s the most batshit belief you’ve ever known someone to hold

Ifyouwannabe1 · 04/08/2022 10:46

just met up with a long time friend (lovely, but utterly away with the fairies) who honestly believes the earth is flat as well as a whole host of other similarly crazy things. It got me thinking what’s the most batshit thing you’ve ever known anyone to think?

OP posts:
billycat321 · 04/08/2022 14:06

That you should not have sex once you know that you are pregnant as the baby might see 'it' and be traumatised for all of it's life
That Covid jabs are a trick to microchip us

SleepingAgent · 04/08/2022 14:06

@Chooksnroses check out Veronica's reply to someone else who didn't read it properly Grin

GrunkleStan · 04/08/2022 14:06

My octogenarian parents refused the covid jab because "bill Gates was in it for the money".

They then caught omicron and dad died of it.

ClaudiusTheGod · 04/08/2022 14:07

That putting a plastic plug substitute into a mains socket which opens the connection to the live supply is somehow safer for small children than leaving the socket alone. Those ‘safety covers’ override the U.K’s built-in safety mechanism. As soon as you put in the Earth pin, it opens the internal plastic covers over the live and neutral terminals.

biggest scam ever. But people will not be convinced.

That lockdowns could eliminate Covid

I dint think anybody ever suggested it would ,even in the very early days i distinctly remember Chris Whitty saying that it was a virus that would be with us forever
The whole point of lockdown was to flatten the curve ,so as not to overwhelm the NHS, and it achieved that .

That rh negative blood is a special bloodline descended from fallen angels and atlanteans rather than the rh positive people who are descended from monkeys.

I heard all of this when I mentioned having to consider rhogam injections during pregnancy (luckily didn't need them as DH is negative too). Apparently we are illuminati lizard people but I guess they must have forgotten to invite us to the meetings.

Ha! I'm O- which apparently makes me both an angel and an alien.

Not to derail but in Colombia they put cheese in hot chocolate, and it's delicious (and in Mongolia they put yank butter in coffee, which is not).

JemimaPuddlegoose · 04/08/2022 14:14

*Yak, not yank. Putting Yanks in coffee would be morally wrong.

j712adrian · 04/08/2022 14:14

The whole "Trump" "we were robbed" nonsense.

Linked to it ..... "COVID doesn't exist".

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 04/08/2022 14:19

'Healing' crystals, 'purifying' them in moonlight, waving burning sage around to 'cleanse' something, 'energies', 'spirits', etc etc

Just because you 'believe' a load of quack nonsense doesn't make it reality

APurpleSquirrel · 04/08/2022 14:20

That lemons were a cure for cancer & 'Big Pharma' was keeping it all hushed up.

That Covid was a worldwide conspiracy between all world leaders to control the population.

That feathers are signs from either deceased loved ones or god.

Alleycat1 · 04/08/2022 14:21

That Hilary Clinton is part of a cult that keeps and tortures children to harvest their adrenaline. The adrenaline is then injected into cult members to keep them young. Honestly believes that H C personally ripped a young girl's face off.🙄

alltoomuchrightnow · 04/08/2022 14:21

When Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, one online report had a typo and the date reported was from a couple yrs ago. (as in, right day and month, but from something like 2019)...
A batshit old acquaintance of mine decided to use this as proof for her conspiracy, on Facebook.
WS and other big name celebs had been mass executed several years ago. The reports we are seeing now , the gossip stories etc, are from before the execution. All this is well known in Hollywood circles apparently...
I asked her why they've had reliable witnesses then , seeing them out in public since...like as in, right now... and why the mass executions..she shut me down saying she wouldn't waste time explaining to me...then all her conspiracy friends came on to back her up...
I also asked, if the deaths were a cover up, why was the date not given as current, then..to keep fooling us all..she said it just slipped out..the 2019 date was wholly accurate and all the stories we see are at least a few yrs old...
Half of Hollywood had actually been executed en masse..

LarryUnderwood · 04/08/2022 14:22

I have an anti-vaccine believing friend who also thought the whole Bill Gates/celebrity sex abuse ring was real and they deliberately released covid to detract from the exposure of this to the world.

whydoesithurtsomuch · 04/08/2022 14:23

@NotSoSlimShady8 In a bit of a similar vein, when I was about 20 a fellow student asked me if we actually had any countryside in Yorkshire (they were from Hampshire). When I asked what they meant, in total seriousness they said that they thought it was all just factories and mills "in the North". We were at university in Scotland, but she seemed to think that a vast swathe of the country from just north of London to the border with Scotland was some enormous industrial wasteland.

Astrabees · 04/08/2022 14:24

That if you refer to me as "yourself" I'll buy something from you, whereas the opposite is true.

alltoomuchrightnow · 04/08/2022 14:25

My 'woo' friend claims to be able to manifest anything she wants in life simply by praying and chanting
Yeh love, that's why you are on FB right now with your gofundme, begging for contributions to your rent and bills..because you refuse to ever , ever work (too spiritually evolved for is the reason why... once spent three years chanting and receiving answers to the universe from an Indian Goddess, apparently.... It seems said Goddess has stopped providing , then??)

Riapia · 04/08/2022 14:25

That evolution has ceased and humans are the ultimate success.

alltoomuchrightnow · 04/08/2022 14:26

Astrabees , yes, and if they repeatedly say my name, while maintaining eye contact, I'll be conned into it too

jetadore · 04/08/2022 14:26

Doesn’t use a microwave because “radiation”.

alltoomuchrightnow · 04/08/2022 14:27

I don't mean saying my name on loop but peppering it through the entire conversation to give a 'personal friendly touch'...it's the one thing that will make me close the purse!
All the usual NLP crap.
As I'm well versed in it I see right through it. I don't mean it in itself is crap, but don't use it on me for persuasion!

Malbecfan · 04/08/2022 14:28

My sister is a flat-earther and Covid denier. She claimed that she didn't know anyone who had caught it - this was July 2020 when 2 kids I teach had lost parents to it. She has refused the vaccine because "all the vaccines use mRNA technology and I've never heard of it". My scientist DDs/DH pissed themselves laughing at her then patiently explained it to me and my father. When challenged about the "flat" earth, she said it's all on NASA's website. Like fuck it is! NASA claims the earth is slightly flatter at the poles but my sister believes that it is a disc surrounded by an ice wall. Even when I point out that as a family, we have flown all the way round (UK to W coast USA, W coast USA to Japan, Japan to UK) she says we're wrong. Despite living on mainland Europe, she voted for Brexit. Dickhead.

dangerrabbit · 04/08/2022 14:29

A relative of mine is a university lecturer who believes the moon landings were faked

alltoomuchrightnow · 04/08/2022 14:30

Ah yes the evils of microwave
When I had a stepson, his mother would ring him daily to check if I'd given him anything from my evil microwave. If I had , he'd have been collected pronto. (Lucky I loved that boy, as I had him all school hols! Would have been easy then, to plan his quick return! but no, I never used the bloody thing that goes ping..)

A friend's elderly uncle claimed that women wearing trousers contributed to an increase in male homosexuality, citing as evidence that he never saw may male homosexuals before women started wearing trousers.

People (both sexes) stopped always wearing hats in public around the same time 🤔....... I was a child, but it seemed to happen almost overnight!

😉
