Not often i'm speechless.

How is this buried within the news?! Should this not be headline?

It's beyond disturbing.

Those poor children

It will be a group of fucked up abusive adults and I hope investigations lead to just punishment for those concerned. What it isn’t is a ‘Satanic Ring’, however the perpetrators might have styled themselves.

Lockheart · 03/08/2022 16:12

Not everything can be headline news. There's a lot of shit we don't hear about. At the end of the day there's only so much space on a page or time in a news broadcast.

ImperioMarch · 03/08/2022 16:16

It probably will be headline news when the trial starts and evidence is heard.

Reading that it's a first appearance and all those involved are innocent until proven guilty in due course of law.

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/08/2022 16:17

bellac11 · 03/08/2022 15:33

Hiding it away to try to protect the perpetrators because of their ethnicity..... oh wait....

What do you mean @bellac11 and @myyellowcar?

picklemewalnuts · 03/08/2022 16:19

It looks like generational abuse- two of the accused are also being accused of neglect so presumably had parental authority, and one of the deceased has the same second name as the currently accused. There are likely to have been more DC involved, and some abusive adults who were abused as DC. Perhaps in a somewhat enclosed community?
The spectacular elements of it may turn out to be untrue.

We'll see.

anybloodyname · 03/08/2022 16:22

I cannot believe what I have just read , how awful for those poor children

Fladdermus · 03/08/2022 16:23

entropynow · 03/08/2022 16:04

Because like a lot of "satanic ring" moral panics, it's probably fake. Seriously look em up
But no doubt I'll be told to "hang my head in shame" by the hard of thinking on this thread🙄

I thought the same. But questioning a 'fact' that really does seem completely unbelievable is apparently digusting and sickening. So I'll hang my head in shame while the others gather their pitchforks.

It is shocking to hear that witchcraft is still practiced north of the border

Oh ffs, could you be any more dramatic? Witchcraft is not still practised north of the border. But cruelty and abuse is. Every day. North and south of the border. I hope the kids are well supplant the adults receive lengthy jail sentences.

User280905 · 03/08/2022 16:24

*I hope the kids are well supported

Correct, its just a way to frighten the children into compliance

I do remember the previous ones though and it was all a bit murky in the end as I thought that some of the children were later removed from their parents under new circumstances.

Whataretheodds · 03/08/2022 16:25

Im bothered by the BBC using the term "child sex" rather than "child rape", which is what it actually is.

OldFan · 03/08/2022 16:28

How could a child be stuck in a microwave? I think they'd have to be a premature baby to fit in and it's very unlikely.

I remember the Satanic Ritual Abuse blood libel of the 80s and 90s. A lot of the most lurid allegations were found to not have taken place, and a lot of innocent people were accused, most of whom weren't even Satanists or any kind of alternative religion.

Abuse is a crime, but being into alternative spirituality, including Satanism, isn't.

Also, Satanism isn't the same as witchcraft/paganism. If a pagan group involved in child abuse is found (which is rare) they are labelled Satanist in the press, when they're not, they're into witchcraft or Thelema (like with the Kidwelly cult.)

Calling them Satanist is untrue, sensationalist and libelous towards Satanism.

Obviously, abusers can be found in any religion, and if these have committed abuse I hope they're treated accordingly by the courts.

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/08/2022 16:17

What do you mean @bellac11 and @myyellowcar?

Each time child abuse is discussed, it is insinuated that abusers in rings dont get caught or prosecuted or the children are not believed because the rings are made up of men of Muslim/asian groups and the police or social workers ignore the children because of that. Which doesnt make sense because the examples given are of rings that were prosecuted.

And that the media doesnt report it or its hidden away because of a fear of looking racist

Despite that child sex abusers are made up from all manner of communities in the UK.

crwnhgow · 03/08/2022 16:30

Dotjones · 03/08/2022 16:07

The SNP are trying to hush this up because it doesn't reflect well on Scotland. Scotland has a terrible history with witchcraft (the British story of witches being persecuted is above all a Scottish one, though one wouldn't think it because the SNP do a good job of hushing it up), the last one being executed as recently as 1727, long after other countries ceased the hunt.

It is shocking to hear that witchcraft is still practiced north of the border and I'm not suprised - though disappointed - that Sturgeon & co. don't want this getting out.

I know mumsnet doesn't like NS but this is beyond ridiculous.

Eunorition · 03/08/2022 16:32

Honestly? Because it's a complete repeat of all the tropes of the scandal in the 90s where 'specialists' coached kids into reeling off stories of satanic rituals, animal slaughter and repeated attempted murder of the victim which were discredited. Their false testimony led to multiple miscarriages of justice.

I admit I'm interested to see what possible evidence they have beyond a child's account and a kiddie shrink with a weird agenda, but only because I thought we were getting better at putting hysteria and 'devils' behind us as a society. Almost all of the examples given in the news account match up with similar accusations in famous cases in the US in the 80s and 90s.

Also kids don't fit in microwaves. Plus, like the accounts of previous claimants, there's always many stories of attempted murder but no explanation for the adults apparent inability to succeed at it.

Anyway, it will be an interesting postscript to the Satanic Panic, but only that. Those kids have been coached.

RJnomore1 · 03/08/2022 16:38

It’s been reported on for a long time now

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9607773/amp/Second-paedophile-ring-suspect-dead-Grandmother-raped-child-dies-accused.html

you add the witchcraft and people panic though. It sounds drug fuelled.

Pretty much of a similar mind.

I suspect by the time the trial rolls around the whole ritualistic and 'satanist' part will be dropped in order to focus on the actual alleged criminality. You don't do yourself any favours by attempting to try someone on charges that are patently absurd, thanks to there being no such thing as the accusation you are making.

What the motivations were are irrelevant. It's a matter of whether anything criminal took place. Declaring yourself a 'satanist' and having a few of your buddies join in your wee 'circle' is not a criminal offence and is neither here nor there.

Absolutely right. I am seeing more and more of the use of the phrase “child sex” when it should say rape. Just sickening minimisation of a horrific crime.

A child was shut in a microwave and they sacrificed a budgie bizarre.

The second I saw that, I stopped reading. Go and look at your microwave. Now tell me the smallest possible child you could shut in there ?

I'm old enough to remember the Cleveland clusterfuck. And it's still not 100% clear (because it's cloaked in superinjunction after super injunction) whether all the children taken by social services were returned to their innocent family. There was talk of a court that ruled it was better for a removed child to never see their family (despite being totally exonerated) again.

I suspect the reporting is low key, as when the case progresses there will be increasingly hatstand tales coming out.

knackeredagain · 03/08/2022 16:49

Really shocking and horrible, but it is headline news. Youve linked to a BBC article and said other news outlets have posted more graphic content.

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/08/2022 16:49

I absolutely agree @bellac.

Mrsjayy · 03/08/2022 16:50

This was on scottish news recently maybe at the time off arrest ? I remember reading it, I definitely don't think Nicola Sturgeon is hushing anything up.

VioletInsolence · 03/08/2022 16:50

Witchcraft and satanism are not the same thing.

2bazookas · 03/08/2022 16:50

30 years ago there was a "satanic child abuse" accusation in Scotland which turned out to be completely false. But not before nine children were forcibly removed and allowed no parental contact.

Maybe people who remember the trauma those families suffered, are a bit more cautious before joining a witch hunt.

Lwren · 03/08/2022 16:53

One of the worst things the media do when it comes to children is use words like sex or say "breasts" when talking about a child, who don't have breasts or can have sex, it makes the victims sound older or consensual. Knocks me sick.

Many years ago I did a course and I was asked, "would you believe me if I told you winnie the poo or Donald duck raped me when I was a child?" I was a child myself and it really threw me, I was wondering wtf kind of person says that. They the man explained to a child being raped by family members, if they're wearing a mask of winnie etc, and believe that's who's raping them, who is going to believe a child or children saying such things?
Maybe this is a similar situation?
