Because society has moved on and people identify in different ways that don't always fit into the two categories. So look at how trans/non binary etc people can be include without taking away from others. So maybe instead of mens/womens sports are mixed or based on height/weight etc depending on what the sport requires. That way everyone gets to be included.

Do you know what happens if sports are mixed?

Men aged between 18-30 win everything. It has been my observation over years of amateur sport that athletic, emotionally unintelligent men aged 18-30 are happy with this idea. Then they hit their 30s and suddenly want there to be a category for men over 35, so they can continue winning. Odd that...

And no, weight categories will not sort this. If you think it will, undertake to let a 65kg man and a 65kg woman punch you. Men punch 160% harder than women. Or to put it another way, with more than 2.5 times as much force.

@babyjellyfish the laws that protect trans rights (in uk)

Competing in sporting categories for the opposite sex and attending single sex rape therapy sessions for members of the opposite sex are not "rights".

Alfenstein · 04/08/2022 12:44

Ooo a goady thread where the OP hasn't returned designed to rile up the FWR lot on here.

Yawn

autienotnaughty · 04/08/2022 12:45

Those laws allow them to do those things. What we need to do is look at how trans people can be accepted alongside protecting women. So the laws/societal beliefs etc need to be better. To ensure women are protected and trans women are protects.

babyjellyfish · 04/08/2022 12:46

There's nothing batshit about defending women's rights.

@autienotnaughty The law allows organisations to provide single sex spaces and sporting categories, to the exclusion of even trans people with a gender recognition certificate, which most trans people do not have.

Organisations like Stonewall lobby hard to prevent organisations from using that exemption, meaning that the law as it is - which is designed to protect women's rights - is not being applied.

Trans people don't need more rights or more protection. They already have more than everyone else. Women are the ones being screwed over here, and women have had enough.

Have you ever seen what happens when an adult man collides with a female non-binary person in a training accident? (The accident being that he thought female person was a teenage male player.)

The same as when he collides with any other female human of that weight.

And then we had to call the first aider.

autienotnaughty · 04/08/2022 12:58

@babyjellyfish we all need protection it doesn't have to be an "us and them"

autienotnaughty · 04/08/2022 12:59

Women can be protected and trans women can be protected one doesn't have to cancel the other.

To translate ...

Pipe down now ladies, no one's remotely interested in your views. Quit wittering on about your rights and concentrate on becoming the good handmaidens we all know you can be.

TheKeatingFive · 04/08/2022 13:05

There's absolutely no problem with Transwomen being accepted, so long as sex specific spaces and rights are protected.

babyjellyfish · 04/08/2022 13:17

autienotnaughty · 04/08/2022 12:58

@babyjellyfish we all need protection it doesn't have to be an "us and them"

Unfortunately TRAs have made it into an "us vs them" situation with their wholly unreasonable demands.

If you think trans rights includes the right to redefine women as a "gender identity" without our consent, and the right to access all women's single sex spaces and sports regardless of what the law says, you have placed trans rights, or to be more accurate, trans demands, in direct conflict with women's rights.

You can't include trans women in women's sports without compromising safety and fairness for female athletes.

You can't house trans women in women's prisons without compromising the safety and dignity of female prisoners.

You can't grant trans women free access to all women's rape therapy groups without depriving female rape survivors of the single sex support they so badly need.

It didn't have to be "us vs them". They have made it so, not us.

And now many women, like me, who have spent years respecting people's identities and using their preferred pronouns and believing it is important to be kind, are thinking, "Fuck this shit, enough is enough. Our rights are equally important."

TheKeatingFive · 04/08/2022 13:20

Also I can't imagine how triggering it must be to be a transwoman and read about people denying your existence and identity

No one is denying anyone's existence and as a general rule of thumb if you have to resort to hyperbole, your point lacks any validity.

The only people whose existence is being denied is female people. We are the ones who are no longer even allowed to have a word for ourselves.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/08/2022 13:35

I quite agree. But women sometimes need protection to include the absence from a space of all males, including MTF trans people.

So if you're not acknowledging this, you're being disingenuous about what is actually being asked for. In those cases it is a zero sum game.

Someone isn't going to be happy, because there is no way to accommodate males who demand to be in all women's spaces to be validated as women, and women who need a female only space for safety and privacy.

StillHappy · 04/08/2022 13:39

FangsForTheMemory · 03/08/2022 15:11

One of the things it means to me is recognising that trans women are actual women and that they should be treated as such and supported by all women.

I think that a trans woman is a man, and that the law must reflect that.

If he’s a man who likes to wear dresses and be called Felicity I wish him the best of luck.

I don’t call myself a feminist; I strongly support and work towards sexual equality, but just don’t choose the label.

MbatataOwl · 04/08/2022 13:41

Women can be protected and trans women can be protected one doesn't have to cancel the other

How? You can't do by weight or height as the physiological differences between the two sexes are massive.

MbatataOwl · 04/08/2022 13:44

Transwomen should compete with other males, transmen with other females (providing no testosterone).

I don't care about feelings, I really don't. I care about fairness, safety and opportunity for women and girls (the female kind).

I just believe that women's feelings matter just as much as trans women's.

Someone who was born male but believes they are female, identifies as female, appears as female, lives their life as a female etc

Did you really not understand that or were you being facetious?

I don’t think that any male appears as female by adulthood; we look really different.

I know that online pictures can have all sorts of things done to them with filters, but when you see a person in real life it’s not the same. We stand, walk and sit differently. We have different faces, voices and bodies.

Normally so would describe someone believing that they are something that they not as having a psychological or neurological condition, such as when someone very thin believes that they or fat or when a person believes that a limb does not belong to them.

Are you saying that being trans-sexual is different?

MbatataOwl · 04/08/2022 13:49

I just believe that women's feelings matter just as much as trans women's

Each to their own. I care not for any man's feelings when it comes to them being given access to womens sports and spaces.

To me feminism is about protecting the hard-won rights of women which my mother , sister, aunts and I have all fought and struggled for.

I will never surrender those rights to someone who thinks penis trumps uterus.
