Neighbour hates our hot tub

We only bought our hot tub yesterday and set it up, kids been in it this morning from 8:45. Neighbour was round within 30 minutes she thinks it’s an absolute joke it’s too noisy she can barely hear herself think apparently. She is so much younger than us but miserable as hell!

she is quite nosey and is always on the street when any drama is going on with any of the neighbours so I kind of expected it.

of course I wouldn’t put the bubbles on at night (as much as I’d like to) so have told the kids only in the day.

we will probably only use it a few times a week.

Aibu what do I do?

8.45am - I wouldn’t be your friendly neighbour either.

i get it’s summer holidays but some of us work from home and listening to screaming, squealing and shouting from 8.45am would top me over the edge.

Who said screaming, squealing and shouting?

blanchrspot · 01/08/2022 20:06

Where do people live that that a hot tub is the nosiest thing? I barely hear my neighbours or the kids over the blooming din of drills & building work & it starts at 8 😭

Pixiedust1234 · 01/08/2022 20:07

Op, you haven't responded to my post. What does it sound like when in her house? Sound can get amplified so it could be louder inside her house than outside.

Are all your neighbours up early?

They are now.

They are now.

No they're not. 8.45 on a weekday is far from early.

LunchPoems · 01/08/2022 21:37

So @Sleepregressionqueen why did you get it when you knew it would upset her?

TheHateIsNotGood · 01/08/2022 21:51

After many months of hearing 2 generations of blokes shouting bullshit at each other in a neighbouring hot tub (wags hiding in the house) I finally politely asked them to keep it down and got a 'mouthful' for my efforts.

I thought they had ramped it up when I heard even louder shouting - but must have been some other neighbours less politely telling them to stfu and the wags getting some words in too.

Over a year later the hot tub is still not used.

It's not the hot tub - it's the ever-increasing shouting that its usage creates.

You really shouldn't be turning it off at night. That's why the constant humming annoys people. Turned on 24-7 but used a few times a week costs about £1000 a year to run. Your maintenance and cleaning costs will go up if you turn it off over night.

It does not cost £1k per year to run 😂

That seems a little bit early for kids to be in a hot tub and making noise, would hate to live beside someone with one as they are soo loud. You seem to really dislike your neighbour and to take pleasure in upsetting her so that could be half the issue. Try to be more considerate of the times you use it not too early or too late and it should settle down.

LimboLass · 01/08/2022 22:17

Congratulations on your new sex pond.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 01/08/2022 22:25

The family next door had a large pool for the bit of a heatwave we had a few weeks ago and it was lovely to hear them playing and having fun but that was afternoons and not at early hours and now it is gone as weather had changed and no humming to listen to so a big difference. With Electric prices going though the roof do not think many will be using hot tubs so much.

SavingsThreads · 01/08/2022 22:25

@Youcancallmeirrelevant that was for electricity, maintenance, servicing, water care etc. If properly looked after they certainly do cost that.

Itisasecret · 01/08/2022 22:28

Hot tubs are so chavvy. They are really annoying too. They hum constantly and the cheap pumps that come with the blow up ones are loud.

Children playing in hot tubs before 9 am is not only rude it’s really dangerous. Hot tubs shouldn’t be used by children as they can’t regulate their temperature like adults and it can cause issues (hence all the warnings)

Ick all round really.

Mine definitely doesn't, water care is easy and cheap with chlorine granules, and once they are up to temp ours costs around £5 a week extra electricity to run. Water is barely anything, it only gets filled up/water replaced twice a year.
Ours cost us max £500 last year and expecting same this year

Gazelda · 01/08/2022 22:40

The only good thing about my neighbours' hot tub is that the noise drowns out the sound of their fucking windchimes.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 01/08/2022 23:02

haha Gazelda that made me laugh

SavingsThreads · 01/08/2022 23:13

@Youcancallmeirrelevant so you get the filters changed yearly, have it regularly serviced, get it drained down etc? I suppose without that it's cheaper.

SavingsThreads · 01/08/2022 23:13

*do you, not so you.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 02/08/2022 00:02

@Itisasecret you know you can control the temp so it’s fine for dc? Okay a 3yo may not be a great idea but dc come in a variety of ages and mine at 11 and 14 love ours. It was here when we moved in and has provided hours of fun. It means we all talk with no devices in sight.

i think our definition of chavvy varies but if you mean happy people enjoying our garden then I guess we’re chavvy - rather that than a miserable snob quite honestly.

BigChesterDraws · 02/08/2022 02:00

Sleepregressionqueen · 01/08/2022 12:23

Can I ask why people think their tacky? I absolutely love it think it’s so relaxing especially on an evening even without the bubbles. Kind of expecting the electricity bill ours is very low though we pay £105 a month gas and electric so ok if it goes up.

It’s usually the cheaper, inflatable/portable models that people find tacky. The built-in, permanent ones maybe not so.

Forestgate · 02/08/2022 02:03

They are very noisy

845 is too early

larkstar · 02/08/2022 11:03

It's selfish and inconsiderate - you should have looked into it more before you bought it and should look at ways to minimise the sound. The neighbours can fill in a log of times when they have been disturbed by the noise and file a report to the local council. Some people work nights and sleep through the morning, some people have young children they want to get to sleep, some people are ill, some people are very sensitive to noise. If you live near to other people you ought to be aware that not everyone's life and daily routine runs the same as yours.

Mines inflatable, so filters get changed once a month when they need it, drained down i've already said normally only needs doing once maybe twice a year, which is essentially pull the plug then fill back up with a hose, the chemicals are cheap to buy and easy to use 🤷🏼‍♀️
