Haunted house scaring the shit out of me

Goawayghosts · 31/07/2022 22:23

Deliberately OTT title and I’m not into the paranormal but I’m getting freaked out in my house.

We’ve lived here 10 years. The house is only 20 years old. Built on marsh land.

A year or so after we moved in weird shit started happening. Stuff moving around, noises, dog going nuts in certain rooms, doors opening by themselves etc. DH got freaked out by it and started getting angry at me everytime I mentioned it. He outright refused to discuss it but admitted he had seen and heard the same stuff as me.

Then it all stopped. Nothing happened for years. All good.

Then, a couple of weeks ago I was messing on my phone and behind me I saw a shadow go past in the hallway out of the corner of my eye and heard it brush along the wall. The dog (different dog) flew over me barking and growling, all heckles raised. Back door was locked, there was no way anyone could have got in without me (or the dog) hearing the front door. I sent the dog around the whole house - nothing at all. I put it to the back of my mind but ever since the noises have started up again - footsteps on the first floor, doors opening and closing, muffled voices

DH has heard it too and is laughing it off saying the ghost is back but he too is randomly sending the dog into rooms and upstairs before him and telling me not to be stupid when I mention it. It’s seriously starting to freak me out.

It happened again 10 minutes ago … the sound of the floorboards creaking upstairs in the pattern of footsteps - DH looked up and muted the TV - then the sound of something being moved. I said “You’re not telling me you didn’t hear that?” And he said “I’m not getting into this shit again” and turned the TV up.

it’s a detached house, we don’t have neighbours. WTF is it??

You cannot answer a simple question like- who accredits mediums

I can answer that easily, but I choose not to as you obviously wouldn't believe it anyway. Plus my name isn't Google. I'm quite sure you are capable of looking it up for yourself & making your own mind up. You can guarantee though, that if they are asking you for big bucks. They are not accredited

& yes I have been deliberately facetious here, but that is in response to the usual flocking in & attacking anyone or anything "woo" as ridiculous, delusional or whatever.

You do know that alchemy was the forerunner of modern chemistry, right? Right?

There was much more to the alchemists than the supposed quest to find the elixir of life and turn base metals into gold. I suspect that the suggestion of those things encouraged rich people to fund the real work, which was proper scientific investigation! Those people working in labs and discovering things we now take for granted were not occultists.

Hence Isaac Newton’s interest in alchemy. The man was a scientific polymath. Why wouldn’t he have been interested in chemistry?

Patronise much?! Newton also studied Biblical interpretations, The Book of Revelations, The Temple of Solomon, Atlantis, Rosicrucianism, and believed he had the ability to communicate with angels or spirits.

"Newton was not the first of the age of reason, he was the last of the magicians."

You won't name the accrediting body you believe is legitimate because you know that of anybody looks into it they will point out that it's not. By leaving it unsaid you provide ambiguity. It's very transparent.

Yes I know you are being deliberately facetious and I have already explained why. You clipped it out of your response for obvious reasons.

You crack on reading my mind @Miffee

Oooo, perhaps you are more woo than you realise

Or not 😂

As I said, scariest part here is my logical partner who does not believe in the paranormal is starting to be freaked out. Only yesterday we were sat downstairs and three glasses on back of upstairs unit smashed, no idea how they moved.

There are many boring and mundane explanations for spontaneous glass breakage including thermal stresses and flaws in the manufacture of the glass.

Yep, items such as glass shower screens & oven doors can suddenly shatter for this reason

@Miffee is certainly reading my mind. Putting into words exactly what I'm thinking 🙂👍

No surprise their @leisurelystroll 😉

I'm done with the buzzing gnats now. I'm out & will only reply to sensible non antagonistic posts. Enjoy your day 💐

You could have named them 10 times by now. Yet you insist on expending effort on inane (and ineffective) attempts at insulting me.

I don't need to read your mind. Your posts are very transparent. You are upset and lashing out because you can't answer in a rational and reasonable way. You can't do this as there is no rational and reasonable answers available to you.

Prove me wrong? Ah but you can't. Never mind just say its because I'm demanding and you're not Google. That's a ruse surely nobody will see through.

Stop engaging with me? Well then I will think I've won won't I? I'll do you a favour, when if you respond with no substance just faux patronising snark I won't bother responding to you anymore. Then you can go on your merry way believing you outwitted the skeptic with your top notch debate skills. Hope that helps.

Is that sensible posts that contain things like 'my floorboards are creaking upstairs but there's nobody else home'.😉

CounsellorTroi · 01/08/2022 12:36

Before we had the bathroom completely gutted and redone, there was occasionally a distinctive smell of depilatory cream. Which I didn’t use at the time and had none in the house. I assume a spillage had occurred at some point which was absorbed into the floor/wall and got released now and again when environmental conditions were right. But it stopped after we had the bathroom redone. Either the material releasing the smell had been taken out, or the previous occupant had accepted it was no longer her bathroom and had moved on. Take your pick.

Vincitveritas · 01/08/2022 12:36

@Mummyratbag Not sure how to do that but if you put it into the search bar it should come up.

@SammySammySammytheBetterfly The Holy Trinity absolutely is (or at least should be) part of the faith. Henry VIII is one of the reasons I don't attend a C of E church. I don't like to speak ill of the dead, but he was a pretty bad egg.
The Protestant movement actually officially began with a Priest called Martin Luther (not King, different one). He wanted to break away from the ridgid dogma and excesses of the Catholic Church. Essentially he believed that nobody has the right to intercede on God's behalf (including Priests), that the Bible is the source of authority as God's word and salvation is only achieved through faith and not human works.
I would argue that it's the CC that's strayed away from biblical teaching over the years. I won't get into the debate about male and female ministers here.

I'd like to think that Richard III, wherever he may be, is just happy that his body has been given a dignified burial and his soul is now free from the constraints of man-made religion.

Thats the ones, you do those and I'll lookout for the wacky ones like 'a person died upstairs before they finished their extension and now my paint pots keep moving around, do you think it's a ghost that cannot rest until the extension has been finished?'.

Positivevibes2022 · 31/07/2022 22:51

You’ve not witnessed it with your own eyes I’m assuming? Which is fine, but I have.. all of my family members have and my friends when visiting. Just because you have never witnessed it - doesn’t mean it didn’t happen hun 😂

The hun at the end!

Did the ghosts knock over your wax melts?

I hope you don't mind me asking a random question but you seem very knowledgeable on the subject.

In terms of things like consubstantiation and transubstantiation did the CC change it's mind after Luther etc al split off or did they change it?

RockinHorseShit · 01/08/2022 12:47

Sounds good to me. Smile

Honestly nobody actually wants to deal with with "woo" even when they believe in it. It's bit like changing a dirty nappy, it can come with nasty surprises. Somebody has to do it though & for the genuine ones I've known, it's more of a vocation. I agree there are a ton of charlatans though & there's most often a rational explanation

Was it New Ellerby by any chance?

I used to live in New Ellerby when I was a little girl!

Iamthewombat · 01/08/2022 13:20

I’m highly amused at the attempts to describe noted scientific genius Isaac Newton as the poster boy for woo. Leading to, naturally, “take that, you scientific spoilsports! NOW you have to believe unquestioningly in ghosts and ‘astral plains’ (sic) and not ask for evidence!”

Poor sod. He thought that his Principia Mathematica would be his legacy. Instead his legacy has been hijacked by people whose beliefs are the opposite of scientific.

Vincitveritas · 01/08/2022 13:28

@Miffee No problem. Not sure about consubstantiation but transubstantiation is still central to the Catholic faith today. Protestants agree that the bread and wine don't literally turn into the body and blood of Christ when consumed. That's not to say it's not special or important though. Communion is done in memory of Jesus' suffering and sacrifice on the cross, is a regular part of worship and also represents the church being part of one body. There's many branches of Protestants, namely; Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, Lutheran, Quaker, Amish, the Free Church and the United Reformed Church, among others. All differ slightly in the applications of their beliefs but the beliefs fundamentally remain the same.

IrisVersicolor · 01/08/2022 13:29

This is all very simplistic @Iamthewombat and rather naive.

It’s not a question of belief, it’s a question of experience. And technically I’m a scientist by training.

If you have no patience with OP’s issue, then why post on this thread other than to draw attention to yourself and chase ego kibbles? Why not just start your own thread?

I lived in a bedsit in 1980/81 that was haunted, by what who knows. Started off with things like the kettle lead unplugged and tidied up, instantaneous water heater switch, turned off, not by me, other stuff I wont detail. Maybe I was sleep walking, but I dont think so, landlord eventually, after months of denial and laughter/ taking the mickey, admitted my room and the one next door had a "presence".

I grew up in the 80s and every christmas morning my brothers and I would wake up to random presents just left under the tree, no explanation. My parents, eventually, after years of denial and laughter/ taking the mickey, admitted that a man named Santa Claus was bringing them to us.

SammySammySammytheBetterfly · 01/08/2022 13:46

@Vincitveritas

Why even bother drinking the wine and eating the bread though if they aren’t the body and blood of Christ (or at least representative of such)?
It’s just a hollow imitation of Catholic practice without meaning. The reasoning of the church being one body makes little to no sense and seems like hollow justification to keep a ritual going that they don’t believe has actual meaning.
