Screaming child in tent next door

Sittininafield · 29/07/2022 05:07

AIBU to think the parents are selfish knob heads. Fourth night in a row. Toddler screams from 10.30 till 11.30 ish every night and then periodically every couple of hours. Not sad baby crying but toddler tantrum screaming and shouting. I am beginning to think it is the spawn of satan. Why would you go camping if your child doesn’t sleep, and why wouldn’t you go home out of consideration for others after a couple of nights? They are quite now but I’m awake since the last screams at 3.30. Should I go and shake their tent in sleep deprived, demented re-wenge?

When your walls are made of plastic it's unreasonable to expect to not hear conversations, drunks, laughing, sex, and babies crying. Next time take some ear plugs!

CourtneeLuv · 29/07/2022 05:46

When your walls are made of plastic, it's incredibly unreasonable to stay there with a non sleeping tantrumming child.

Mindymomo · 29/07/2022 05:55

I feel for you, can you move tents.

cantcomplainabouttheweather · 29/07/2022 05:56

I'm on holiday currently - not camping though! And my toddler has been very unsettled - it wasn't expected at all though - they sleep fine at home! . So it's a bit unfair of you - no one really knows how young children are going to be when taking them away for the first time. That being said if it was that bad I'd have put them in the car and sat with with them to try and minimise the disruption

Getintoyou · 29/07/2022 06:00

I always think this when I see the threads about people taking babies camping. I'd have to go and say something. If it was my child I'd put them in the car and get off the site. No way would I subject others to that night after night.

bumblebeessarecool · 29/07/2022 06:23

And the snoring! Just back from camping and we could hear the man from 100m away snoring in our tent! Why would you go if you snore that loudly!

Bournetilly · 29/07/2022 06:26

I would be annoyed but their toddler might sleep well at home and their schedule has been disturbed.

It might be the only holiday they can afford so they don’t want to leave. If it was me I’d probably leave though.

Can you ask to move tents?

Twiglets1 · 29/07/2022 06:28

Why would anyone go camping in the first place is the question that puzzles me

doodlywoodlydingdong · 29/07/2022 06:31

Had nobody on this thread ever heard of ear plugs for camping ?

And you would get up and leave the camp site would you? Middle of the night? If I opened my car (Tiguan R line) the campers directly in front of it and for the next 30 m would be delivered a free intimate X-ray by the hideously bright xenon lights. Not only that but the light system then cycles through its "start up" mode that takes about 25 seconds and involves flashing, side lights and is basically a silent disco. I don't have the option to leave my car open without lights, so would be what, trying to pack a tent away with a screaming toddler and a car that can be seen blowing from out of space? I bet that would REALLY help People sleep!😂

Or you know, you could just be a practical camper and take east plugs, sleep mask and booze to help you sleep. Ido and background noise barely even bothers me through the whisper thin fabric of my temporary abode.

SandieCollins · 29/07/2022 06:33

Thanks for the reminder, we’re off camping and I need to buy earplugs

Why would you go camping if you're so sensitive to noise?

Yep - just that. Suck it up sister

Or as Oscar Wilder pointed out 'Hell is other people''

I took my son camping a few years ago, he is a good sleeper, on our holiday he suddenly became allergic to sleep and so had some night time tantrums because he was over tired.

Most campers wear ear plugs.

ChaToilLeam · 29/07/2022 06:40

More reasons to not go camping! I can’t sleep well through noise. Even with ear plugs. Hope it gets better, OP. Can you move pitches?

Agree with this.

Sartre 😁

Also agree camping means too much peopling. I'd rather have one night in a hotel than a week in a tent.

FortunaMajor · 29/07/2022 06:43

There is a small child with challenging behaviour on my site. His father is VERY LOUDLY performance parenting which I can hear clearly across a large field. I've lost count of how many times he has told the boy he is horrible. It's a constant torrent of emotional abuse. Poor kid is about 4.

I think noise from kids is one of those things you just have to live with when camping. I do feel quite stabby about snorers though. Earplugs help.

LunaLights · 29/07/2022 06:43

Why on earth would you have a car that does a light display every time you open it? What is the point? Aside from sounding like the perfect trigger for any photosensitive epileptics who had the misfortune of seeing it….

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/07/2022 06:44

We went for a 2-night camp a couple of weekends ago. DD2 screamed when we tried to get her to sleep the first night. DH tried taking her for a walk in the buggy which calmed her down but she screamed as soon as we took her back in the tent.

I took her home. It wouldn’t be fair to the people around us for them to put up with her screaming. I took her home both nights and DD1 enjoyed a nice camp with DH and we joined them during the days.

Yeah, no. It wasn't Oscar Wilde, it was Jean-Paul Sartre.

That is even so not an excuse for people to behave in an unsociable manner, allowing a toddler to scream for hours every night on a campsite.

MsTSwift · 29/07/2022 06:46

Can’t think of a worse holiday sorry. Used to camp as a child and teen but dear god no way now. Not only having to sleep in a tent but being cheek by jowl with strangers and their hideous kids.

MaudieTipstaff · 29/07/2022 06:50

My only tent experience as an adult is at festivals where I'm too drunk to care but isn't the benefit to camping that you can just move the tent elsewhere if you don't like your neighbours?

Getintoyou · 29/07/2022 06:52

And you would get up and leave the camp site would you?

No, but it's every night!

Ear plugs only do so much.

anotherbrewplease · 29/07/2022 06:57

@DashboardConfessional @milkyaqua

oh dear Grin I've been thinking that was Oscar Wilde for such a long time - I'm 58!!

Better late than never - so thank you for pointing out my ignorance. God knows what else I've been getting wrong.... probably quite a lot.
