AIBU To think most women would think I'm weird

Inspired by a confessions thread I saw on MN earlier. I shower and wash my hair regularly but I've never shaved my legs higher than under my knees, I don't shave my armpits and only have a trim from time to time downstairs and I've never had a single hair on my eyebrows touched with tweezers or anything else.

Am I really strange or can anyone else say the same. I was with my first husband for 11 years until he died and I've been with my 2nd husband for 8 years now and had a few boyfriends over the years and never had any complaints (to my face at least) But I've always wondered if other women shave and tweek a lot more than me.

I do shave my armpits most days, but I do a lot of exercise so would be more likely to smell if I didn’t.

I don’t bother with my legs above the knees. Bikini line only if I’m going swimming.

I don’t pluck my eyebrows but I do tint them once a month because they’re very fine and fair so if I don’t I look permanently surprised.

TabithaTittlemouse · 29/07/2022 05:21

Most people wouldn’t notice unless you told them and even then most wouldn’t care.

I’ve got no interest in who has what.

garlictwist · 29/07/2022 05:23

I have a few friends who don't shave. They are perfectly normal and some are in happy relationships. It's a personal choice and not weird at all.

GnomeDePlume · 29/07/2022 06:28

One of the side effects of taking warfarin is hair loss. I also have vitiligo which means in the white patches any hair is bleaching out.

Every cloud and all that!

StridTheKiller · 29/07/2022 06:31

You lucky git OP! The older I get, the haìrier I get, I pretty much shave everything from the eyebrows down. I must be The Missing Link and wish they'd bring back sideshows as I'd have a job for life.

TibetanTerrah · 29/07/2022 06:42

I don't shave above the knee either, any hair is blonde so you have to really look for it.

I dated a guy for a while a few years ago who was horrified when I met him wearing a skirt and hadn't shaved above the knee and completely tried to shame me for it. This was a man who was morbidly obese (over 22st) but so in denial he continued to buy clothes far too small for him, and thought nothing of wandering round in shorts and a t shirt with his belly and arse crack hanging out for all to see, but apparently I was the gross one.

I didn't say anything as I didn't want to hurt his feelings but I was not impressed with that double standard at all.

Wannabegreenfingers · 29/07/2022 06:52

Not weird, but I do shave all k
of my legs, my leg hair does grow above my knees unfortunately. I trim my bikini and shave my underarms. I do it for me as it makes me feel better. I'm single so no one here to please. I also do my eyebrows as I have a unibrow, which I hate.

UseOfWeapons · 29/07/2022 06:55

Not weird at all.I’m not sure whether that means I should voteYABU or YANBU.
I neither know nor care what my friends do in the hair removal dept, let alone anyone else.
I hardly do any of these things because after the menopause, there’s less hair anyway. Wasn’t much to start with.

ChaToilLeam · 29/07/2022 07:00

Women differ greatly in the amount, distribution and colour of body hair they have, and some are comfortable with it, and some are not. This shouldn’t be a surprise to you, OP! I know a full spectrum of happily hairy women and those who whip everything off. You’re trying a bit hard to sound like A Cool Girl.

JustDanceAddict · 29/07/2022 07:04

Shave pits
shave legs just past knees but not much in winter as cba
Trump Uber occasionally
get eyebrows threaded occasionally- pluck inbetween - they are a decent shape though

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 29/07/2022 07:05

No. I don't think you're special or different.

I'm the same as you, except I don't bother with my legs in the winter.

I do my pits in the summer if they're going to be exposed.

But I have a magnificent bush which I rarely trim.

I was a part of the over plucking fiasco of the 90s, so I don't pluck my brows either.

Antarcticant · 29/07/2022 07:18

It sounds normal to me, OP, other than that I don't think everyone trims their 'downstairs'.

ThinkingForEveryone · 29/07/2022 07:40

Well aren't you special OP.
I don't shave anymore......instead I wax EVERYTHING 😂
It's a tedious once a week process (I am epically hairy and it grows back faster than a garden full of dandelions!) but it's done for the week and I can have a quick shower in the morning and be ready to go, when I was shaving everything I took forever in the morning.
No one cares OP, just do what you want.

Hermanfromguesswho · 29/07/2022 07:56

It’s not weird. Just lucky that you don’t have more hair! I’m very hairy!! So couldn’t manage to not shave above knees as have thick dark hair there for example.
you must have fairly eyebrow shaped eyebrows too rather than a bushy monobrow…enjoy your hairlessness!

UxbridgeVoteBJOut · 29/07/2022 07:59

Adult DD often thanks me for giving her lovely eyebrows that need no work.
I know I wouldn't sculpt mine anyway, but it seems I have the dream, anyway.

I don't grow hair above knees so also lucked out there.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 29/07/2022 08:07

I do my armpits occasionally but the only other body part that ever gets shaved is my head.

Although to be fair, I’ve got minimal leg hair & its very pale so maybe if it was thicker & darker I might think differently.

GeriTheBerry · 29/07/2022 08:21

I’ve noticed a lot of young women (late teens-twenties) now don’t shave their armpits at all.

maddy68 · 29/07/2022 08:27

I also have never shaved my legs above the knees but I am very fair so my hair is pretty much invisible above my knees

I have to shave my armpits though. Even though again it's fine I don't feel deodorant works well with hair and I do think it's a bit weird having armpit hair. My friend allows hers to grow and If I am honest it grosses me out a bit to see it

Again with pubes. Don't you get sweaty ?

Obviously that's the way nature intended and it's designed to trap pheromones but not for me

BigDayToday · 29/07/2022 08:43

Quantumphysicality · 28/07/2022 22:42

No makeup here. Some eyebrow tweezing. Regular underarm shaving but only leg shaving when on show- and because I’ve got pale skin and dark hair.

I also have to remove hair before a swim as even a boy leg doesn’t hide it.

I wonder how many of those who don’t shave actually have very little or very subtle hair.

i hope I’m wrong and there are hordes of hairy worn out there being happy not giving a shit!!

Yep. Dark haired here and rarely give a shit!

FarmGirl78 · 29/07/2022 08:52

I've always gone with the adage "only strippers shave above the knee". It makes me laugh because I always imagine it being said by my Nan's voice, only I don't think she was the type of lady who would have ever uttered the word "stripper". I have no idea where I got it from!

Sartre · 29/07/2022 09:02

I don’t shave above knees because I’m not hairy there? I haven’t touched my brows since it was fashionable to have mega thin ones in the 00s. Do shave pits and bits though.

It doesn’t really matter ultimately. Your body, your choice and all that.

dworky · 29/07/2022 09:03

I've never shaved my legs.

AffIt · 29/07/2022 09:15

Dartmoorcheffy · 28/07/2022 22:27

I've never shaved my legs above my knees, there's no hair there to shave. My eyebrows are naturally a nice shape. Armpits get done when I remember or intend to wear a vest top. Bikini line gets done occasionally..DP doesn't mind. I don't ask him to shave ...

Yep, me too. I was born blonde (although my hair darkened as I got older) and the small amount of body hair that I have is fine and blonde.

Bednobsbroomsticks · 29/07/2022 09:15

I shave above knee. Have dark thick hair and unfortunately that means hairy upper legs too. I shave everywhere. I like feeling smooth.

JaninaDuszejko · 29/07/2022 09:26

Don't tweezer my eyebrows, don't shave under my arms, old enough to remember when a generous bush was desirable and so have never toughed my pubes and only shave my legs rarely (no more than once a month in the summer). I'm naturally not very hairy so it seems a waste of time. I do however wash my hair on my head every day and get it cut every 6 weeks.
