AIBU To think most women would think I'm weird

Inspired by a confessions thread I saw on MN earlier. I shower and wash my hair regularly but I've never shaved my legs higher than under my knees, I don't shave my armpits and only have a trim from time to time downstairs and I've never had a single hair on my eyebrows touched with tweezers or anything else.

Am I really strange or can anyone else say the same. I was with my first husband for 11 years until he died and I've been with my 2nd husband for 8 years now and had a few boyfriends over the years and never had any complaints (to my face at least) But I've always wondered if other women shave and tweek a lot more than me.

If women find you weird … so what? Sod them. Weird is wonderful!

& body hair is utterly and completely natural!!!

RyanYESorNO · 28/07/2022 22:49

Absolutely you do you. Everyone is different.

The only other comment I can make, is that as a 16 year old I went on holiday with a family friend and she only waxed her legs from the knee down and then wore shortish-shorts (think camping trip shorts) and yes, as a 16 year old, I found it 'weird' in that, if you think hair removal is important, why are you showing smooth lower legs, and hairy thighs? And clearly I still remember it! I just know she got them waxed because at the time she was the only person I knew who would get a 'beauty treatment' done and I was just confused as to why she didn't go higher!

But who gives a shit what 16 year old me thought.

NeedToLeaveNow · 28/07/2022 22:52

Pretty much the same as you OP

Badgirlriri · 28/07/2022 22:53

I’m just waiting for someone to say anyone who shaves wants to look like a child…

barelyfunctional · 28/07/2022 22:57

I know loads of women who don’t shave at all. Including some who sprout a few long chin hairs and happily let them grow. Personally my legs get shaved (below knee only) about four times a year and my armpits only get shaved if I’m going to a special event and wearing something that shows them. No shaving at all in winter. Eyebrows do their own thing. The concept of shaving arms is just weird to me.

DoIDareSayAnything · 28/07/2022 22:58

I have a shiny healthy coat all over.

Am a blonde though, so unless you are getting up close and personal no one would notice.

Been with DH for 25 years. He shaves his face, though not so often now he mostly wokes from home and that is about it.

Other people's body hair is not my concern.

MrsJBaptiste · 28/07/2022 22:58

Eyebrows - threaded (once a month)
Armpits - shaved every day
Legs - shaved every other day (up to mid thigh)
Fanny - shaved wice a week (all off)

PurpleDaisies · 28/07/2022 23:00

It’s your decision. Most women I know so more that you do but I don’t think that actually matters.

GT22 · 28/07/2022 23:00

Don't think your weird everyone is different and some people may find my habits weird! I have different shaves for different parts. Armpits whenever I'm wearing a vest or if I ever remember! Legs - from the lower leg down (practically just the part you can see at the bottom of my leggings) but my private part is always bald, don't know why but I've always felt dirty if it's not clean shaven! Even made DP shave me every other day at the end of my pregnancy, but some people may find my habits weird and not like the way I do it! Each to their own I say

Barrawarra · 28/07/2022 23:02

I’m the same as you, except I do my pits in the summer, rarely bother in the winter. My eyebrows don’t grow so no need to pluck them, doubt I would even if they did. I think some would be appalled by my non groomed pubes but I care not, how uncomfortable is it shaving and the bare look is not my thing.

Titsywoo · 28/07/2022 23:03

Each to their own. I am quite hairy and have to wax above the knee as my hair is dark there.

Toosadtocomprehend · 28/07/2022 23:03

I have never plucked my eyebrows and only shave my lower legs and armpits in the summer!! Bikini line I get waxed if going on holiday !
I really cannot be arsed TBH !

Whadda · 28/07/2022 23:05

I was thinking the exact same thing this morning, OP!

I was showering and my armpit hair resulted in the most satisfactory lather. I was thinking that the last time I shaved them was probably April. I do it on a needs basis, and I rarely need to have my pits exposed.

Legs are the same. Shave I’d bend to but basically from September to May, I’m like Chewbacca. Once I do shave, my legs then feel cold.

I used to be good for getting my brows done and would like to get back in to that because I did like the shape.

Treabrea · 28/07/2022 23:05

I can't think of a time I've seen a woman with hairy arm pits but maybe with all these long sleeve maxi and midi dresses everyone wears, everyone has hairy pits and it's just me keeping Gillette going.

I don't care what other people do. I've got smooth pits and legs, well groomed brows and a bush straight out of the original Joy of Sex book.

Whadda · 28/07/2022 23:06

Ooops- didn’t actually get to my point.

As I was lathering my pits I was thinking about other women and if they just do stuff like that daily? Am I just a piss-poor woman?

RoseAylingEllisFanClub · 28/07/2022 23:08

Never shaved my legs. Never plucked my brows. Armpits when need arises, mostly in the summer, but not for aesthetic reasons - I find sweat tends to cling to my underarm hair, so the less hair, the sweeter I smell!

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 28/07/2022 23:09

I don't have hair on my legs ( not sure why, but did in my teens) I never shave my pits unless I absolutely have to, I never do my eyebrows.
As to my pubes... they can just stay there.

littlepeas · 28/07/2022 23:10

I don’t do much. The only thing I regularly shave is my armpits - legs only to knees and only if they are coming out (very rare). I occasionally trim bikini line, as I do prefer it short, but don’t worry about the edges. My eyebrows were over plucked in the 90’s (yay), so don’t need to do anything with them in terms of hair removal - more a case of making them look less dilapidated!!

JulieMarooley · 28/07/2022 23:11

The only bit I find unusual is the armpit hair - especially as you do your legs, as it would maybe take 8-10 seconds to do the armpits as well

Franklyfrost · 28/07/2022 23:11

I don’t shave my legs. I get them out, paint my toes, etc but keep them hairy. I’ve been doing it for two years now and it still feels a little shameful sometimes but spending time and money on baldy legs felt like a pointless chore. I think it is unusual, especially if you present as effeminate.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 28/07/2022 23:11

People: sometimes threads are designed by fetishists who want to get people talking about their bodily functions so they. An wank over it.

just be careful what you share on MN folks.

gellyh · 28/07/2022 23:11

Not uber strange. I don't have hair above my knees & my hair is fair anyway so don't always shave legs on holiday. I have very little armpit hair, like 4 strands. don't do anything with my eyebrows personally

StripesSpots · 28/07/2022 23:12

I don’t bat an eyelid at what others do with their body hair, so def don’t think you’re weird, OP.

I shave my armpits all year round as I feel fresher that way, but legs and bikini line only get done in the summer or when I’m going to be wearing something that reveal those areas. I’d like to be ok with going natural, but it’s so deeply ingrained in me.

Winter = fuzzy legs and natural bush, though. Been with DH 22 years and he couldn’t give a hoot.

Lagertha6 · 28/07/2022 23:13

I'm very dark and have lots of unwanted hair everywhere.

I pluck my brows every few days, waxed bikini always every 4/5 weeks and just started getting top lip done, shave arms/legs/toes/bellybutton every few days.

If I could get away not Shaving I wood although I couldn't not shave under my arms

RoseslnTheHospital · 28/07/2022 23:14

The "weird" thing you're referencing is that if you glance around at TV, movies, magazines, social media and the like there can be a very narrow representation of what women typically look like. And for some reason, in the UK we are very averse to obvious body hair on women, particularly if it's dark against pale skin.

I am too old to care, I have a partner who doesn't care, and I have very few urges to people please. But even then, I would find it difficult to have my (dark, fairly copious) leg hair on show. I don't tend to wear shorts and I never wear skirts/dresses so I at most will shave my lower legs from the knees down. I shave my armpits when I can be bothered which is not very often. I used to have my eyebrows done occasionally when I was in my 20s but that's a fair while ago now. I get my hair highlighted because I don't like my natural hair colour, but that's about it. I have never shaved my pubic hair, would never wear anything where it would be an issue, and have never had any complaints from anyone who was fortunate enough to see it.

I think that the majority of women probably do more hair removal than me and spend longer on hair, makeup etc daily.
