Inspired by a confessions thread I saw on MN earlier. I shower and wash my hair regularly but I've never shaved my legs higher than under my knees, I don't shave my armpits and only have a trim from time to time downstairs and I've never had a single hair on my eyebrows touched with tweezers or anything else.

Am I really strange or can anyone else say the same. I was with my first husband for 11 years until he died and I've been with my 2nd husband for 8 years now and had a few boyfriends over the years and never had any complaints (to my face at least) But I've always wondered if other women shave and tweek a lot more than me.

OP posts:

In my sample of swimming and yoga I've noticed many more, mainly very trendy young woman not shaving their arm pits. I rarely bother, not because I am young or trendy but lazy. I'm hoping like my 90s wardrobe I am just going to be accidentally fashionable.

LesOliviers · 28/07/2022 23:14

I used to shave my thighs, but stopped when I realised that the hairs on my thighs aren't very visible. Still do my lower legs though, so it's not just you.

FrecklesMalone · 28/07/2022 23:15

I have never shaved my pubes or thighs but it wasn't a thing 20 years ago and DH doesn't care

FrecklesMalone · 28/07/2022 23:16

My 12 year old so far doesn't give a shit about her hairy legs or pits. I'm waiting for her to ask for a razor and it's up to her but glad it wasn't like me be aghast that my friends mum had hairy armpits

Veryverycalmnow · 28/07/2022 23:20

In Winter I'm wooly and in Summer I'm smooth.
I don't judge others for hairy bits on show, but when it's me, I don't feel I can go out in a skirt with fully wooly legs or show any armpit hair! I don't know what I think would happen, but I'm sticking to my system for now.

Primatrying · 28/07/2022 23:20

Most women I know (late 20s to mid 30s) are pretty bare downstairs. I think it's hideous. Even shaving enough for a swimming costume is really uncomfortable for me and often leads to painful ingrown hairs. I don't understand why women do it.

I do shave pits, always, and legs if anyone is going to see them.

CharlotteRose90 · 28/07/2022 23:20

I must be the weird one then. I shave my legs and underarms every 2-3 days as thanks to pcos I’d be like a yetti otherwise. My eyebrows get waxed once a month. As for downstairs if I’m single I leave it if I'm with a partner or dating j shave it as I feel more comfortable and confident.

2ndMrsdeWinter · 28/07/2022 23:20

I don’t find any personal grooming preferences weird. Each to their own.

ProseccoandPizza · 28/07/2022 23:25

Eyebrows threaded every month or so but pluck strays in between. Shave mid thigh to ankle every single day. Armpits every single day. Pubic hair 1-2 times a week.

but I do think it’s a generational thing. I feel more ‘me’ groomed so highlighted hair, lash extensions and acrylic nails.

darisdet · 28/07/2022 23:27

I know, and have known, friends who didn't bother with eyebrow maintenance (can't say I'd notice or remember anything else much). Not weird at all.

I don't like body hair, personally, so remove most of it. I also have one of the twisty hair remover tools even though I only have fine invisible hair there.
I've just bought an IPL remover thing (cheap skate version not Lumea), which I almost returned after starting a thread about it, but didn't in the end!

darisdet · 28/07/2022 23:28

Twisty hair removing tool is for face!

Shodan · 28/07/2022 23:29

I've never shaved above my knees- never needed to (except for a few rogue pubic hairs that have lost their way, I suppose). Never had to shave my arms either- although I can clearly remember watching my mother trying to singe the hair off hers.

I did have a friend who was properly aghast that I'd never had a pedicure, which amused me somewhat. It honestly never occurred to me- I'm very flexible and can reach my toes myself😁I did have one, with her, to assuage her angst, and found it a very underwhelming experience, tbh.

Calmdown14 · 28/07/2022 23:30

@Pinkkahori are you me?!

Although in lockdown my husband started to cut my hair using an (imitation) Crea clip.
I've not been back to a hairdresser yet! I don't know how people enjoy it. I hate it

GeriTheBerry · 28/07/2022 23:32

Legs only get done below the knee (almost no hair above). Don’t bother with my bikini line as I only have hair within my knicker/bikini line and both Dh and I prefer the natural look. I prefer natural hair on arms (and definitely better than arm stubble!)

Magazines etc plug hair removal because they want ads from hair removal providers. You really don’t need to do anything more than you want.

darisdet · 28/07/2022 23:36

I've never needed to hair remove above mid calf either - sparse invisible hair, same for arms!

Tablechairtable · 28/07/2022 23:36

Legs usually in the summer. Winter is yeti time! Tbh I'm not that hairy. I think women that are darker probably have a lot more to tackle!

Bold fail...

cattycatty12 · 28/07/2022 23:49

Everyone's different and that's OK.

I shave my armpits every time I have a shower, I just can't stand the feeling of anything being there.

I shave my legs right up and shave between my legs regularly to be completely bare just because I hate feeling hair there!

Oddly I used to have really hairy arms which never bothered me, then I had my third baby recently and the hair on my arms have just gone/fallen out 🤣

Blankbias · 28/07/2022 23:51

OP, why would you think you are strange? I’m not sure what would make you feel more or less ‘strange’? If people shaved their armpits (as you don’t), or people shaved they’re legs more often than you or less than you? It seems like an odd moving bar to hold yourself to. If you’re happy and comfortable with what you’re doing, then you don’t really need to compare yourself to others?

AndAnotherTwo · 28/07/2022 23:53

I don't think you are weird. I just think I am jealous. I'm hairier than a grizzly bear and i wish I didn't have to worry about hair removal. (Not that I have to but unfortunately I'm too insecure and too vain to just not care)

Threeboysandadog · 28/07/2022 23:53

I haven’t shaved my legs or arm pits for 30+ Years. I’ve never had a manicure, pedicure or my eyebrows done. Since lockdown dh has cut my hair and I don’t wear makeup. I’m probably weird but pretty low maintenance.

Intheflicker · 28/07/2022 23:55

Yeah, you're not special.

TheSmallAssassin · 28/07/2022 23:57

I'm pretty much the same as you OP, there's no right way to be a woman! We should all be able to shave/wax/pluck as little or as much as we want.

whynotwhatknot · 28/07/2022 23:57

The top0 of my legs arent hairy so i dont shave there and dont do the bottom alot either only wearing certain clothes and not often

dont do my eyebrows either

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 28/07/2022 23:58

People shave their legs above their knees??
