To think this is a ridiculous amount of toilet rolls weekly???

With the price increases of generally everything it's bugging the life out me even more than it did previously. I've always said my household use far too many per week but surely 9 per week is excessive. We are a family of 3, DC, husband and myself. It's definitely not my DC using excessive amounts or putting some down the toilet etc because DC likes an audience when doing the toilet and likes reassurance she is wiping correctly.

Teenage DS have one in their bedrooms too!

Cantanka · 26/07/2022 11:20

The volume of water - even though it's carefully recycled - the energy required and the size of the equipment needed to make the final rolls we take for granted and then flush away is mind boggling

this is the issue with people wasting it, not financial cost.

obviously use what you need to use but scrunching up 10 sheets per wipe is just excessive and wasteful.

We gave upmon WGAC. Paper too thin and was forever fishing bits out of nether regions!

allboysherebutme · 26/07/2022 11:41

Same as you. X

allboysherebutme · 26/07/2022 11:41

I buy shops own ones now or from the market ( good quality ). X

BloomingGreatTiming · 26/07/2022 11:48

I got fed up with rolls not lasting long and switched to WGAC. It seems pricey when you first order but the rolls definitely last much longer.
If you don't want to order a big pack from them directly, often eco-shops stock them to buy individually. Good way of trying them.

ThanksAntsThants · 26/07/2022 11:51

Yeah that’s crazy, me and almost adult DS use 3 to 4.

I would argue with my ex about toilet paper, especially at the start of the first lockdown, because she used one per day. Fuck knows what she did with it but it was outrageous. I mean it would annoy me usually, but at the start of lockdown you couldn’t get any for love nor money, and she was seemingly eating the fucking stuff. That’s not the only reason she’s an ex but her general attitude to things like that is one of them.

@dementedma which one were you using - the standard or premium?

2 adults, about one roll a week. 3 each is a LOT imo

How???? That's a weirdly small amount!!

Youcunnyfunt · 26/07/2022 12:21

I buy 24 every few months... I think it's probably around 1 or 2 rolls a week or so...
However I'm out all day in the office and I also have a bum washer (hose) at home. Try wetting the tissue for the bum. It's way way more effective and much quicker to get clean, plus you use way less loo roll.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 26/07/2022 13:36

Four people, three with IBS, two with horrendous hayfever, so we use as much as we need. Sometimes loads, sometimes barely any. I just tend to chuck a 24 pack in my online shop every other month and it works out.

sweetkitty · 26/07/2022 23:46

Are you all using one sheet a poo? I know our 18 rolls a week is excessive but there’s 4 menstruating women in our house too. Women use more than men obviously and more during period time.

HollaHolla · 27/07/2022 00:02

Gawd. Just me. I probably use about 4 rolls a week. 😬
I do have IBS, and some nights I would just sit on the loo all evening. 😣

I stockpiled WGAC at start of pandemic when shops were running out & still have 4 48-roll cartons - but it is shit and does stick to one. Canceled my subscription.

mathanxiety · 27/07/2022 03:31

Surely how much you use depends to a large extent on the, ehem, consistency of what you're wiping? You can't expect everyone to need the same amount.

How much toilet roll did you think you were going to need? Honestly, that's completely nuts.

Isis1981uk · 27/07/2022 18:07

We're a family of 4 who use about 6-7 rolls a week. When my partner is away for work, the kids & I use about 3-4!

I have to say from this thread, Im not convinced women do use more bog roll than men!

GreenEyedDevil · 27/07/2022 18:18

There’s two of us. Both with very bad stomach problems and we use 9-15 rolls a week. 220 sheets a roll. I wish I could use less due to the cost of the rolls increasing but when you have go up to 8 times a day you go through paper like anything.

zurala · 27/07/2022 18:21

We are a family of four, three of whom are at home all the time, and we have a Naked Sprout subscription of 24 rolls every 8-9 weeks, so about three rolls a week maximum.

How on earth are people using nine a week??!!!

takeitandleaveit · 27/07/2022 18:46

They are making the rolls narrower, the cardboard inner tube is bigger, and the paper is wrapped more loosely around it.

And they thought we wouldn't notice. It's like Wagon Wheels all over again, I tell you.

And Quality Street tins. Bastards.

RobertaFirmino · 27/07/2022 19:10

I use Nicky Elite and get it from Home Bargains, where 32 rolls are £8.79. It's 3 ply, quilted and of great quality for the price. Not quite as good as Andrex but better than a supermarket own brand.

user1471538283 · 27/07/2022 19:15

We use loads but I work from home, I'm always on the loo, I only buy the cheapest so the pipe doesn't clog and life is far too short to worry about how much loo roll we use.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 27/07/2022 19:17

I live on my own and don’t even use one a week. 9 between 3 people seems beyond excessive.
