To think this is a ridiculous amount of toilet rolls weekly???

With the price increases of generally everything it's bugging the life out me even more than it did previously. I've always said my household use far too many per week but surely 9 per week is excessive. We are a family of 3, DC, husband and myself. It's definitely not my DC using excessive amounts or putting some down the toilet etc because DC likes an audience when doing the toilet and likes reassurance she is wiping correctly.

@Silverfinch
A whole chicken not a half chicken?
🤣🤣

LilacPoppy · 26/07/2022 00:24

Approx 15 a week for 8 people. Some posters don't sound very hygienic. You do realise you wipe until the paper is clean?

Happymum12345 · 26/07/2022 00:25

5 here, using about 15, if not more, a week. I wish I was joking. No issues as far as I know! I’m sure there is a lot less paper on them now!

HeddaGarbled · 26/07/2022 00:34

Supermarket own brands are smaller rolls plus the paper’s thinner so you need more sheets folded over for each wipe. But they’re cheaper than the decent full size rolls like Andrex.

Someone needs to do a proper test on this. Are cheap toilet rolls a false economy?

Monday55 · 26/07/2022 06:25

DH and I use 2 rolls a week & we buy the mediocre stuff (neither Andrex nor shops own brand). It used to be more but we now also use wet tissue wipes which gets you clean quicker after poops.

RedToothBrush · 26/07/2022 06:30

Wow! This is interesting. When we've had guests in the past, ive thought they eat toilet roll, they got through so many.

Clearly its a common thing to eat it.

Thats an absurd amount.

hesbeen2021 · 26/07/2022 06:52

In my home there are currently two adults and one child and I guess we use about three (child uses the most)
When I lived alone I would use one roll every couple of weeks

Branster · 26/07/2022 06:57

They are smaller!!!!!!
I noticed this started to happen since the pandemic started. The width is slightly shorter too but the size of the rolls is definitely smaller. And also paper slightly thinner and fluffier.
And nobody talks about this ever. I feel like I'm imagining it all.

SpartacusNotEsther · 26/07/2022 07:00

One adult with bowl issues here, I use just over 1 per week, so it seems a lot to me.

HandbagsnGladrags · 26/07/2022 07:02

Oh God I've heard it all now. Competitive low bog roll useage. There are better things to try and save money on.

Silverfinch · 26/07/2022 00:07

I find that if you cook a chicken properly and stretch it out for a fortnight, each meal is so teeny tiny that nobody ever needs a shit.

😂😂

Riverlee · 26/07/2022 07:04

Family of three, and we use around four a week.

A Brown Owl I knew used to run pack holidays. She used to estimate the amount of toilet rolls on the basis of one toilet roll per person per week (plus a few extra spare).

PinkiOcelot · 25/07/2022 22:19

Am I the only one who has no idea how many rolls we use a week. I buy packs of 24 and buy another when it’s running out. No idea how long a pack lasts though.

But presumably that means it's less than every 2.5 weeks which is what it would be if you used as many as the OP's family do?

I'm the same in that I have no idea but it can't be very often.

fantasmasgoria1 · 26/07/2022 07:12

There are 3 adults here and use around 8 rolls a week. My husband gets through up to half a roll every time he poops. But he always says wipe until you are clean.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 26/07/2022 07:25

Family of three, both at home during the day usually. We use around 3-4 rolls. But then we have fancy Who Gives A Crap bamboo toilet paper.

GraceandMolly · 26/07/2022 07:27

Family of 3.
3 rolls a week.

crimsonlake · 26/07/2022 07:29

I think I go through a lot, either alone or when my grown up children are visiting. Tbh it is not something I have kept count off and use accordingly. Good quality toilet paper is not something I am going to scrimp on.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 26/07/2022 07:37

Could you try using both sides?

It would halve your usage!

BarbaraofSeville · 26/07/2022 07:41

RedCarsGoFaster · 25/07/2022 21:20

It will vary huge depending on which toilet roll you are buying.

Compare the number of sheets per roll as well as the thickness of the paper.

2 of us here. If DH is away for a week, I'll use 1.5ish rolls. If he's here, we go through 4-5. I've asked him before to stop using so much, but he definitely doesn't think he can! 🙄

If a man uses that much more than a woman, it's highly likely he's being quite wasteful. After all, they don't have periods, use a lot less for a wee and wee less often IME.

Maybe they're eating it when they spend all that time in there having a leisurely man shit?

Costco own brand toilet roll is excellent and very good value. It's probably almost worth paying for the membership just for that if you're eligible.

stillherenow · 26/07/2022 07:44

I've just ordered who gives a crap to see we get on with that. It estimates we need 2.5 roll a week, we shall see....!

Fuwari · 26/07/2022 07:45

3 adults here. We use about a roll a day, but it’s mostly me as I have IBS. I do think we use too much but what can you do? It’s not something you can really cut down on!

SofiaSoFar · 26/07/2022 07:47

LilacPoppy · 26/07/2022 00:24

This made me laugh.

If you got shit on your arm, would you just wipe it with paper until the paper was "clean" and therefore conclude your arm was now perfectly clean?

ShippingNews · 26/07/2022 07:48

Get a bidet - mine washes and dries. No toilet paper needed.

KosherDill · 26/07/2022 07:51

Bubbleguppette · 25/07/2022 21:22

Please let your DH use as much toilet paper as he wants or needs without harassing him about it!!! Really can't believe this thread.

I know!

Of all the things to skimp on!

gogohmm · 26/07/2022 07:51

Seems about right if you are home a lot. We use less but we are all back at work full time and go away a lot
