Square sponge iced in green, Cost of cake is about a fiver, plus decorations which she also gets as a present.

Love the cake - not a fan of the price tag!

YABU for wanting to spend £100 on a 5 yr olds birthday cake! Mr Bean is the least of your worries....

I asked her a few weeks ago what birthday cake she might like this year, she said mr bean so I Googled it to see if there was a such thing and she saw this one and now has her heart set on it. I have asked her twice since if shes sure she still wants a mr bean cake and she said yes. It looks like Mr Bean cake it is.

So you found someone to make an exact replica of the one you found online for £100?

Purplepatsy · 25/07/2022 16:16

I would buy Mr Bean cake toppers and make the cake myself for much less than £100. You can colour some icing green.

I would tell her she will get a Mr Bean cake and that it will be a surprise. If I thought she showed huge disappointment at that idea then I would buy the one she wanted.

whynotwhatknot · 25/07/2022 16:50

as delboy said once Why ask?

you asked a five year old thats what she wants if yu didnt want to nknow you shouldnt have asked her

I would never, ever spend £100 on a birthday cake, especially for a little child, who would have no concept of the cost, if that's not much money to you though, then you should get a green Mr Bean cake

It's not the price I'd just prefer something a bit more tasteful 😂

Tbh that is unreasonable.

Its not your birthday so the cake decoration doesn’t have to be to your taste.

My younger kids all love Mr Bean because of the cartoon.

it’s no less tasteful than Frozen, Mr Men or anything else that kids like.

Cap89 · 26/07/2022 08:12

Get the poor kid the cake she wants. On a separate note, if someone’s quoted you less than £100 for a replica of that cake, it’s an absolute steal. If they plan to use toys it’s a bit different, but if they’re doing handmade figures and toppers like this one, it should be a lot more expensive, so you’d be getting a bargain!

Ah come on - she's 5!!!

If it's not about the money, then let her have what she wants!!

Take photos and when she's 13 you can remind her that's what she chose when she's 5🤣

On that basis you would BU not to get it. It's her birthday, not yours. If your gesture is genuinely for her benefit, just get the cake that she wants!

misskatamari · 26/07/2022 08:20

I wouldn’t buy it, but that’s because I wouldn’t spend £100 on a cake.

if you can afford it and it’s what you would be spending on any cake, then of course get her the cake! I would also try and avoid the “are you sure you want the Mr. Bean cake?” Questions. Kids are more perceptive than we often give them credit for. She will pick on the fact that you, for whatever reason, think she should have something else. And then feel like she’s somehow “wrong” for liking what she likes, and thus a new generation of people pleasers is born. She’s five, let her like what she likes and cheer her on for that! Don’t subtlety shame her because it’s not your taste (I know this isn’t your intention, but it’s so common for us adults to do, and kids do pick up on it and adjust themselves accordingly over time, when they should feel happy and free to like what they like and be proud of that)

Christ do people really spend this much on a 5 year old birthday cake!

I made the cake for my DDs 5th birthday. A fairy tale castle. I am spectacularly bad at cake decorating but this was easy, two madeiras for the base, a Swiss roll at each corner and an upturned ice cream cornet on top of each Swiss roll then slathered the lot in pink butter icing and sweets.

She is mid 20s and still remembers that cake. In a good way!!!!!
