Every year I order my 5 year old nieces birthday cake and this year she has asked for a pea green mr bean cake that looks like this? Aibu to try and persuade her to choose something else or would you just buy the cake? 🫣😂I don't know if can bring myself to pay probably the best part of £100 for a green mr bean cake!

Meh. If you are going to start policing which cartoon character she can have on her cake perhaps it's time to let her parents take over the cake buying.

araiwa · 25/07/2022 12:48

Buy it

That's a ridiculous price for a cake

Crotonifolia · 25/07/2022 13:37

It's her birthday and thats what she'd like. If that's what you'd normally spend on a cake, I'm not sure why this year's choice is giving you second thoughts?

GoAround · 25/07/2022 13:37

I wouldn’t spend that much on a 5YOs cake but if you normally do and you wouldn’t even be questioning it if she’d said she wanted Frozen, then you should go ahead and get Mr Bean 😂 FWIW my 5YO DD loves the cartoon and would think that cake was amazing too.

Dammitthisisshit · 25/07/2022 13:40

YANBU to want to buy a cheaper cake.
YABVU if you’re happy to buy a cake for that cost but it’s the fact it’s Mr Bean you’re unhappy with.

This pretty much.

No chance in hell I'd pay £100 for a 5 year olds Birthday Cake

AlexandriasWindmill · 25/07/2022 13:41

I was just coming on to say she'll be watching the cartoon Mr Bean but I see a PP has pointed it out. Grin The cartoons were quite relaxing iirc. I think because they were much quieter than other cartoons.

Buy her the cake!

minimadgirl · 25/07/2022 13:43

I wouldn't but purely because I couldn't afford it. If I could afford it I would though, mostly as my daughter is sbsolutely Mini mad.

skyeisthelimit · 25/07/2022 13:52

If you can happily afford it, then YABU to not buy it because of the colour etc. That is what she has asked for.

Cashew22 · 25/07/2022 13:55

100 quid for a birthday cake? For a 5 year-old! Blimey!

The cake design seems completely fine, though, so long as she actually knows who Mr Bean is. Honestly what's the difference between that and a pink Pepa Pig cake? I think the green Mr Bean one is less obnoxious, to be honest.

MzHz · 25/07/2022 13:59

You’ve set up a ridiculous habit here! £100 for a cake is lunacy and actually something her parents could be doing. Why don’t you offer to chip in.

Blueskiee · 25/07/2022 14:01

How does 5 yr old feel about Colin the Caterpillar?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 25/07/2022 14:04

£100 for a cake for a 5-year old? I'm in the wrong business!

RockinHorseShit · 25/07/2022 14:05

If you would normally spend £100, go fir it, it's what she wants.

If you wouldn't normally spend that much, then explain that you can't afford that particular cake, so it's a no, but yiu will do your best to find an affordable alternative.

I'd suggest buying or making a basic rectangular cake, edge it with green icing & get someone a little arty to use a template to edible paint a cartoon Mr Bean onto the top of the cake ... you might be able to find a printed edible cake topper, which would be even easier

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/07/2022 14:11

Surely the point of offering to get the cake for your niece's birthday is to get what she wants (within reason), and if she likes Mr Bean, then that's what you get.

I agree with everyone else that £100 is a huge amount of money for a cake for a 5 year old's birthday party, but that's a different question to the one you are asking!

girlmom21 · 25/07/2022 14:11

I wouldn't waste that much money on a cake. The cake topper shared by a PP is a good idea.

Shakeitshakeitbaby · 25/07/2022 14:18

Loads of different Mr Bean cake toppers available. Get one of those instead.

mam0918 · 25/07/2022 14:19

I never understand people who pay crazy money for a birthday cake... your apparently paying more for a kids party cake than we did for our two tier wedding cake that was suppose to be for 70 but could of fed 200 lol.

That said if your willing to pay stupid money on a cake then get the one she wants, theres nothing wrong with Mr. Bean and my kids love the cartoon.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/07/2022 14:19

If you are happy to spent that money on a cake, let her have the cake she wants. These things are important when you are 5

Mooboo3 · 25/07/2022 14:19

wow! £100 for a cake! You can get a super chocolate birthday cake from lidl, cut off the top, stick on some ready made green fondant and print out a picture of mr bean that you attach to a stick and stick into the cake, surround with candles and smarties, job done.
but then I’m tight!

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 25/07/2022 14:21

That's a lovely cake but I know someone who would do it for £30. Wouldn't pay £100.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 25/07/2022 14:21

Is the issue here that you think the cake is ridiculously expensive - or that you don’t think it’s ‘appropriate’? If you’re asking is £100 too much for a cake, then the answer is yes, absolutely. If, on the other hand, you’d be happy to pay that for something pink and glittery (a kind of giant cupcake) that’s more Instaworthy, perhaps you need to ask who you’re doing this for.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 25/07/2022 14:21

I would, even though I think that is Noel Gallagher on the cake, not Mr Bean.

Riapia · 25/07/2022 14:22

The Mr Bean figure is hideous.
But lifelike. 😁😁😁

Azandme · 25/07/2022 14:24

"What cake would you like?"

"Mr Bean please!"

"Oh no, sorry, I meant what cake would I like!" tinkly laugh

You asked her, she told you. Don't be one of those people who asks children then ignores the response because you don't like it.
