Making Sunday dinner today and DH nips to the shop to get something for dessert. A simple task you may think...

So he brings home a bag of goodies and first out is an apple pie, not bad.

What is next? Custard you may think? Cream? Even vanilla ice cream perhaps?

No... it's MINT flavoured ice cream.

Now I don't want to insult the weirdos anyone who enjoys mint ice-cream but with apple pie?! Mint and apple?

Ugh. AIBU to think DH has absolutely failed this assignment?

So, to me, this screams 'intentional incompetence', he's trying to make sure you do this errand by yourself next time by doing it so badly this time.

If you let this one slide, it will go on for years until one day you realise you are doing all the chores yourself because over the years he has done them all so badly.

You can't just let him get away with this......this is a LTB moment if I ever saw one.

Maybe he likes apple pie and mint ice cream or is he not allowed an opinion? I would tell you If you're so fussy, go yourself next time!

Well clearly he can't be trusted so I bloody will from now on! 😂

I can't think of anything that mint ice cream goes with. Including more mint ice cream. The entire concept of mint ice cream is an abomination unto the Lord.

I had garlic ice cream once. That was surprisingly lovely.

itsgettingweird · 24/07/2022 15:13

🤣🤣🤣🤣

You write brilliantly.

I'm picturing you stood in kitchen all smiles whilst DH produces this apple pie and then just motionless with a frying pan ready to strike when the mint comes out.

I LOVE both. But not together.

As an aside toffee or caramel ice cream is amazing with apple pie!

Mint ice cream doesn’t go with anything 🤮
Send him back out for custard.

Mint choc chip is lovely with chocolate cake - or maybe a chocolate torte, like a giant After Eight 😋 But I agree with the majority re: apple pie!

speakout · 24/07/2022 15:18

In the early days before my OH was house trained he went out a few days after christmas to buy something for lunch- for us, and two small children. He came back with a bottle of port and a jar of picked walnuts.

TheChosenTwo · 24/07/2022 15:18

I’m sorry you’ve had to find out this way that you’re clearly married to a monster. Distressing situation 💐
mint ice cream goes with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

easyday · 24/07/2022 15:22

So gross!

Cognacsoft · 24/07/2022 15:24

@MintyApple that’s reminded me of school dinners, sponge pudding - nice but with mint flavoured green custard poured over.🤢

Mint custard was the very best thing about school dinners!

It's too hot for custard so ice-cream was a good idea...but mint??

My rule is if you are having ice cream with something it has to be vanilla. If on it's own then yep, flavoured ice cream is good.

An F for DH.

True. I nearly walked out of Little Miss Sunshine when the girl orders something a la mode and it comes with chocolate ice cream.

BigFatLiar · 24/07/2022 15:30

Did he intentionally get mint ice cream or was it a case of ice cream that'll do not considering the flavour.

It could have been worse , I saw some bubblegum flavour ice cream last week 😯

My friend's daughter had a tub of bubblegum and candyfloss flavoured icecream at an English Heritage property a few weeks back. She said it was amazing (she's seven).

I've had blue cheese ice- cream , which was also surprisingly nice.

Blue cheese ice-cream would go with apple pie.

I've commented on here before about my husband's bizarre obsession with gravy. It's manic.

His most recent was he whipped out the bisto for Gravalax Salmon because it was 'no different' than the chippy.

He repulses and terrifies me in equal measure.

Horrific. Puts my husband's order of scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon and baked beans - yes, all on the same plate - in the shade.

Greenginghamdress · 24/07/2022 15:53

Whats the issue?
It sounds yummy 😋

RicherThanYew · 24/07/2022 13:43

Poor Op. My DH did similar, except he brought home Turkish delight flavour ice cream 🙄😂

<misses point of thread>

Turkish delight flavoured ice-cream?? Where did he find such a thing of beauty?

CradleWin · 24/07/2022 15:58

100% something DH would do, absolutely crazy behaviour!

Lock them up and throw away the key 🤢

Beans apparently go with absolutely everything here as well... Hmm

Waitrose Turkish delight ice cream is lovely- raspberry ice cream with sweet rose gel rippled through. I ate with fresh red fruits but would be amazing on a warm chocolate something!!

oviraptor21 · 24/07/2022 16:01

Anyone who buys toothpaste mint ice cream is divorce worthy, no matter what the excuse is.

SweetRuby · 24/07/2022 16:05

Oh I love mint ice cream, my local supermarket had a gorgeous one which had a layer of dark chocolate on top, then the feckers got rid of it and replaced it with some strawberry concoction. I was gutted. The Apple tart I could take or leave, I definitely wouldn't waste good mint ice cream on it.

FlyingUnicornWings · 24/07/2022 16:09

My husband had mint choc chip ice cream with apple crumble once (because it was the only ice cream we had) AND enjoyed it.

I’ve never got over it.

CallOnMe · 24/07/2022 16:14

YABVU

Mint choc chip ice cream is the best flavour by far!!
Who cares what it’s meant to accompany.

Have the apple pie first and then the ice cream afterwards or later on.

I think he should divorce you for not rejoicing when you saw mint ice cream 😁

QuestionableMouse · 24/07/2022 16:18

Mint ice cream is minging and would absolutely ruin a nice apple pie.

And now I want apple pie but can't get one cause I'm plagued and can't go out!
