In schools. That boyfriends (invariably ) could just turn up in classes
See. Bruce almighty. Yesterday. Cheaters.

Police officers don't drive everywhere with blues & twos & certainly never when they've just arrested someone

Especially amusing when they sneak up on the burglary in action, with sirens a go go! Also annoys me when they plainly don't get ranks right. Calling someone Inspector, who is wearing Sgt's uniform, or variations on that.

University lecturers always live in a beautiful North Oxford town house. Even when they are working at Gas Street University College.

That librarians stamp books. No need, with barcodes.

That we 'shush' readers. I'm more likely to be the person making the noise.

The librarians at my local library do stamp a book if you're collecting it from the desk!

NeedleWielder · 24/07/2022 09:11

That acupuncturists put somewhere between 500 and 100 needles on a patient, most of them all over their head.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 24/07/2022 09:11

@BobMortimersPocketMeat 😂Oh dear

When detectives are so incompetent that they need a nosy author to come along and solve the crime. Looking at you, Jessica Fletcher!

Canyoulookinyourmagicbox · 24/07/2022 09:11

My husband is diabetic, it drives him mad when a diabetic person on TV is hypo and they give them the dramatic looking insulin injection rather than the less dramatic chocolate bar/sweet drink. He's also a violinist so can never understand why they don't just get some musician extras in rather than the ones that obviously can't play but are pretending in that quartet at the back of the scene...

As for me, I work in a care home so find depictions of death on the screen so annoying, they are absolutely fine usually, then gasp their last breath. In reality there would be very little movement and no speaking for at least the last two days. Plus they look like guess what.

GretaVanFleet · 24/07/2022 09:12

That there's always lots of parking spaces right outside the office. In reality if you're in later than 8am you don't stand a chance of finding free parking

Me and DH mention this all the time, regardless of whether it’s a seaside town, residential street or city there’s always plenty of parking.

GetThatHelmetOn · 24/07/2022 09:13

Those sword battles…. What’s the point of hitting each other’s swords? The sim is to hit the other person.

That judges use gavels

You mean to say you don't?

How on earth do you manage to bring an unruly courtroom to order without one??

ForestofD · 24/07/2022 09:23

It's my husband's and utterly mundane.

In a commercial kitchen you advised to have certain chopping boards for certain items- e.g. yellow for cooked meat, brown for veg, blue for fish etc. (Or something like that- I can never remember!)

All chefs in the kitchen keep to this for food hygiene.

I'll be watching something and I will hear 'wrong board!'

TheMoth · 24/07/2022 08:58

Yep. Been there. Schools always have so much more going on in telly too.

A real life school newspaper would be:
It's anti bullying week for the second time this month. Remember kids: don't bully.
It's theme day in the canteen on Thursday. You're probably best bringing your own lunch that day.
Can people please stop vandalising... everything please?
Football team won/ lost against some other kids. There are no other sports in school, so don't worry about that.

Laughing at this. Meat free Monday was so dire. Plus stop vandalising your own bogs

That in unruly classrooms, students take it in turns to shout out.

🤣 yes how very polite of them lol. No one ever swears at teachers either 🤷🏻‍♀️

None in any uk courts. There’s a cool twitter account called inappropriate gavels

Not my job but it really winds me up when people just get drunk and then married at a Chapel in Vegas. You still need to go and get a wedding license, yes you can get married at 2 in the morning but you still need to have the bloomin paperwork!

DilemmaDelilah · 24/07/2022 09:28

@arrogantorwhat37 which portrayal? Mine? Or the other one? I'm not saying that things don't get shut down but you don't know what is happening behind the scenes. In most cases the situation would be a whole lot worse (meaning more things shut down) if the months of really hard work done by the admin types hadn't been done. There just isn't enough money!

Timeturnerplease · 24/07/2022 06:55

That teachers sit in a staffroom and have lunch.

Pre COVID that's exactly what happened at the Primary school I taught at. At least 8 of us would meet in the staffroom and eat lunch together. No idea if it still happens as I've been out of teaching for a year thank God

DilemmaDelilah · 24/07/2022 09:34

Just finished watching 'Another Life' series. Team in space for months - but Cass, who started off with a platinum blonde ultra short cut, still had a platinum blonde ultra short cut at the end. They had various trials and tribulations and I don't think a) she would have time to re-bleach her hair b) she would be allowed to bring/use that sort of chemical into space c) she would be able to give herself that very excellent cut (which never got any longer).

ErrolTheDragon · 24/07/2022 09:35

My husband is diabetic, it drives him mad when a diabetic person on TV is hypo and they give them the dramatic looking insulin injection rather than the less dramatic chocolate bar/sweet drink.

You mean if they're still conscious? DM had a few hypos where she lost consciousness, the paramedics would give her an injection - it's glucagon not insulin.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/07/2022 09:38

As a fairly keen gardener, I'm always a little disturbed by the (completely understandable) issue of the wisteria over the cottage door etc being in bloom continuously for the whole of a drama which is supposed to cover months or years.

CoffeeWithCheese · 24/07/2022 09:39

I remember being in surgery having a stuck placenta removed after having DD2 (who arrived so rapidly I almost managed to re-enact the Neighbours birth where Daphne didn't even get to remove her denim dungarees - I have precipitate labours) and we ended up having a wonderful mutual bitching session about how inaccurate Waterloo Road was (the guy's son was a newly qualified teacher) and how the surgery scenes in Holby City were also crappy.

I'm now a speech and language therapist - when do you ever see us on TV or film apart from the King's Speech - if you do it's usually just spending hours with one child getting them to pronounce their s-es... I work with adults!

That we are all fusty elderly women who spend all day picking through the donations, putting the best stuff aside for ourselves. Charity shop worker, I'm the oldest here at 45!

To be fair you just described my mum lol

Woodlandarchitect22 · 24/07/2022 09:42

That all architects are dapper and charming sexy men. With glasses 🥴

Woodlandarchitect22 · 24/07/2022 09:45

And that architectural offices are full of desks covered in artistic sketches with classy design accessories, cool stationary in abundance and prints on the wall.

Cute 3D models of architecture everywhere.

this isn’t true either.

Lucienandjean · 24/07/2022 09:49

Everything people have already said about teaching, but also that a teacher can afford a massive house in south-east England, on one salary. I wish.
