to be really annoyed at that smug sexist Strawberry Shortcake advert

I just hate it! Why oh why do they market anything to do with baking / cooking at little girls only? (Big Cook Little Cook excluded but they cook crap anyway if I am honest) DP used to be a chef and DS loves anything to do with cooking. I just know he would love that magazine if it wasn't so bloody girly and pink and cutesy. Grrrr!!

And at the end when the smug mum bends down with the tea towel and the syrupy voiceover says "Now you can cook just like mum". Erm right, so we are now back in the 50's where men don't cook, only women and little girls.

This rant probably looks a little irrational but hey. Its one of those adverts that makes me gnash my teeth

You are quite right. Very irritating. And dowright sexist.

Cappuccino · 18/01/2008 13:51

"now you can cook just like dad' to my dd's would suggest that Strawberry Shortcake was serving up baked beans and burnt blobs made out of fried flour

Cappuccino · 18/01/2008 13:52

sorry about apostrophe

good grief

motherinferior · 18/01/2008 13:52

I feel your pain.

motherinferior · 18/01/2008 13:53

I thought your partner, like mine, was a dab hand with the chorizo (sniggers childishly), Cappster?

Cappuccino · 18/01/2008 13:53

MI be more specific

pain about the advert

pain about the blobs

or pain about the apostrophe?

Iklboo · 18/01/2008 13:53

Id hate to go to Big Cook Little Cook's cafe. T'other week some poor sod had to wait 4 days while they grew some mung beans!

Cappuccino · 18/01/2008 13:54

oh sorry MI

yes he can do chorizo but not for the children

they would just stare at it

motherinferior · 18/01/2008 13:54

Well, the advert. But obviously the apostrophe is causing me Untold Suffering as well.

Iklboo · 18/01/2008 13:54

DAMMIT - who nicked me apostrophe?!

Cappuccino · 18/01/2008 13:55

he is going away for a fortnight

the Coffee House is going on a sausage detox

notalone · 18/01/2008 13:55

Poor Dh had to listen to me rant about this advert last night it's just so crap isn't it?

motherinferior · 18/01/2008 13:56

I like chorizo.

Although possibly Mr Inferior's reliance on it has slightly lessened my affections for it.

Cappuccino · 18/01/2008 13:58

David Tennant likes it as well

me and Pruni are stocking up

chrissnow · 18/01/2008 13:59

I object to it on principal. 4.99 for a rolling pin and a recipe!!!!! I hate these 'collection' mags that start of at 99p then have 163 subsequent 4.99 ones. Such a bleedin' rip off. My 2 are welcome to some wooden spoons/baking trays etc and some recipe books from the charity shop!!!
But then I am tight.
And yes it is an annoying chintzy 50's sexist ad!! (and I'm usually very lax about sexism)

motherinferior · 18/01/2008 14:00

Nooo, I will wow him with my Chorizo Expertise.

But goshdarn, the OP, yes, totally bloody maddening. And I speak as someone who likes baking. (It produces Cake.)

notalone · 18/01/2008 14:02

Yeah they are a rip off too. I remember seeing something on watchdog or something similar once about a collection magazine where you gradually build a boat ended up costing hundreds and hundreds of pounds. All for a boat that looked like it cost about £2 from a charity shop

Anchovy · 18/01/2008 14:05

Mr Anchovy is a big chorizo man. He works near a fantastic Spanish deli where they do many different varieties. We are well known for peddling our chorizo to appreciating types, although I did feel he had somewhat overreached himself when he said "By the way, I gave some chorizo while you were away".

I think I would like Mr Inferior. I do not recognise the concept of being Over-Chorizo-ed.

motherinferior · 18/01/2008 14:51

Ah, I would love a spot of Chorizo Variation. I find sticking with the same chorizo week in week out makes me yearn for new porcine variety.

bellabelly · 18/01/2008 23:48

It is awful - saw it for first time the other day and was at the blatant sexism and [vomit] at all that pink everywhere.

unknownrebelbang · 19/01/2008 00:01

Yukky advert.

DH does most of the cooking in our house...sets a wonderful example to my boys, hehe.
