Port of Dover Critical Incident

AndreaC74 · 22/07/2022 09:27

Why are we blaming the french? they didn't vote for Brexit and aren't responsible for increasing/paying for extra capacity at the French border posts on UK soil.

Stamping passports is what happens to 3rd country nationals & that adds time, a lot of it, when dealing with 100s of '000s of passengers, plus having recently been to France, i ve seen UK people arguing with French officials because they don't want their passports stamped!

The UK seems incapable of organising anything at the moment, the numbers travelling across the channel is entirely predictable and delays we are now seeing were talked about pre 2016, i remember seeing the graphs on how long the queues would be for just a few seconds of delay for each passenger.... all Project Fear.

Shame there can't be a separate queue for 'I didn't vote for this shit' people

Indeed!

riesenrad · 22/07/2022 10:51

Obviously nothing to do with Brexit. There are shortage of staff problems across Europe

The point is that if we hadn't voted for Brexit, the French wouldn't be carrying out checks to the same extent or needing to stamp passports. So the staff levels might be enough in that instance.

Please tell me this is a satirical post because otherwise I am cringing for you 😂

I'm giving @jgw1 the benefit of the doubt and assuming it is satirical but sadly, it's likely enough people voted for Brexit on exactly that basis to end up with the result we did.

Like the British pensioners who lived in Spain who were interviewed about their voting intentions on BBC Breakfast, who said, in all seriousness, that they were voting to leave the EU 'because there's too much immigration these days'.

You couldn't make it up.

SuperCamp · 22/07/2022 10:53

jgw1 · 22/07/2022 10:31

Well I voted for ending freedom of movement to stop foreigners coming here and taking our jobs and living on benefits. I did not vote to make any changes for me going on holiday.

Can you talk us through your vision of border control in a post Brexit situation, please? To allow free passage for holiday makers while screening other EU nationals? (The only people with free movement).

As you must have thought about it in detail before you cast your vote.

Mustn’t you?

stoneysongs · 22/07/2022 10:54

That is because we are yet to have a brexiteer prime minister. Once Liz Truss is in then it will all be sorted.

😂😂
Keep up the good work @jgw1

If I was French I wouldn't let us in either. We are a nation of wankers ruled by wankers. We got the government we deserved!

Absolutely.

theemmadilemma · 22/07/2022 09:46

So it's the French and Covid? There are no covid checks entering France now by plane, why would the port be different?

Shame there can't be a seperate queue for 'I didn't vote for this shit' people.

Great idea, I might get a 'I didn't vote for this shit' T shirt for when I'm travelling. Also, just checked and loads of companies are selling them!

SuperCamp · 22/07/2022 10:56

Oh, actually I GET IT! That’s why we needed blue passports! To distinguish them from FOREIGNERS red ones.

The answer to all our queues!

Bellatrix13 · 22/07/2022 10:56

Why would people not want their passports stamped? I love looking at all the stamps in my passport from countries I’d been to

Brexit shows that it is the will of the people to keep foreigners out. That has nothing to do with the horrible French messing up my holiday that I have worked hard to have.

BlackTourmaline · 22/07/2022 10:57

Well…this is unexpected 🤦‍♀️

BlackTourmaline · 22/07/2022 10:58

Excellent work @jgw1 😂

Theeyeballsinthesky · 22/07/2022 11:00

Lol at the idea the French should spend money employing extra staff to make it easier for the British when we voted to leave

HannahSternDefoe · 22/07/2022 11:01

Because we always blame the french, it's tradition.

They gave us douze points in Eurovision.🤷‍♀️

@jgw1 how's that going for you at the mo? 🤔

Every year it's the same. There are long queues. I remember takin a cruise from Dover and having to ho down the night before and stay at a hotel rather than travel down in the morning. We had to come off further up the motorway because it was jammed.

The port has done huge planning with the French to make sure there was smooth through flow. Brexit didn't just happen last week. It happened 2½ yrs ago. They know how many people can be got through and therefore how many staff they need. The French just didn't supply the numbers they'd committed to.
But, yeah, just blame Brexit like this has never happened before. 🙄

Its hard to know which thread to post on to get the most enjoyment. Everything the government is doing is unravelling so fast.

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see. ' Nothing to do with Brexit' is the retort from some despite many trying to explain it is and why. Deflection and distraction from those same people. Love threads like these. We're Brits how dare anyone especially the French disrespect us. Sympathies to those who suffer because of these idiots.

because they rely on the tourist €€€€

And they’ll continue to receive those euros from tourists from all over the EU, and the rest of the world too. I think you’re overestimating the importance of English tourism. Perhaps they’re just not that interested in allowing the smooth flow over the channel anymore, or at least it’s not the priority you think it is.

Then they should have told the Dover port authorities upfront so they could take preventative action.

I think it is probably because the French sent over the wrong kind of staff in some beastly trick.
Actually why are the French even working at our Port of Dover, we should just tell them to pack their bags.
