Port of Dover Critical Incident

Why are we blaming the french? they didn't vote for Brexit and aren't responsible for increasing/paying for extra capacity at the French border posts on UK soil.

Stamping passports is what happens to 3rd country nationals & that adds time, a lot of it, when dealing with 100s of '000s of passengers, plus having recently been to France, i ve seen UK people arguing with French officials because they don't want their passports stamped!

The UK seems incapable of organising anything at the moment, the numbers travelling across the channel is entirely predictable and delays we are now seeing were talked about pre 2016, i remember seeing the graphs on how long the queues would be for just a few seconds of delay for each passenger.... all Project Fear.

In 2015 the British economy lost £250 million a day for 24 days due to the French striking at Calais

Problems in 2016 and 2018 as well:

25 July 2016
Motorists queue for up to 14 hours in Dover traffic chaos...

The Port of Dover authority said the French border control booths in Dover were "seriously understaffed" on Friday night [22 July 2016] when problems began.

Kent County Council said at one stage only one French officer was available to check passengers on hundreds of coaches, resulting in each coach taking 40 minutes to process.

28 July 2018
Travellers heading to the Continent were left stuck in their cars as traffic came to a standstill on the M20 and A20 heading to Dover and Folkestone.
Eurotunnel warned of delays of about two-and-a-half hours for cars and five hours for lorries...
Delays were blamed on the air conditioning breaking down in the 30C heat...

Christ the mental gymnastics people will go through in order to deny the blindingly obvious and long foreseen fact that voting for a hard border with Europe will mean more checks between UK and France, which take longer and will lead to delays, especially at Dover which is a bottleneck at the best of times.

Cross-Channel ferry passengers are reporting delays of several hours on roads in Dover.

Why are you making fun of a child crying?

Why are you making fun of a child crying?

Its the mentality of SOME remainers. They can't use their words and use a meme instead.

HannibalHeyes · 24/07/2022 21:51

You Brexshitteers are hilarious!

HarrietPierce · 24/07/2022 21:58

"Why are you making fun of a child crying?"

It's a depiction of the Brexiteers tantrums.

Sometimeswinning · 24/07/2022 21:59

HannibalHeyes · 24/07/2022 21:51

You Brexshitteers are hilarious!

Still can articulate! Not used a meme yet. It's not actually needed if you know what you are talking about. (Choosing not to use an emoji here)

pointythings · 24/07/2022 22:03

The version of this image that is circulating has the caption 'It's not due to Brexit! It's not, it's not, it's not!'

Which rather neatly sums up this thread.

DuncinToffee · 24/07/2022 22:05

Was a critical incident called during all those examples?

Sometimeswinning · 24/07/2022 22:09

Also sums up remainers like you. Something about a bus and passports I'd imagine!

DuncinToffee · 24/07/2022 22:15

Sometimeswinning, that slogan on the bus, was it true or was it a lie?

Lonelycrab · 24/07/2022 22:18

Also sums up remainers like you

It doesn’t though.. “Remainers” (actually there’s nothing to remain in now as we’ve left) aren’t crying, they’re expecting this, and are simply observing a government that’s full of shit disappear up its own arsehole in a dismal attempt to deflect the consequences of its batshit decisions.

imo.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-49138975

Yes - Dover is a busy port and delays happen.

I will try a question.

What do you think the impact of a hard border will be on the Dover ferry port ?

You might like to reference passport controls, passport stamps, customs checks, biometric passport checks, taking fingerprints, asking people if they have enough funds to stay in the EU, their reasons for entering the EU, the infrastructure at Dover, the surrounding roads and lorries.

pointythings · 24/07/2022 22:20

@Sometimeswinning it doesn't really sum up the (formerly) remainer position. There isn't a Remain any more, in case you hadn't noticed. There's a 'Please God let someone see sense and join the Single Market before the economy tanks even further' position. The meme sums up the Leaver position, since Leavers seem to be unable to accept that any of the adverse things happening right now are due to Brexit, even when they manifestly are. Mental gymnastics at Olympic level.

Sometimeswinning · 24/07/2022 22:21

DuncinToffee · 24/07/2022 22:15

Sometimeswinning, that slogan on the bus, was it true or was it a lie?

I'm guessing someone in power had it printed. Nigel perhaps?? Remember it was him who said this on gmtv I think!

stoneysongs · 24/07/2022 22:23

But was it true or was it a lie? It's a simple enough question.

cakeorwine · 24/07/2022 22:25

All Brexit has done is just made things harder. There will always be problems with Dover - Brexit and the hard border just makes things harder. We've added friction to a border. And then it just makes it harder to trade, and to pass easily between countries.

Sometimeswinning · 24/07/2022 22:32

stoneysongs · 24/07/2022 22:23

But was it true or was it a lie? It's a simple enough question.

Sorry. My mistake!

It was Nigel Farage. He had no power and no say.

He lied!!!! I knew this and still voted leave!! I even said it on the day he announced his shit. Which is why I have a memory of him on gmtv! Like any money saved was going to be poured into our NHS!

Notonthestairs · 24/07/2022 22:35

How odd. People who voted for a hard border complain about hard border.

The slogan in the bus wasn't challenged by a single proponent of Leave. They were more than happy to see the populace misled and then pretend it was nothing to do with them.

Johnson was photographed in front of the slogan pointing to it!

grannybiker · 24/07/2022 22:40

The port's simply not big enough! In 2016 we came back from Eurodisney at the end of half term and the chaos was very similar. Needs to be larger and fully staffed

cakeorwine · 24/07/2022 22:46

The issue with Dover is there is little room to expand. Unless they built into the Channel
