Port of Dover Critical Incident

AndreaC74 · 22/07/2022 09:27

Why are we blaming the french? they didn't vote for Brexit and aren't responsible for increasing/paying for extra capacity at the French border posts on UK soil.

Stamping passports is what happens to 3rd country nationals & that adds time, a lot of it, when dealing with 100s of '000s of passengers, plus having recently been to France, i ve seen UK people arguing with French officials because they don't want their passports stamped!

The UK seems incapable of organising anything at the moment, the numbers travelling across the channel is entirely predictable and delays we are now seeing were talked about pre 2016, i remember seeing the graphs on how long the queues would be for just a few seconds of delay for each passenger.... all Project Fear.

The French tonight are saying the issue is caused by a technical issue their side.

Why that is caused by Brexit I do not know.

Perhaps it is simply time to accept a referendum was done and life has moved on. If it really grates so much then start a political party to rejoin the EU and do it that way but it is very tedious where every single issue gets blamed on Brexit!

Rosehugger · 22/07/2022 20:14

Which just goes to show we should have followed Nigel Farage's suggestion and had a Norway style arrangement with the EU. As it was we have a wishy washy remainer Brexit that no one is happy with

Norway was never an option. And even if it was, a bunch of Tory twats would've blocked it. The only Nigel Farage suggestion we should ever agree to is if he suggests he should have a one way trip to Jupiter.

Are there baggage problems at Dover?

Did you see Panorama?

Now that we are free of the EU we do not have to follow the common agricultural policy

That's good - Macron described the Common Agricultural Policy as "not fit for purpose" several years ago.

Frankly, anyone who voted for Brexit should have the word 'IDIOT' tattooed on their forehand in union jacket colours and daily mail type font, then covered in honey, feathered and, finally, fed to the lions. French lions.

I like your thinking. 😄

Now that we are free of the EU we do not have to follow the common agricultural policy we have much more control of our farming and together with the wonderful trade deals Liz Truss has achieved we have far greater food insecurity now than we did before.

Do you think that the UK can take control of cattle farts. I do hope so. I would hate to think the EU benefited from our cow farts in any way. It would deeply upset me if I am honest.

Of course Norway was an option. Farage said so.

cakeorwine · 22/07/2022 20:18

Dover doesn't seem to have much room for expansion - what with those cliffs and the town.

Unlike Calais and Dunkirk which just has loads of space.

Maybe we need some more Channel ports?

DuncinToffee · 22/07/2022 20:19

Did you see Panorama?

Is that a yes or a no?

ZenNudist · 22/07/2022 20:20

Brexiteers need to own this. We were warned there would be gridlock in Kent and lo there is gridlock in Kent. Nope it is covid, or the French, or anything else that isn't blaming the root cause. Brexit.

Arseholes.

'The French tonight are saying the issue is caused by a technical issue their side.'

'Why that is caused by Brexit I do not know.'

Someone on the telly probably said it. Doesn't take much to set them off. I'm surprised the 2 day heatwave wasn't Because Of Brexit.

After Gin O Clock, Clavinova doesn't know her name.

The French tonight are saying the issue is caused by a technical issue their side.

Reported here;

PARIS – The local French police body handling the northern France area around the Channel Tunnel said on Friday that problems with traffic coming over from Dover had been caused by an “unexpected technical incident” under the Channel Tunnel.
The police added that they would work closely with their British counterparts to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible in the coming days.

@JaniieJones did Boris have an illegal birthday party because of Brexit?

Rosehugger · 22/07/2022 20:23

For a country where the majority of voters decided to leave the EU They didn't. Loads of people weren't arsed either way and didn't vote nearly half of those voting voted to remain. So actually a minority positively wanted to leave.

Interesting

"French police blamed an “unexpected technical incident” in the Channel tunnel that delayed the morning arrival of border control officers in Dover by more than an hour. The tunnel operator, Getlink, said a signal cable was repaired at 7.30am but this was not to blame, pointing out that the “critical incident” at Dover was declared several hours earlier."

Maybe there are lots of things going on....unfortunately people live in a binary world of blame.

Brexit certainly doesn't help when it comes to extra checks at a busy ferry port with 1000s of people trying to get on a ferry.

Bunnyfuller · 22/07/2022 20:06

@jgw1 i know a fair few farmers, and they feel utterly duped by Brexit and are selling farms left right and centre as without EU subsidies, or labour, they can no longer break even.

They were warned. Personal experience in this.

Poor them.

No sympathy.

They don't like c&p aka as evidence but still, irrefutable evidence it wasn't BOB!! (Because Of Brexit). Oh dear, a whole thread of outrage wasted. Cake anyone?

And yet.....

"French police blamed an “unexpected technical incident” in the Channel tunnel that delayed the morning arrival of border control officers in Dover by more than an hour. So who knows....

Do you think that increased levels of passport checks will hinder the flow of passengers at Dover?

BirmaBrite · 22/07/2022 20:29

did Boris have an illegal birthday party because of Brexit?

I suspect Boris would have had illegal parties left, right and centre regardless of Brexit. We only found about them, because he was elected PM, to get Brexit done.

Did you notice @JaniieJones how the incident was in an area operated by Eurotunnel.
One can tell from the name that it is European and therefore foreigners fault.

Rosehugger · 22/07/2022 20:30

Farage said so

He was never an MP or in government.

It is a good thing that there are increased passport checks of people coming into the country in Dover. We do not want all kind of foreign criminals coming here, taking our jobs and living off benefits.

Quite why this has meant delays for people going to France on holiday i do not know, they are just British holidaymakers who have done nothing wrong.

If only he had of been we would have had a proper Brexit and not this remoaner stitch up. Hopefully though Liz Truss can sort it out.

cakeorwine · 22/07/2022 20:43

Maybe Truss or Sunak should do a deal with the French so people from the UK don't need to have their passports checked because we're special?

I don't know if having the electronic visa system that you have to pay for will be quicker or not? Either way, there are still a lot of cars with their occupants who need to get through Dover.
