A Queen's guard being given water. Can you imagine wearing a wool jacket & bearskin hat in this heat? This uniform needs rethinking for extreme heat.

Making that man stand in the heat in that get up risked his health for no good reason, whatsoever. Honestly the pomp and ceremony around the Royals is ludicrous. And Charles the other day saying he'd warned everyone for years already about climate change and kind of bitterly laughing as he said it. The arrogance that it might not have occurred to millions of us, too is staggering. The monarchy needs to be wound up and their massive wealth put to better use.

Aren't they meant to be in the armed forces? Wouldn't they be expected to tolerate much worse than this in war conditions? I would imagine they have measures in place for dealing with this and have briefed their guards. The optics don't look good I agree - but neither do photos of hundreds of people crowded on a beach, with nowhere to pee, frying under a baking sun.

Difference between having to tolerate it in war conditions and having to tolerate it because of tradition?

Maybe they do have precautions in place?
Maybe they have carried out a full health and safety assessment and taken appropriate steps to reduce the risk to the individual.

It put a whole new perspective on all the Pomp and Ceremony to add Grandeur to Power and that someone actually tried to honestly do his job as an MP representing his community . It was all the Ceremonies and costumes that united those above questioning that just swept any casualties under the rug. Those needing to be questioned were literally dressed in Ermine robes and Gold Medallions representing the Crown by that costume as being beyond reproach . So to me such costumes are to dehumanise or idolise false narratives. See the human beyond the costume. All the gold and the fur it’s an outdated fetish of power. It’s all Ceremony and symbolic though I suppose to wear a Bear’s skin. I don’t think wearing a mono fibre version is the answer or unquestioning duty.

@cakeorwine I think you miss the point though. Soldiers go out and do their duty whatever the conditions. They’d be no use if they turned up in Mali or Somalia and hadn’t got the endurance to be there. They’d put themselves and others in danger.

All of our neighbours on the patch were out running with their weighted day sacks yesterday. They go out whatever the weather.

I have to ask how many of you went out for a meal at a pub or restaurant or ordered a take away during this weather?

This is not the gotcha you think it is.
This guard was performing essentially for the tourists. There was zero practical reason to have him wearing this hat in a heatwave. If it was just about security he could stand there with the hat off. But he had to keep his hat on so tourists could take photos.
That is what is inhuman.

MY friend district nurse has to wear full uniform including black tights not allowed to go bare legged. This and wearing a mask too.

Black tights are ridiculous. PPE is different as that has a practical reason.
