Lighthearted*

What do you want to say to me?

As far back as 2019 we were worrying about the use of air conditioning. If it becomes standard then it's going to be an environmental disaster.

I want to say.... where do you live? Because I’m coming round. 😅

Me too. We could run a MN coach to @Breezybarbara house.

Question: do you provide drinks, such as sangria at you house?

OldTinHat · 18/07/2022 09:12

I'd say - what's your address because I'm coming straight round!

MintJulia · 18/07/2022 09:17

No. I don't envy your electricity bills.

I keep my house cool, (windows open, curtains closed, large tree shades the north side of the house etc), drink plenty of fluids and keep my body fat % low so that I can regulate my body heat. I've taken today and tomorrow off, did the essential house work at 5am so now I'm just chilling.

I'm going to have a very slow lazy rest of day, reading and sewing

(while not being smug 😀)

User539280 · 18/07/2022 09:24

Next door have one, there is a big thing on the wall that looks similar to a heat pump, it doesn't seem to be going though because I'm sure it used to make a bit of sound when running and drip a bit, like aircon in cars. I did think of getting a portable but it looked a lot of faff with the hose and our windows didn't look that appropriate for it, I suppose you could plumb them in like a tumble dryer through the wall which would be better.

Eatthecake80 · 18/07/2022 09:27

We looked into having one but apparently it costs £33 a day to run?

Maybe that is why next doors isn't on, the thing on the wall is quite large, they are definitely there and I could always tell it was on before, maybe they had the dripping fixed

EscapeTheCastle · 18/07/2022 09:37

So OP you have proper split air conditioning with the fan outside.

Have you got one fan out side and more than one unit inside? I think they call this multi split.

Did they have to install the units on walls that backed directly outside to run the line more directly to the fan? Or can you put the unit anywhere and the line can be run through the loft and then outside down to the fan?

Don't worry about my electricity bills as I have solar panels so running my air con is free! I am cool and saving money😜

Not unless you're running a full office building. We only have the one unit for our kitchen diner and it was about 10p an hour when we had it installed two years ago. Not sure of the figure now as our usage varies so much I can't pinpoint what is just the air conditioner on our smart meter. We only use it for an hour every once in a while to cool the kitchen down on hot days.

TheFridayRabbit · 18/07/2022 09:48

In my world air conditioning does not equate to cooling, it means keeping the air temperate in both warm and cool seasons.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 18/07/2022 09:50

I bought one two days ago. Best thing I've ever bought. Our flat was 30 degrees and it took it to 24 which is perfect. I had a migraine all last week from the heat.... Was dreading today. It's bloody brilliant.

katesbushh · 18/07/2022 09:52

We have a portable one which is fab.
We have had it on a lot as this house is unbearable in the heat and in the day too as I'm on nights.
I'm a little concerned about how much it costs to run though.

When we move we are definitely having it fitted.
Upstairs mainly I think.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 18/07/2022 09:54

We just bought a "portable" unit. Currently set up so the heat exhaust goes out of the cat flap.

Until about mid day I have all my doors and windows open. At that point I close them and turn on the AC. No way am I going to try and cope with 40 degree heat otherwise!

EscapeTheCastle

None are split, they are all independent. 10
exterior units for each internal.

Be careful opening windows on the warm side of your house. It draws the heat in.

I have air con back home (well, an air pump in the lounge, and a portable one upstairs) but I'm at my parents house now who don't have air con but there seems to be a natural air con here because its always windy somehow, so just open the front and back doors and let the breeze cool us down (not actually hot at all yet, not sure how much hotter it will get)

CoffeeWithCheese · 18/07/2022 09:58

We have portable units in the bedrooms and one moved downstairs at the moment - would not be without them at the moment. Yes, they don't get used a lot, but for when they're needed - they're awesome.

So have you got 10 of those pictured units on the outside of your house, next door just have one but it looks much larger, so probably a different type.

Musti · 18/07/2022 10:01

I wouldn’t use it for more than a few times a year in the UK and I don’t think it is hot enough to justify it (yet). I have lived in countries where I’ve needed it in the summer but otherwise don’t like to use it. Prefer fans/open windows.

User539280 · 18/07/2022 10:06

I think I would be a bit loath to have it upstairs in case DH wanted the bedroom freezing, I only switched off my electric blanket a week ago.

SBAM · 18/07/2022 10:14

We live in the south east, near London and had aircon fitted last year in the master bedroom and one on the upstairs landing (loft conversion) because the kids bedrooms are so hot even in a normal summer. We have one exterior pump unit. It was expensive but totally worth it to be able to sleep comfortably

BeautifulWar · 18/07/2022 10:17

Arh, now I want Sangria this afternoon but I can't be arsed to go to the shops or, risk a vital ingredient being unavailable on a deliveroo drop!

Holidaydreamingagain · 18/07/2022 10:20

I've just arranged for a load of quotes. I am getting it in our loft room and main bedroom

EscapeTheCastle · 18/07/2022 10:22

10 extremal Fujitsu fans outside? Crumbs! I don't see this many on office blocks.
