HMO had two people who constantly drink

I live in a not so great area of town but the streets around me are generally ok.

The house two doors down (about 20 metres away) is a HMO (house of multiple occupants, single rooms let to adults).

it used to be young professionals etc, but recently it’s had two people who are 30/40s and just spend their days drinking at the front of the house.

if I leave the house they are looking in my direction. It’s a six bedroom house - no one decent will want to live with them, so it’s going to become a doss house full of other people like them. They have a back garden. The street is full of children and in my opinion I don’t want them to see this.

the two people sit on the wall adjoining the other house, I would hate to live next to them.

AIBU for thinking that it’s acceptable behaviour and should I call the property manager?

My sister has a bunch like that opposite her house. It's quite handy as they inadvertently keep an eye on her place. There have been neighbourhood burglaries etc but not at her house.

Yes that’s not a bad idea….. issue is it’s winter soon lol.

Fuck me at the lack of critical thinking skills from people sticking up for the OP on this thread. All sorts of assumptions. People having beers in the sun shocker! In their own garden! Who says they are alcoholics? Maybe the OP is an alcoholic given that she stated they approached children but cannot access any further details of this from her memory.

ok shall I be more explicit?

They don’t work. They drink all day. They are in their 40s and renting a room in a home.… could their life be any less stable?

*It’s a HmO and yes they have less rights.

issue is now that class of resident lives there, other people won’t want to move in.

so soon I’ll have 6 people living in a House, all not working….*

Okay OP at first I thought ooo yeah maybe they are drunk giving you evils.... now what I actually think is that you are turning your nose up at them and they have picked up on that silver spoon hanging out your arse...

What business is it of yours?

beautyisthefaceisee · 17/07/2022 21:33

You just sound so judgemental.

If they want to drink in their own bloody garden that's up to them, unless they are upsetting you or your children which it doesn't appear they are.

Sounds quite stable to me.

Comedycook · 17/07/2022 21:34

I'd be wondering if they were ex offenders?

OP, given your adventures / failures in online dating it sounds like these are about as good as it’ll get for you romantically, and it’s time for you to buy a six pack and join them.

🤣

there is no excuse for being a piss head at the front of your house

im sorry about your mental health problems, and I’m sorry the sight of these men causes you issues. The truth is they don’t need an excuse. They are fully able to do this. The fact you personally don’t like it and it causes you mental health issues I’m afraid doesn’t change this. People are allowed to drink beer in their front garden, you will need to accept this, I’m sorry.

Everyone giving you a hard time are the same who would complain if it happened to them. What can you do? Find out who the landlord is and see if tenancy agreements include use of front garden.

Mothapples · 17/07/2022 21:44

I think it's fair enough if people disagree with the OP but there's some weird gaslighting going on on this thread, suggesting the OP is stalking her neighbours or that there's something wrong with the way she looks and that's why the men are staring. Not necessary.

iklboo · 17/07/2022 21:45

  1. no they don't
  2. it's 'fewer'

So they don't work and drink all day and night, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, look at you and approach children?

Have you not approached the Landlord? Ask him/her to only rent to employed non drinkers?

Areil · 17/07/2022 21:48

I'd love to know how being in an HMO means you can't sit in your garden because you have less rights.

Why would tenants not be allowed to use their front garden?!

And why does everyone think the problem would disappear and the remaining rooms would be more appealing to rent if they sit in the back garden instead?!

Or OP should keep her nose out and get on with her day. Are you seriously suggesting she should stop these people using their front garden. I know let's make a new rule that all the low class scum are made hide away in with their filthy tins.

They can't afford a house of their own, how dare they use a front garden

No I wouldn't.

Areil · 17/07/2022 21:55

I sat out the front earlier with a tin (of lemon Fanta) because my front garden gets the sun in the evening 🤷🏼‍♀️. I spoke to the kids that were playing.

Didn't think I did anything wrong?

AbreathofFrenchair · 17/07/2022 21:56

Odrama456 · 17/07/2022 20:15

Errrrr who’s being judgemental, apart from you?

I don’t give two flying Fs if they have mental health issues…. But if they do and it shows in them drinking outside everyday, we then it does become my issue. what about my mental health? Just because I don’t drink doesn’t mean I don’t have mental health issues.

there is no excuse for being a piss head at the front of your house.

How can you deny being judgemental when all your replies are exactly that?!

You must be on the wind up now?! 😂

Lowering the tone of the street, alcoholics, in their 40s, unstable etc etc

Yeah, not judgemental at all 😂😂

AbreathofFrenchair · 17/07/2022 21:57

Odrama456 · 17/07/2022 19:50

It’s not a deteriorating area. It’s an area where rents are lower than others. Like comparing Notting Hill to Brixton…..

and it’s heaps more socially acceptable to drink in your back garden, especially when you have your top of and drinking all day.

The person I quoted said it was deteriorating the area and that who I was replying to, not you.

Complain to whom?

The OP actually thinks she has a right to stop this happening.

When did it become staring? She started off upset that they looked at her.

ladygindiva · 17/07/2022 22:02

Maybe your neighbours know the bloke you did a runner from in the beer garden

Careful OP will have you off for a breathalyse.

I had a can of rockstar and spoke to a wean on the street who was super cute and said hello. Outrageous.
