Christmas presents in July

LionKween · 15/07/2022 16:05

I know itโ€™s July ๐Ÿ˜‚, just wondering if anyone else has already bought Christmas presents? I found some really nice jumpers and other clothing in the sale (60% off), so I bought them and will keep for Christmas, mainly to spread the cost out a bit. My friend thinks Iโ€™m being very unreasonable, but is it that bad..? ๐ŸŽ„Just hoping Iโ€™ll remember by then where I hid them..

I can't do it. I get over excited and give the presents early ๐Ÿคช

willowglass · 15/07/2022 17:14

Yesterday I bought and wrapped three for the first time ever before autumn. Like others spreading the cost. Also scaling back a bit. Same with long life Christmas food. Started that in April.

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2022 17:15

Not specifically Christmas presents, but I keep my open for suitable gifts all year round. I've usually got things for birthdays and Christmas months in advance.

I find I no longer do that last minute frantic shop for anything that'll just about do, but instead I have something carefully chosen.

hangrylady · 15/07/2022 17:17

I don't but it's actually a really good idea to spread the cost over the year

ScampiFlies · 15/07/2022 17:20

I do it too. I'm putting money aside and following the Christmas bargain thread on here. I hate the stress of last minute shopping and enjoy planning Christmas Smile

What food did you buy @willowglass ?

I've usually completed my Christmas shopping by the end of Feb tbh, everything in the sales, most is Christmassy themed too.

Newestname002 · 15/07/2022 17:45

There are so many great sales on at the moment I definitely am buying stuff - especially items I probably couldn't afford full price. Don't forget to use online vouchers, if available, to bring the price down further. I'm also investigating cash-back sites like Quidco. I haven't got my head around them yet.. ๐ŸŒน

Cuwins · 15/07/2022 17:49

Yes I have brought quite a few bits for my DD for Christmas and her first birthday in Feb- all either in very good sales (50% off) or second hand.
Also brought part of my partners and sister again both 50% off or more

Thegreatestshowoff · 15/07/2022 18:29

Why wouldnโ€™t you when there are so many good sales on? Love the Xmas threads on here!

Loics · 15/07/2022 18:31

I'll be honest, I finished this year's Christmas shopping a couple of months ago. ๐Ÿ˜ณ I get anxious if I haven't got presents well in advance, I hate rushing in general.
DP on the other hand, is a last minute Christmas Eve shopper. ๐Ÿ˜‚

MissusPongo · 15/07/2022 18:33

Keep thinking I should do this but I worry that I'll either forget about them or else be so sick of looking at them by Christmas that I end up buying other stuff then as well. I am making lists though!

HintofVintagePink · 15/07/2022 18:36

Yes I have. Neptune have got a great sale on at the moment with lots of bath products at great prices.
I start picking up stocking fillers from about now too. Itโ€™s not about being smug for me, just spreading the cost. Particularly this year when energy prices go up in October.

Lalosalamanca · 15/07/2022 18:37

Was it the boden sale op?

DilemmaDelilah · 15/07/2022 18:51

In general I don't get the Christmas presents themselves as we only get one present per person and I like to find out what people actually want rather than just getting something I think they might like - but I do pick up things for the Christmas stockings throughout the year, as the stockings are only small presents. And for my husband, who likes expensive techy things, I might pick something up on Amazon Prime days or in sales... If he has told me what he wants... because I wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise.

Booked · 15/07/2022 19:13

Yep. Lots done. Also got wrapping paper and tags and some food bits like cranberry sauce and chutneys.

JennyForeigner · 15/07/2022 19:19

Yes, I appreciated the prime specials thread the other day, so stocked up on tie-dye kits and similar. Feeling smug ๐Ÿ˜

wwyd2021medicine · 15/07/2022 19:21

I mistakenly thought I'd be able to get a good deal on heated blankets at the mo ๐Ÿ˜ข

princesspeppax · 15/07/2022 19:41

Not unreasonable! I have around half my xmas gifts in, we have such a big family and buying in sales throughout the year saves us a fortune

Mommabear20 · 15/07/2022 19:47

I'm almost finish for Christmas! ๐Ÿ˜‚ of 13 adults and 10 kids we buy for, I'm completely done for 7 kids & 8 adults! And I know what I'm buying for the rest, just haven't got them yet! I'm due our third baby at the beginning of December, so was adamant I wasn't going to be battling the crowds nearer Christmas! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Panicnomore · 15/07/2022 19:47

You are not alone OP. I've bought a few bits in the sales this week myself.
Food items are just a no no... I have zero self restraint!

Lalosalamanca · 15/07/2022 18:37

Was it the boden sale op?

No, not the Boden sale but some Fred Perry knitted jumpers (pretty plain but quality is fairly good) and a couple of pjโ€™s.

Ooh, that must cost a fortune ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜…..but lovely!

I bought a couple of small things on Prime Day, and a couple in a sale/with a voucher in the last couple of days - mostly stuff for DD, to go with whatever โ€œbigโ€ present we end up getting her. I normally buy throughout the year as otherwise Iโ€™d end up overdrawn in December/January. Got most stocking fillers now - will also go and spend ยฃ5 nearer the time in B&M on food items for the stocking (choc Santa, milkshake straws, sweets etc.).

Weโ€™ll be cutting back quite a bit this year I think โ€” not just energy bills but food inflation is really worrying me and just the little bit of extra slack in the budget that I used to normally have is disappearing or already gone. Eeek. I have a few gifts stockpiled for relatives and kids so that will help, but thereโ€™s still food/DD big present/presents for my mum and dad to get.

CoffeeLover90 · 16/07/2022 18:27

Used to buy all presents on Xmas eve haha. Since having DS though I got my act together. I buy decorations in January, reusable advent calendar for a penny was my best purchase. DS's birthday is June, as soon as that's done I start buying for Christmas. I start wrapping as soon as I buy them, paper bought in January and keep a list of what I've bought so I don't lose track. My record - all gifts bought and wrapped by Halloween. I also keep all gifts stored in the same place and in individual bags for family. I spend all of December with my feet up, drinking tea and watching Xmas movies. Best lifestyle change ever ๐Ÿคฃ
