Next Monday/Tuesday 36 degrees!

So the weather is now showing 36 degrees for next Monday and Tuesday for where I live in the south east. Our country is obviously not geared up for these temperatures. I work in education and am seriously considering not going in next Mon/Tues as I know it will be torture in the classroom. I won't be sending my children to school either.
Is anyone going to change what they do next week? Not go to work? Stay inside? Not send children to school? Change mode of transport? Spend all day in an air conditioned supermarket? 😁

I appreciate that the country and workforce can't just stop for a heatwave but at the same time, how can we carry on as normal when we're not equipped for these conditions.

I'm going to work in the air conditioned office, but in travelling there I am going to make sure I have plenty of water with me, sun cream and an umbrella, just in case I break down or get stuck in traffic.

It will be interesting to see whether the power grid holds up to the temperature and drain on the system, plus at that temperature I suspect some roads will start to break up/melt too.

We have pets - one of whom is an absolute heat worshipper (sleeping in our baking conservatory this week with the doors and windows shut!) and the other that hates it. We let them have access to the coolest rooms in the house, even though we don't normally let them have access to these particular rooms normally. DP works from home and will be using the portable A/C unit but again I'm fully expecting some part of the country to suffer with power issues.

We're in the red zone too. Predicted 40 degrees Monday and 37 Tuesday at home and 40 and 38 at work.

There's going to have to be some serious investment in this country as this is happening with more regularity.

Luckily many of the schools near us have broken up today, but I really feel for those that don't have a choice but to be out in the heat.

It's now saying 41 for parts of London on Monday!
