Sorry you have shit neighbours @Wafflesnsniffles but suspect they’d be doing that anyway and it’s not just the movement of booze 20 metres to a garden bar that is the singular cause of this.

Davros · 13/07/2022 00:00

I read years ago that Chav meant Chatham Average...whatever that was supposed to mean.
I'd like a pergola please (with a big rubber tub full of ice and booze. )

Here we go. ‘It’s not your business’ brigade is out in force. People who are so offended that other people have an opinion, but click on the thread for entertainment, get their kicks and then pretend to be self righteous.

Moonface123 · 13/07/2022 00:03

You tend to find bars and hot tubs are fun for people using them, pain in the backside for neighbours.

Rather do that than be triggered over garden furniture

easyday · 13/07/2022 00:14

Hardly going to add value but each to his own. Never seen one in real life though.

blubberyboo · 13/07/2022 00:19

yabu to think you can “LET people do what they want in their gardens”

they don’t require your permission

No actually. Prior to them building the bar.......... they got drunk in their conservatory. Still annoying but not quite as bad. And not quite as close. And far fewer guests (because less space). Its definitely the presence of the bar that magnified the problem. Plus the music was somewhat contained within the conservatory not out in the garden.

craftsupplyhoarder · 13/07/2022 00:42

It's tacky, but as long as it's not in my garden, I don't care. I also think wild parties are tacky, so...

ManateeFair · 13/07/2022 01:08

Always amusing to see the people on Mumsnet who think they are a cut above when it comes to social class unwittingly revealing themselves to be ill-mannered, spiteful and thick.

Also it’s really tedious when people make a point of saying do not know or cannot Google well-known words, phrases or people, just so they can disingenuously suggest that they are not sufficiently common to engage with such things. You don’t get a medal for a) not knowing basic slang terms or b) being too lazy to Google things.

On the subject bars in gardens, I suggest people simply mind their own miserable business. I would also remind you that a noisy party is just as annoying without a bar in the garden.

I also wonder where on earth people are looking to be ‘sick’ of seeing bars in gardens. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.

Er - no. I'm in a blue collar occupation where random breathalysing/urine testing is the norm, with infringement resulting in dismissal or even imprisonment. I've never tried drugs in my life, and I view those who apparently cannot enjoy themselves without being completely legless with a degree of pity.

Not half as much pity as I reserve for their poor, unfortunate children/neighbours/fellow passengers though who have to tolerate them for longer than I do.

MintJulia · 13/07/2022 02:31

They're not my thing but then again, I don't spend my time peering into other people's gardens. 😀

We have a boring table and chairs outside the french windows. No bar, just three large trays for bottles, glasses and nibbles.

And there's my sun lounger for the occasional half hour snooze. I'm not going anywhere near an airport this summer. I'm easily pleased.

PinkSyCo · 13/07/2022 02:57

Unless the owners of these bars get drunk and have singsongs in their gardens keeping you awake every night of the week, I think it’s a very strange thing for you to be fed up about and I just feel sorry for you that such unimportant things affect you so much.

ohgawdnowivedoneit · 13/07/2022 03:12

How can you be fed up of seeing them?

Do you go into strangers gardens?

I haven't seen any!

k1233 · 13/07/2022 03:31

Maybe they use them as an at home coffee bar. Would be lovely for morning and afternoon teas...

SpiritRidingFree · 13/07/2022 03:32

We have an outdoor kitchen/bar, with a plumbed in sink and and countertops for the bar/serving food. Loads of fun, we love to host family and friends. Couldn’t care less if anyone calls me chav!
Let’s see your back garden OP.

Edwardoo · 13/07/2022 03:50

It is tacky buy people can do what they like with their property.

Zoeslatesttrope · 12/07/2022 23:00

Trying in vain to imagine what would be a "classy" thing to have in the garden?

Shrubs, trees,flowers,grass

Aussiegirl123456 · 13/07/2022 04:02

Mybumlooksbig · 12/07/2022 22:31

I am a total snob, sorry.
I have v fun and wild parties without a bar.
Scrolled through Drainbook earlier and there seemed to be ALOT of people showing their home bars off , maybe I'm bitter because I'm sat drinking my white wine on the sofa.....

ALOT isn’t a word. It’s a lot. Just while we’re all being judgemental I thought I’d join in.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 13/07/2022 04:05

well at least in their back garden and many built them in lockdown. Near where I live around the corner is 3 houses and they are always out the front with high stools up against front garden wall as if in a holiday bar drinking and all have small children, not really a great example and this is day time and they must have no shame at all. They really are bunch of chavs. Back garden bar would be fun and privacy of your garden, once there is not also a hot tub bubbling loud also.

RustyShackleford3 · 13/07/2022 04:58

I can't see what my neighbours have in their garden, unless it's out the front.

Now I'm worried that they all have bars in their back garden and I don't know about it because they never invite me over for a drink 😟

marblemad · 13/07/2022 05:02

You are being unreasonable. My parents have one due to my dad having autism and diabetes and feeling uncomfortable out, they invite small numbers round to help my dad achieve normality in a comfortable setting. Your post is both narrow minded and ableist.

marblemad · 13/07/2022 05:05

Also they are both in well earning jobs, education and law and yes have a hot tub for other ongoing health issues. Your post is assumptive and offensive you should be banned from this site.

SpartacusNotEsther · 13/07/2022 05:11

The easy solution to this pressing problem is to stop looking in other people's gardens.

Sorted!
