A few of my neighbours have them. Both next door neighbours have them and also hot tubs. The summer is awful because the noise ,constantly pissed up screaming and splashing about in the hot tubs. Absolutely hate it.

Chav stands for council housed and violent.

No it doesn't.

Chav comes from the roma word for teenager . Chavvi.

Roselilly36 · 13/07/2022 05:31

YABU not something I would have, but if others want one and enjoy it why not.

Trying in vain to imagine what would be a "classy" thing to have in the garden?

The Queen?

BeautifulWar · 13/07/2022 05:48

Always amusing to see the people on Mumsnet who think they are a cut above when it comes to social class unwittingly revealing themselves to be ill-mannered, spiteful and thick.

Yep. Who knew there were so many Mrs Buckets? So superior yet write 'fed up of' and 'alot'. 🙄

I am a total snob, sorry.
I have v fun and wild parties without a bar.
Scrolled through Drainbook earlier and there seemed to be ALOT of people showing their home bars off , maybe I'm bitter because I'm sat drinking my white wine on the sofa.....

Anyone who says "..I'm sat drinking wine ....." has no right no be a snob.

70kid · 13/07/2022 05:55

Oh and I only have one immediate neighbour as I’m a end house
But my neighbour also has a hot tub so no worries about annoying each other

kateandme · 13/07/2022 06:09

The instagrammers have them.except they are like chalets or second houses in the garden instead of sheds!i don't no whether it stemmed from there are made worse by it.
I first saw it years ago on come dine with me.

Oblomov22 · 13/07/2022 06:16

I'd like to be invited to one of their parties!

Bittersweetmammaries · 13/07/2022 06:25

I’d love a hermitage complete with a hermit.

fUNNYfACE36 · 13/07/2022 03:51

Shrubs, trees,flowers,grass

So long as they're real, of course.

Rosessmelllike · 13/07/2022 06:29

I don't think they're tacky. I am worried about high noise and disturbance and booze parties most of the year if their mates and family come round all the time for a keg. Family use or the odd social wouldn't be so bad.

OhTheLeetleHandsAndFeetle · 13/07/2022 06:31

MichelleScarn · 12/07/2022 22:28

How does it affect you what other people do in their own garden?
Oh are you NIMBY?

This is a remarkably stupid comment. Of course people are affected by what goes on in the gardens of others - MN is usually full of threads of people complaining about their neighbours being noisy in their gardens. Sound travels.

Knock yourself out, but be aware that your neighbours could feel really anxious and stressed and upset by all this noisily 'being fucked in the arse' (are you always this charming and good at punching holes in stereotypes?) ''partaaaaaaaying'' (I'm imagining that being said in a loud and moronic voice) year round

ReneBumsWombats · 13/07/2022 06:38

It's pretty clear they know the stereotype...

Chav stands for council housed and violent. Used to be used to describe Vikki Pollard type people but I see it more commonly used to mean "common" and/or working class. I don't know what context OP was using it in though.

Council house and violent? I’m not sure where you’ve got that from 😆.

justfiveminutes · 13/07/2022 06:42

I wouldn't have one because I don't see the point of them really. They take up space and, like anything outside, need maintenance that I'm too lazy to do.

Do people keep them stocked with glassware and so on, in all weathers, or just bring stuff out when they're having a party? Why not just serve stuff straight from the kitchen and take it outside then?

I imagine they're a bit of an eyesore after a few years of weathering.

I'd be nervous if my neighbour got one as they do suggest lots of parties.

I daresay the trend will pass soon anyway.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 13/07/2022 06:47

Ah but @70kid do you go to Skegness for your holidays and have a crushed velvet sofa 😉

Joke btw, I love a day out in skeggy during the cooler months before or after summer-lovely beach there and at mablethorpe.

Mumofsend · 13/07/2022 06:47

The only person I know with one has frequent loud parties. I'd hate to be their neighbour and it would put me off buying a house with one in the garden next door

speakout · 13/07/2022 06:49

I have never seen anyone with a bar in the garden= or a hot tub come to that.
We are a very staid bunch around here, sometimes I can here hear radio three faintly or the cricket scores, but that's about it!

Lemons1571 · 13/07/2022 06:51

Not much point in the uk unless it’s a proper insulated building useable in rubbish weather. Who wants a structure in their garden that they can only use for a few weeks a year.

NCHammer2022 · 13/07/2022 06:51

I don’t care if they look chavvy or whatever. I do care that they’re usually a sign that those neighbours are going to be a noisy pain in the arse. I wouldn’t move next door to a pub beer garden, I’d prefer my neighbours don’t set up their own either.

balalake · 13/07/2022 06:54

This is Britain. We don't usually do tasteful. Not just in personal appearance, remember pebble dash for example?

70billionthnamechange · 13/07/2022 06:56

God there's some right miseries around here at the min!!!
