This is the BEST described chav I have ever read🤣🤣

It’s the most classist description I’ve read for a while …

Changechangychange · 12/07/2022 23:09

EatMyHammer · 12/07/2022 22:30

Chav stands for council housed and violent. Used to be used to describe Vikki Pollard type people but I see it more commonly used to mean "common" and/or working class. I don't know what context OP was using it in though.

It doesn’t stand for that at all - that’s a retrospective justification for using the word.

“Chav” is a Romany word for “boy”. It’s a racist slur against Travellers basically - you are saying the people you are calling “chavvy” are tacky like Travellers, which is insulting all round.

StoneofDestiny · 12/07/2022 23:10

Can't think of a single use for them that isn't provided by having chilled alcohol served in the garden straight from your fridge or ice bucket. Do they come with a bar tender?

Seems naff to me....but the worst fear would be it meant your neighbours were going to set up a pub in their garden.

farmerboy · 12/07/2022 23:10

I just think those stools look very uncomfortable and after a few drinks I'd fall off.

crosbystillsandmash · 12/07/2022 23:12

@StarDolphins

So many emojis, I can barely read your post.
I think you're telling me to lighten up? I'm guessing all the laughing is your way of showing Mumsnet that you find classist, ignorant shit a whole lot funnier than me.
Well done you!!

StarDolphins · 12/07/2022 23:16

@crosbystillsandmash correct yes, I’m telling you to lighten up! We’ll done you! I’ve left emojis out so as to not confuse you!

StarDolphins · 12/07/2022 23:16

*well

FreezyFreezy · 12/07/2022 23:21

People should let others do what they want in their own gardens (so long as it's legal, obvs) and stop complaining.

We don't have a bar (since we don't drink) but we do have a bench & table and a summerhouse in our garden. Many on here would turn their noses up but 🤷live & let live.

darisdet · 12/07/2022 23:23

I know someone with a garden bar, but more basic than that one. Couple of pumps for real ale type stuff. It's their pride and joy.

The one in your picture looks like it would be fine in summer but doesn't look well protected against the elements, and damp, for over winter and the colder months.

I'm indifferent to them in gardens, personally.

aletterfromseneca · 12/07/2022 22:29

Don’t even know anyone with a garden large enough for one

I know someone with quite a small garden but they have custom-built a bar/ outdoor kitchen and outdoor eating space and it is actually really cool.

limitededitionbarbie · 12/07/2022 23:23

I have a garden room/with a bar and a hot tub in it. Can you imagine.

Tacky tacky tacky.

It adds value to our house though as it has full electric, sky etc. we've used it a lot:. Once the hot tub ie packed away it's a bigger bar with seating.

We have sone loads in there from hot tub parties to winter films etc etc

I work from home and I sometimes work from the bar so when it's too hot I can dip in the hot tub when it's set to cool.

Do not care if people think it's tacky.

darisdet · 12/07/2022 23:25

Should have read the thread first! Though I suspect it will be gone by morning...

crosbystillsandmash · 12/07/2022 23:34

@StarDolphins don't worry I'm not confused.
You knock yourself out with your emojis. Although I would suspect some folk may regard overusing them as 'chavy' as having a garden bar......

Doesn't sound at all tacky, sounds lovely, especially during a heatwave!

DuckBilledPlattyJoobs · 12/07/2022 23:39

Don’t look then 🤷🏻‍♀️

StrawberrySquash · 12/07/2022 23:39

Quite. Everyone knows domestic bars belong in the corner of the dining room. Honestly!

Wafflesnsniffles · 12/07/2022 23:41

"How does it bother you?" and all similar comments on this thread.
Feel free to pop round to stay over at mine when my neighbours are having a party in theirs. Which often carry on until 2-4am in the morning. Have fun trying to sleep (you can have my room all to yourself - Ill go away for the weekend) with up to 20 people 12 metres from the bedroom window drinking, laughing loudly, yelling, banging the table etc.

Its lots of fun. Not. Especially if their kids are "sleeping" in a tent - ie running about shrieking in the garden until gone midnight and then giggling and yelling at 6:30am the following morning. So much fun and not at all a bother.

StarDolphins · 12/07/2022 23:41

@crosbystillsandmash permission granted by you means a lot!

I’m happy to be called chavvy too. I’m neither uptight or easily offended by what other peoples opinions are on a forum, if you get my drift🤪

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 12/07/2022 23:42

Very Non-U, to coin an out of date phrase.
There was a fashion in the 70s for bars in living rooms too. That, thank God, has passed, and bars in gardens will too.

RedDiamond · 12/07/2022 23:48

Who is Mrs Hinch?

Anyway... Can one not enjoy ones own space without the classness neighbours complaining?

loldawg · 12/07/2022 23:49

Imagine thinking you have a say in what people do on their property

AdobeWanKenobi · 12/07/2022 23:50

Come on then OP, let’s see a photo of your garden then. Only fair isn’t it?

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 12/07/2022 23:53

Nasty sneery thread.
We don't have a bar in our garden (it's actually an ancient woodland nature reserve with some more formal rose garden and productive kichen areas) but I'd never judge someone who does.

PickAChew · 12/07/2022 23:54

Just don't be so nosey?
